Haha and well;
I do, sort of, still use raised beds.
-
At me tender age I had to change methods somewhat.
What ya see in tha pic (2003) is ground tilled till fluffy. Seed is broad cast, beans & peas in this case. I lightly till them in and use a drag plate to cover.

Furrows or trenchs, give it tha raised bed effect. Makes for ground watering also.
-
If you pull dirt from furrow to furrow level, plant, pull more dirt, rake through and pack down ya have more of a true raised bed; wide row!

Lol, I like ta say, been thar, & shonuf done that.
Its me po ole body & mama nature that makes me look for alternate ways, fer similar results ye see!

Do I need to help them along? Flick, Shake etc?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

beats me, they are so pretty surely the bees are lined up. if anything, get the q-tips ready till someone speaks up...

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

They usually do quite well on thier own. Just be alert they don't wait around for you to admire the blooms. The pods are ready to pick before you know it.
