Thanks! (amaryllis) :-)
Here we ARE!!!
Hey, you guys, here's the thing I try to tell myself about DH (25 years). He makes his own lunch for work, bless his heart, gives me more computer time, and EVERY morning he leaves his butter knife, and crumbs on the cupboard. Without fail. Some mornings it just makes me nuts, but then I read a post somewhere from someone I don't remember who, she had lost her DH and wished she could deal with his faults again. So now I just smile, when I look at them, because he is 9 years older than me, with a few health problems, and the chances are good that the day will come when I wish I could see those crumbs again............Reflection for the day. Legit
Legit,
That is sad and so true. I read somewhere once that you should treat everyday as if it's your last and everyone as if it will be the last time you see them. I too often forget to do that.
Kelly
Hello all,
I'm Sue, married to Ted, and am 49 (at least for a few more weeks) and I am one of those women who has a very wonderful husband who not only tolerates my gardening obsession, but actually encourages me in it. He cooks my breakfast too!
I've been married for 17 years (2nd marriage for both). I have 1 daughter, 2 step daughters, and 1 stepson. Between us we have 12 grandkids ranging from 10 years to 4 months.
Ted and I are owned by 3 horses and 5 barn cats.
My gardening interests are true lilies, daylilies, and iris. Then you must add a pinch of annuals and a handful of perennials and you're off to a decent start. I also have around 28 varieties of hosta in a very small shade garden. This garden really struggles to survive since it is located adjacent to 3 fair sized maple trees and they want to hog the water and nutrients!
I'm working on my dry stream bed right now as well as putting in new beds for my ever increasing lilies.
Well, that's me in a nutshell.
HI Sue (lilyfan)....welcome to the forum. I *know* you'll enjoy it. Your garden sounds delightful and I hope we get a chance to see that dry stream when you get it finished.
~julie~
Sue,
Nice to meet ya. Welcome,,,,just jump right in,,,everyone is so nice and kind and helpful, and Tons of fun, add a little goofy in the mix also LOL. I'm sure you'll feel right at home in no time.
And ditto what julie said,,and,,we LOVE to c pics.
Kelly
Oh, I agree w/julie....the nicest husband remark I've heard, too!
Sounds as though you're *both* truly blessed, kbaumle!!
I *love* how some of you folks say you're 'owned by' your pets, lol!
My DH doesn't often leave the seat 'up'...although my boys tend to do that....but I was thinking about that once......(Sometimes my mind will take to 'wandering' ;).......where 'is it written' that they have to put it down?
Maybe (just maybe, lol!) *we're* supposed to put it back *up*?!
Things that make you go 'hmmmmm' !
LOL good point, Nan!
You all are such a hoot!!
Legit - Your wisdom regarding the crumbs, etc. is great! I have to remind myself, at times, that one of these days I may miss those things. Have always told my husband that, if he goes before I do, I'm not interested in finding another because I could never do any better than I have now.....and wouldn't want to try!
IowaNovice - Since I'm not trying the crepe myrtle until next winter, it will be a while before I post results. Since our garage is separate from the house, I'll probably wrap the pot & shrub in some type of insulation. The guy at the nursery thought I should have no problem with it. Kind of kicking myself for not trying to stuff one in our vehicle while we were there.
Judy
Because the lid is always supposed to be closed, and following is a good reason...
I was in a hurry getting ready to leave to be on a jobsite and already running late (which doesn't matter too much since I'm the boss! ;-).) Anyway...I had just grabbed my only clean pair of socks, ran into the bathroom to dress, tossed my socks onto the toilet seat lid............
You guessed it...the lid was up and the toilet hadn't been flushed!
Jody
Jody ~ ROFLOL!!!!! Judy
Jody, LOL that's a good point, too! Anybody else 'fallen in' in the middle of the night?
Jody, OMG,,,,roflol,,,sorry, but hearing it IS funny
Kelly
Jody....been there....done that...resented the fact it happened...laughed about it years later! LOL
Middle of the NIGHT!!! WHY do you think I made mention of it to begin with! LOL There's *nothing* worse than stumbling to the bathroom in the dark, finding the cold thing and SITTING in it...further than you'd expected to! (Ohhhhh yeah! Another BTDT moment...to say the least!)

Hi, I'm Diann, 49, married 24 years same guy, no human kids, 3 furry cat-kids. Live near Lisbon Iowa. Garden mostly with perennials, (hosta, poppy, daylily, iris, and peony) and a few other things thrown in for balance. Use to have quarter horses, but winter and I do not agree anymore so the horses went off to live with a vet friend. Have a huge old house that we've been "renovating" for the past 12 -13 years.. Will have it done in time to move into a nursing home. :)
Met Wanda'sflowers from Dave's and if you are anywhere in Iowa you really need to see her wonderful garden. She's a good person with a good heart.
Mostly lurk in here...
Diann
Diann...jump in any time! Nice to meet you...and WELCOME to the forum!
~Julie~
Welcome Diann ~ Know what you mean about the house. We started in '99 and thought it would maybe take three years. Well.....believe it or not, we're still at it! We've told our kids to find the house they love and stay there the rest of their lives!! At least take on these renovation projects when they're young. Of course it slows us down when we are helping them with their "projects", but we're glad we can. Judy
Hi Diann,
Nice ta meet ya,,,all you'll find while lurking around here are enablers, obsessive gardeners and addictions to all kinds of plants,,,LOL AND a Great group of very friendly, gracious, generous, nice, funny people. Welcome.
Would u like me 2 add u 2 our map of members?
Kelly
I once had to fish a baby's pacifier out of my SIL's toilet once, and it hadn't been flushed. That was the WORST. I threw it away.
YUCK!!! I'd have found a new one even if I to break into a store in the middle of the night...
F L U S H!!! LOL
~julie~
Hi to all; have enjoyed reading but not too much time to post. Llilyfan, hope to see you at the MG Herbaceous Perennials coming up at Iowa State.
I am behind on everything; still have bulbs to dig and more cleanup in the garden.
Bernie,
Did the "That's Love" glad bulbs work out for you?
Thanks for all the lovely pictures. . . I need to get Picassa and start putting my pics together.
Regards,
a
I got a couple of blooms, but now have a ton of bulbs, some very big. So I am looking forward to next year, I shpuld get lots of flowers.
Thanks,
Bernie
I'm 48 and happily married to a sweetheart for over 20 years. We have no lives of our own any longer with boys, house dogs, indoor cats, pasture pet Arabs, rodents, fish, and and an assortment of reptiles every now and then. I also volunteer a lot and provide care for my Mother In Law whom I love dearly. My life is most probably no different than any one else who has kids at home as well as all the responsibilities that go along with parenting school age children. I originally began gardening because my husband takes great pride in our home and wanted it to look cookie cutter neat as a pin. As I began gardening, I became increasingly aware of the fragile ecosystems around me and the critters dependent upon them for their basic existence. I did an about turn ripping out virtually everything that had been stuck in the ground here and began gardening with native plants in an attempt to restore this property and preserve what remnants might be here. Our landscape began taking on a look that was considerably different than what my husband had envisioned. But, he gave me free rein... and against his better judgment he gave me the chain saw that I had been wanting for Mother's Day a few years ago. On the weekends he cooks and shuttles kids here and there while I go out and work in the woods systematically cutting down one buckthorn after the next and removing plants that don't belong and planting back those that do belong while he tends to the home fires. My husband is one of a kind.
I too have "fallen in". Not one toilet lid or seat in this house is ever put down. I can't count how many times I've had to bounce to drip dry because the last piece of toilet paper was used leaving me with an empty tube ready to scream. I read what Legit wrote about the crumbs, "but then I read a post somewhere from someone I don't remember who, she had lost her DH and wished she could deal with his faults again. So now I just smile, when I look at them, because he is 9 years older than me, with a few health problems, and the chances are good that the day will come when I wish I could see those crumbs again............" and that made more sense to me than anything I've read in a long time. My husband has some health issues that we are dealing with and here's hoping I'm falling in toilets and bouncing to drip dry for many years.
I'd like to meet all of you to be able to put faces to names. Maybe someday a centrally located spot could be picked and a Round Up could be planned?
That can be arranged.....Shall we expect you in Des Moines next May? :)
Hey All,
We could start posting pics like we did over in the Hosta Forum.
Anyone interested ???? If so I'll start a thread
Kelly
Go for it! :-)
You all are going to think I'm nuts but the only current photo I have of me is me in a dumpster. Long story.
Iowa? Sure why not. There's one gal that I know already from Iowa from these forums. She lives on a huge family property and I wonder if you all are any where near her. I'll be up in Michigan over Memorial Day weekend though. We go up there for that holiday every year. What's going on in Iowa in May and when is it?
Here's a link.

Much fun. One of the biggest Round-ups of 2005.
Looking for bigger in 2006.
Bernie
I'm not much on "big" get togethers and not a long distance driver, but I sure would like to get together with some of you if you are in this area. I was tempted to try to arrange something at our local MG arboretum last year, but not sure I have time to organize that alone, anyone have any suggestions?? Legit
Looks as if you all from Iowa had a blast last year!
