Which cukes are you growing this summer?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Wel, Ridh - it looks like your cukes survived the storms better than you thought, eh?

Congrats! I know you were freakin'!

tmm99: I have grown Sweet Success for more years than I can count until this year. Last year I grew 1 EB of Sweet Success and 1 EB of All-Season Burpless. This year no Sweet Success and 2 EB's of All-Season Burpless. Slightly smaller fruit on a slightly smaller vine (still large) and a much sweeter taste I prefer to the Sweet Success. I also think it out-yields Sweet Success and I love the almost non-existent seed cavity even when picked large (10").

Sequee: Thanks and you are right, I was really upset on that day with the 40 mph winds from the SE which tore the vines to pieces. They still don't look very nice but are certainly producing.

Bottom line!!! And good for you! I know I'm green with envy!

Sunnyvale, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks Rich :-)
I think I will do half Sweet Success and half All-Season Burpless. Can you tell me where you got the seeds from? Could it be a different thing if I picked up seedlings from a nursery just marked All-Season Burpless? (I did see the seedlings at a local nursery this year...)

I bought the seeds from Park which is the only place I believe they are available. I would be very surprised to see them at a nursery as the seeds are fairly expensive and most growers stick to the less expensive varieties like plain generic burpless..

Got it. Thanks Rich. I will probably get the seeds at Park's also just to be sure that I got the correct seeds. (There is nothing like planting something and realizing that it is something else when the fruit is ready!)

Harvested my first Holland variety cuke last week and another today (a little over 12 oz which seems like a nice size). They are at least a week ahead of my marketmores. I have both in an Earth Box growing up a trellis.

I've finally got some lemon cukes, but haven't had a chance to taste them yet.

She looks like a potato!!! I hope you like it - can't wait to hear your opinion!

Up to Holland #3 (14 1/4 oz and about 12" long...see the pic) and as I get more patient the cukes are bigger. I'm as proud as a new poppa.

VERY nice - I'm envious! (And, I must say, that is one macho ruler ya got there!)

Brookline, MA(Zone 6a)

I do not define my manliness by my ruler :)

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Hahahahahahaha! Dang good thing! (Besides, your cuke is manly enough!)

I am having the worst time with my cukes - as always! I don't know what my problem is, but I've yet to have a good producer. I keep plugging away, though - and living vicariously through other peoples photos - Woe is me!

Here's my latest cukes! Sorry....there's maters mixed up in there....

Noobie, everything looks so beautiful! How does it taste?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

You need NEVER apologize for tomatoes! Lookin' good, girlie!

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

Haven't tasted the latest cukes...the others were great...used them in salads and made a cucumber salad. The maters are sweet and delicious!!!! Going to definitely have to can some...and I've still got big maters that are nice and green and should be getting red very soon!!!! I'm estimating that there's at LEAST another 100-150 cherry maters and about 60 or so of the big beef and beefsteak and about 40 or more of the banana leg and tomatillos!!!!

God has really blessed my garden this year! I've got lots of ears of corn just growing and some eggplant and my red cabbage is lookin great too! Watermelon is just vining with flowers but no melons yet....Pumpkins are growing too, but no flowers yet....

It's my first year growing cukes successfully so I really don't know any different. They do taste the way cukes should :-)
The two tear shaped ones are the only ones shaped like that. The rest have been "normal" looking. The seed package says seedless but I found that ,if left on the vine too long, they do develope some mature seeds. Go figure.

Well, here's contribution to the thread...

Hmmm - the computer went into the TZ for a moment there. Let's try again!
