Shakespeare's sword
great photos of a whirlwind trip. Brings back lots of memories of when I did a similar trip, hitting mostly the same places. The photos of Bath, look unchanged in the 20 years since I've been there. Great history.
Thanks for posting! I feel like I've just been to the UK for free, lol.
We're saving up for a trip to the UK for later this year or early next, so it's good to see these pics. I'm especially intrigued by castles, ruins and battlefields (ie Culloden) and can barely wait to get over there. The shot of the misty landscape is eerily beautiful.
You know, it's all Jean Plaidy's fault! Really! I've read every one of her books (plus all those under different pen names) and there started my interest in England and Scotland. From there, I got into genealogy and was pleased as punch when I dug up a Scottish ancestor, plus many English ancestors. So in addition to visiting those sites mentioned above, I'll be hanging about in a few cemeteries. I love old cemeteries and can't wait to see what they have over there.
Erynne
Great job Pam, that was a lot of work. Thanks for letting us share his trip. The pics are wonderful.
Erynne for some reason I too feel like I've been there. ;) My DS would give his eye teeth to hide in your suitcase. He said if he ever gets the chance to go again he'd want to stay at least a week per location. He'd take a 2 day tour at each but would want the rest of the week to do his own exploring and savour it a bit more. We saw a couple of specials on the Discovery channel on Edinburgh while he was gone and the beauty of the Royal Mile and the Castle took my breath away. I think it did the same for DS as he took fewer pictures there. I think he wanted to remember it more in his memory.
On one side his G whatever Grandparents came from the Isle of Barra 250 years ago. More recent relatives came from the lowlands in the last 100 years. DS said the younger Scots are very Nationalistic and told them to go home. We said he should have said he was ..... it just took him awhile to get back there. ;) I wish his Great Grandfather could have lived to see these pics.....he served in World War I and then left Scotland to come to Canada. He never returned.
echoes it certainly was a learning experience. ;)
