White/Cream anyone?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

I think white irises are under appreciated. All of those colors and patterns are pretty exciting, but where would we be without the stunning whites and creams to break it all up?

Here's 'Skating Party'....

I love the clean look of a white iris too!

Florentina is my favorite both for the form and history--bred in the 1500s! I love the thought that maybe Queen Elizabeth I had this in her garden....

Laurie~

'Lovin' Spoonful' is a real cutie...and such a cute name! I think I'd like it just for the name!

flowerfrenzy--I placed an order for a bunch of irises for this fall, long before I knew about you all and Dave's Garden. I ordered several white, as I have always loved white flowers and white iris are just exquisite, AND I wanted some to show up from a distance across my really big yard. One of them is Skating Party, which you have, too. I also have ordered Alpine Song, Bubbly Mood and a couple of others. Now I am really anxious for them to come. Except for this heat and the fact that I don't have their area ready yet.

Laura,

Sounds like you've already started your trade "want list" for next year. ;-)

gardengram~

Yes, white irises can be very impressive, especially when set against all of the other brightly colored ones. You'll have to post pictures next spring! Skating Party was not very impressive in it's maiden bloom...but this was it's 3rd year in my garden, and it was taller, bigger and lovlier than it's ever been!

Laurief~

I'm keeping a running list! LOL! ;0]

Hey, tazzy. Aren't irises just the most beautiful things, no matter what color?

When is your b'day? And it's OK. I'm five days older than dirt.

Tazzy--wow! Nice bucket bouquet! Lots of great colors!

I provided small vases with iris sprigs for a choir banquet this spring. I used 44 colors just for the fun of it & everyone thought they were fake! After all, the master gardeners here keep telling me "Tall Bearded Iris don't do well in Iowa."

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Don't you just love fooling people like that?

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Must be the "official" Master Gardener line here. I keep hearing it. Too much rot & root borers here apparently. What are they all doing wrong/

I applied to be a Master Gardener, but I failed the test. I refuse to use pesticides unless absolutely needed & if something doesn't do well here, I advise throwing it out instead of messing with the soil. I'm NOT going to tell people Tall Beardeds don't grow well here when I have over 200 of them blooming just fine. I'm Too opininated & prefer my own experience over their "book advice". After all, I picked up my first watering can a 3 years old & that gives me 52 years experience growing plants in Iowa. I've had a series of terrific elderly life-time gardening neighbors to teach me starting with my Grandmother.

Do I really need their "label" to know what I'm doing? Ok. Off the soapbox. Angry tirade finished.

Bonus Lite was a trade from a friend a few years ago. I like the yellow "lite' on her shoulders and the bright orange beard peeking out.

OK - I'm trying some white too - my addiction to color not withstanding.

Here's "Diamond Bracelet". Very late blooming.

Can't help it but Nordica's beards just make me happy.

I'm looking at these and thinking how hard the daylily people are struggling to get whites and blues into their flowers. Iris lovers are sure lucky in that realm. I'm grateful. Not that I don't love daylilies, mind you.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Yes, Iris gardeners are lucky with a rainbow at our fingertips. But I love my daylilies too, just at different points in the summer!
