caterpillars...good or bad????

i just found a caterpillar in one of my potted plants on the deck....i know they will turn into pretty butterflies but i luv my plants.....what to do....will they eat much?...should i let them be or not?.....they are very dark with little markings....maybe they are baby moths....lol...i dont know....thanks for the input

If it bothers you get rid of it. If you knew what kind it was you could relocate it to an area where it will have something else to eat - but it's hard to make a guess if you don't know what kind it is. What kind of plant is it on?

the caterpillar was in my pot with my chocolate soldier plant....it was not a biggun but it was still a caterpillar and i have seen where something has been eating at my pepperomia plants also....nice curved section of leaf is missing....i havent seen any slugs so i think it is just the caterpillars......thanks for the input

I'm not poking fun, but kind of reminds me of a lady who grew a butterfly garden, & was wondering how to stop the catterpillars from eating the plants.

This is where one must continue their education of the butterfly/moth world to be able to identify the lavarl state
of true butterflies/silk moths vs armyworms, ear worm budworm etc.
