They are beautiful no matter what their names are. I'm so happy that we are on the verge of iris season. I walk out just to smell Aaron's Rod every day.

Arbuckle, CA(Zone 9a)

Very nice. I really like the first one.

I don't have any blooms yet, but can I join in too? Here's the foliage of Tall Bearded Iris 'Zebra Blush'.

Please join! By all means.

Cordoba is blooming today but much too shabby from the rain for a photo.
Here are some photos from sunnier days. This one is an enthusiastic grower for sure.

Trunnels - - those irises (and photos) are lovely! Both are very striking! :-)

Laura,
That's a nice photo of the foilage on the Zebra Iris. You know - - I have that one too, but it has never, ever bloomed for me. ;-( I've had it for 4 years now. I've grown it in a pot, in the ground, in the pond, and now it's back in a pot again. How do you grow yours? Does it readily bloom for you?

Doss, my CORDOBA is just about to bloom. :-) Possibly in another few days or so. I just love the rich, deep color on it. I can hardly wait. it's a good grower and dependable bloomer for me too. You must send that rain to my house. I hardly remember what a good rain looks like. ;-0

Margie~

This is the 2nd year for Zebra Blush. The first year it didn't bloom. Hopefully this year. I love the foliage on it. I grow it in a raised bed with the majority of my irises.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Dear Margie, I'm blowing as hard as I can. Evidently the rain is stuck here.

Western Tradition is blooming too although it rained hard last night, I'll see if I can get some photos this morning. It's actually quite hard to photograph.

Circus Dancer is really lovely.

I have a variegated iris but it isn't as lovely as the one Trunnels posted but they do bloom.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Here's Cordoba. The sun came out today!

Yep................ that's lovely Cordoba!! Doss - - you should make a cross on that one!!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Margie, there's not much blooming right now. It may stay in bloom long enough. It's covered with buds. What kinds of iris would you cross it with?

Candy Apple Classic is blooming and Spring Jade - I'll take another photo of that today. My last one didn't come out.
Coral Point
Cast of Characters
Lady Friend
Waiting for October which is a rebloomer
Candy Apple Classic
Aaron's Rod - still blooming.
Skookumchuck
There will be more soon though. What direction would you go?

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I like "Fancy Woman", Margie - that's a great one

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Thanks Tazzy, It's quite an interesting choice. Might as well have fun with it.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Maybe get neon Brown or red orange?
HMMMM ?

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

That would be really fun, wouldn't it? Perhaps Candy Apple Classic would do that better since it already has the metallic purple center down it's falls?

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Here's Spring Jade. I wish that I had more of what's going on in this iris. It's really beautiful but subtle.

Doss
just looked up parentage of Lady Friend .
Guess what? it has yellow in its gene pool all the way back
Lady Friend ( Indian territory x country gentleman )

Indian Territory red brown (involving ,Malaysia , Show Time,Pondarosa.New Moon)

Country Gentleman = ruffled medium yellow with white flush ( Involving, Nob Hill, May Melody , Rainbow Gold , west Coast) now off to see the sires of Cordoba

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

they are all so beautiful... great pictures..

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

Doss, Tazzy's idea is a good one. That cross may even produce a nice rich red!

Also - - on a different bloom you could use 'Spring Jade' or 'Waiting for October' - - to get some reblooming seedlings.

I'd use all 3 irises on different Cordoba blooms/iris flowers!!! Wow!!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Shall do my best! I'll get out my wires so nobody goes around deadheading. :-)

Thank you both for all of your ideas.

This is Candy Apple Classic. Huge flower and tall. Award of Merit winner 2002. And deservedly so.

This is Witching. Very similar to Spring Jade. I think that of the two I'd chose Spring Jade.

The beginning of the season is here!

Gorgeous! I can't wait for our bloom season here! *Sigh*

Laura

Arbuckle, CA(Zone 9a)

Candy Apple Classic and Lip Service are stunning!

I have been looking forward to this one blooming, and I'm glad it came early. It's not quite all the way open, but I had to get a pic before the rain starts again.

Rock Star

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

love" Rock Star" and it was hybridized
right here In Oklahoma. Paul black and Hooker Nicolas were miracle workers
to make such beautiful iris, in a state that all the elements try to kill them , No rain to much rain 80 one day freezing next .
Summers in low hundreds and high humidity
only the strong survive !

Soquel, CA(Zone 9a)

witching, candy apple, apricot drops yum!!! keep em coming!!! : )

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

In the same vein, here's 'Candy Rock'. An IB

Thumbnail by doss
Arbuckle, CA(Zone 9a)

doss, another beauty!

tazzy, thanks for the interesting info about 'Rock Star' I'm going to pay attention to what's blooming for you, since they must be hardy.

Sandy

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I just stood near witching while looking at the garden and the fragrance on the wind was heaven. Maybe Witching for fragrance and Spring Jade for size and beauty.

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

There you Dorothie!! Sounds right by me. And Too...............'Spring Jade' is a rebloomer. So, some to many of those seedlings may ending up being rebloomers as well.

~ Margie

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

You never know do you? I have almost 20 of your seedlings right now Margie that will be put out in a month or so.
