First asiatic liy bloom ever :)

Whoa! Yours looks very different then mine. Hmmm.... Even with the energy-sucking heat lately, the blooms from the 22nd are still very bright. How tall are yours? Btw, how hot did it get in Albany? 95f up here (broke a record). Strange enough, all of my lilies seem to like the hot weather.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, I don't know what the official temp was, but at one point the thermometer on my van showed 97°F. It felt like it was about 150°F though! My son had a track meet, so we were out in the heat for about 8 hours today.....that was miserable!

I don't know why mine look so different from yours. They are about 2½ - 3ft tall. I'm guessing they will be taller next year......and hopefully prettier! I have another one that is trying to open up. I'll try to get a pic of it as soon as it does.

mgh I noticed your high temps on the weather news - now you know how we feel! Last week it was 95 and now it is raining and 67, and has barely hit 80 all week!

Emily,

Asiatics seem to be unbothered by heat, and trumpets and Orienpets fare well also. It's the Orientals that struggle with it, depending on variety, so I have to be careful about what type of expsure I give them for them to look good. I have found some good ones that don't seem too bothered by it, though, I am jealous of your cool summers

Steve, I think our weather is following the same pattern as yours. Yesterday when I looked it up on the internet it said sunny and hot for most of the week. Today it says thunder storms, rain, and temps in the low 70's. A break from the heat will be very nice. I can't imagine living in TX in the summer! How do you do it? LOL

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

It usually is not too bad until July and August, unless we get an early heat wave like we did last week. The bigger problem for me is when we have a dry spell like last week and it was hot and the wind blew constantly and I got a sinus infection like I have never had before. Didn't even check this site for a week. I finally broke down and went to the doctor and he told me not to let it go so long. Last night I finally slept a full night! I was sooooooo longing to be up north you wouldn't believe it.

Emily, your lilies are soooo beautiful! sure wish mine would hurry up and open! ;-)

Another 'Tropical Dream' finally opened yesterday. It still looks very pale. What could be wrong? I got these in the fall bulb co-op last year.....I'm sure I labeled them right. Maybe they just need something added to the soil? If so, what would that be?

Here is one from the 'Stardust Collection' I ordered from The Lily Garden.

I'm not sure why your lilies are so pale. My lilies are growing in an area that was heavily amended with a lot of compost, peat, potting soil, and perlite added the clay soil. I wonder if mine are just a different strain or something. Have you had any buggycrazy lily bulbs bloom yet?

Yep, my 'First Lady' bulbs are from her and they are putting on quite a show for me. It sounds like you did a lot more to your soil than I did. I amended with potting soil only, but it has a bunch of "stuff" in it. ;-)

Hi emily--

love all your lily pictures...you've had a really good showing of your bulb plantings and it must be really exciting to have so many (beautiful) successes this spring!

I am a first timer too with lily bulbs, but I'm still waiting for bloom (and hoping mine are as fun and pretty as yours!) thanks for posting. :-) t.

Emily, I think I made a mistake when putting my plant markers out. I think the one I have labeled as 'Tropical Dream' is actually 'Desert Song'. I realized this when my 'Endless Love' opened up and the plant marker said 'Desert Song'. Ooooops! I switched the tags now. Now, hopefully, everything is labeled right. LOL

Here is 'Endless Love'

Here's my first oriental lily bloom :) I'm not quite sure of the name. I think it's "late pink" from Buggycrazy. Smells wonderful!
