Question on Hens & Chicks

Chicago, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi,

I just bought some hens and chicks & I wanted to plant them. Any suggestions about any special soil or compost I should add? Any hints about growing them would be appreciated.

They are not real picky about soil so long as it is well drained. Pretty much treat them like any succulent and let them dry out between waterings. Some people fertilize theirs but I have never added anything but water to mine and they do great!

Good drainage is truly the key. When they flower they are gorgeous, however, dead the head will be, new little ones will pop out under the mother hen, thus the name. These plants originated in Europe. Norma
