Photographs of Perennial beds with Lilies. Please.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

This bed has a lot of lilies, daylilies, Iris, Columbine and Heurchera. The Heuchera that is blooming is Swirling Fantasy.

Wow!! Thanks you`all for these inspiring pictures. I will enjoy this post time and time again. I also will try daylilys and lilys. Maybe the rabbits won`t find the lillies in my daylily bed!! Ha. Thanks again. Lesley

menkids,
Beautiful gardens! Make sure to post when it's all blooming. Would love to see it in bloom.

Galanthophile,
Wow! Beautiful! The Lilium Montana photo is just beautiful! I thought it was Tom Pouce. Are the little pink and white flowers the astrantia? Never heard of it, but looks absolutely lovely with the lilies. Does it bloom long? What are the white jagged looking flowers in the 3rd picture on the lower right corner? Stunning photos!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

The Lollipop lilies are just starting in this bed. They seem to multipy faster than any other lily I have. With them are blue delphinium, Swirling Fantasy Heurchera which has pink blooms and some columbines that are past their best. Also Iris which are done blooming for the year. Later in the summer, cleome blooms in this area. It is an annual, but reseeds freely each year. This year I am going to try a few double cosmos in here too for later season color. The taller lily is an orientpet which will bloom later. American Spirit I think or another from that series. In front of the heurchera are purple alysum. There are a few daylilies mixed into this bed too. Missouri Memories is under the orientpet.

Susan, thanks for the valerian pic! I just stashed a valerian behind my lilium 'Black Beauty' because I didn't know where else to put it, so it's very encouraging to know someone has done that on purpose.

Linden, VA(Zone 6a)

Susan, that profusion of coral bells echoing the lilies' pink is wooooonderful!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Susan, love the heuchera with Lollipop! Lovely bed and great textural and color contrasts.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Thanks! I think the Swirling Fantasy heuchera have the best blooms of any of mine and they last a long time.

A bit late to the thread.....here is the early picture of lilies in leaf only. In a few more weeks the blooms will start

I finally get to contirbute. My new lilies are blooming! YES! It's just the beginning of them, but fun, none the less! Even though I think they sent me some of the wrong ones. But here's one shot.

Another one. Hard to get a good picture of this dark red one. And please ignore the weeds. ;o) Hard to keep up when working full time.

What are the pretty purple flowers by the pink lilies in the first shot? Nice pics ~

Linden, VA(Zone 6a)

You have an appealing mix of colors and textures there, Sherrygirl.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I love the bright pink and purple together too. Even if it wasn't the lily you were expecting, it came out beautiful!

Moby,
Thank you! The purple plant is called 'Self Heal'. I planted it last June. From what I am reading, it is a very vigorous grower. I hope it doesn't become a problem. I just liked it when I saw it, so I bought it and stuck it in the garden. It looks lovely and I hope it doesn't try to take over and crowd things out. I'll have to wait and see. I'm hoping it may be something to use in trading here at DG. I haven't done much of that yet since I joined, but think it would be fun. ;o)

mickgene,
Thank you so much! I try so hard. LOL

lincolnitess,
Well, actually the pinkish/rose lilies ARE the ones I ordered and placed there. It's the orange one further back in the photo that I didn't order. But thank you!
Sherry

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Sherry, I like that little bit of orange in there. Here are some pink lilies that were mislabled, but they probably look better where they are than the ones I thought I planted.

I have some Scherazade lilies planted on either side of the Jackmanii clemetis that will bloom later. I hope they don't look too bad with the purple. It was just the only place I could find to plant them. The clemetis will have a lot less blooms by then, but I think usually still has some.

Hi - been following this thread, but just haven't had many blooms until now. I've got a couple of pics of combinations I really like - First, lily with Coreopsis -

And here are some pinks with adjuga and the blue wild flower - as you can see, most of them haven't opened yet - when they do, should be lovely - Dax

Pretty! Dax, I like how your aguga drapes over that pointed rock.

Hi, Susan - thanks! Would you happen to know the name of the blue wild flower behind the lily? As a newbie, I just put in a bunch of seeds last year, and don't know what that is - but I sure like it. Of all the ones I put in, only a couple survived, so it must be very hardy - Dax

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I can't see it real well. Wonder if it is a flax of some time. Check out this photo.

I think those may be cornflowers (batchelor's buttons).

Thanks loads for the info - I'm on my way to check it out - I'd like to get some more - Dax

Some lilies are starting to bloom in the mix!

I tried planting lilies to intermingle with other perennials as suggested by others on this tread early in May. I think some are successful, others (which I didn't show) need moving. When do I move lilies? And what about the lily stubs that the rabbits didn't eat. Is there hope for next year if I just leave them as is in their sad state? They look like miniature telephone poles. Or should I pull them up now? Patti

You can move the lilies when they're done blooming. You can also move the ones the bunnies ate. It has happened to me when I didn't put done Blood Meal in springtime: that keeps the bunnies away. As near as I can figure the bulb didn't use all of it's energy to make a flower so still can bloom next year: mine did.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Patti, lilies are often surprisingly resiliant. These 'Muscadet' were in full bloom last year when a storm took down a large tree that squashed this whole garden flat. They're short this year, but I don't really mind as I'm not having to stake them.

The same area I posted on June 13. Now the L.henryi, OTs, and Orientals are in bloom.

While I've enjoyed this group of pink Orientals, they've now been disposed of because the last 2 blooms to open showed symtoms of mosaic virus. Still enjoying the blooms inside though.

I don't have anything to post because my lilies are mainly in a cutting garden (for now) but I see I'll have to find nice companions for them out in the garden. I am learning a lot from all your pics, so thanks for posting them!

gem-- I especially love your choice of lilies and combination plantings. And dax, I love your pink lily with the ajuga--so elegant! I have that ajuga and now just have to order some nice lilies to keep it company!

Prophetstown, IL(Zone 5a)

My small lily collection is interspersed in the rose garden along with peonies, delphiniums, foxglove, artemesia and rue....the orientals are coming on now but this heat has made them nearly ephemeral.

*wow, that's quite a large shadow I cast, lol*

t, I think it will serve you well getting to know some of the lily varieties in your cutting garden, as now you'll know what to expect from them when working those varieties into combinations. I love Orientals with tall phlox and/or hydrangeas or anything "fluffy"- such a romantic contrast to my eye. And they work so beautifully in more architectual designs, with grasses, sedums, and shrubs too. Lilies are so versatile and fit so many "needs" in the garden, that's what has fed my addiction.

Catherine, I love the cottage charm of your gardens. Just lovely!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I have a mess of hydrangeas, but none planted with lilies. I'll fix that in the fall. I have had poor luck with phlox but I have one that may change my opinion and I will certainly plant some orientals with it ( I have a large stand of sedum 'autumn joy' in the same area). Thanks for the ideas. Gemini-sage, when you stake them what do you use for ties? I have some of that Velcro tape that I have been using on other thing which seems to work well. But I haven't staked any lilies before. And I love your pale orange, yellow and purple clematis combo. Patti

Prophetstown, IL(Zone 5a)

thanks gemini sage for the high compliment - I dream of gardens like yours in a *warmer* zone

And I'm *stealing* ideas from all the other lovely gardens posted here

This morning 'Scheherezade' was looking over the garden, like a queen among her subjects!

The white one could/might be Casablanca.

Santa Barbara, CA(Zone 10a)

I tend to stick them in randomly where they will fit in my border, however, I find that they are particularly appealing planted inside a rose bush as the bushes hold the stems up nice and high in my AM sun only border.
