First asiatic liy bloom ever :)

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

This is my first year with lilies and this large bulb put out two spikes. Not sure what kind of lily it is, but I'm impressed at the color.

Those are very pretty, emily - now plant some bulbs in your garden itself this fall and watch them grow and multiply!!!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Such a nice rich pink. Lovely!

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Very pretty, Emily! You've got the bug I think.

Waxhaw (Charlotte), NC(Zone 7b)

Ahhh, great lilies. They really show well. Very nice.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I have a few in the ground. I was a little late in planting some of them and this one already had buds so I just let it be. I'm afraid my lilies are going to get too much sun as they will get full sun until about 2pm. In the pic, there are 3 sections of lilies and the furthest one is almost all asiatics, the middle one is a mix, and the closest is all orientals. I have a "fellowship" lily that had 6 spikes coming out from a single bulb :)

Wow! Did you get that from Buggycrazy?

Waxhaw (Charlotte), NC(Zone 7b)

Those lilies really look nice and healthy. I bet the fellowship lily is buggycrazy, right ?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I'd sure like to know her secret for producing those monster bulbs.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Yes, they are all from Buggycrazy. The nice thing about living so close to her is that postage for monster bulbs are dirt cheap. I've lost count of how many times I've bought plants/bulbs from her. I got a laugh at the piddly size of the lily bulbs for sale at the local nursery. Hers are huge! I originally potted up all of my lilies individually and many would not fit in a 1 gallon container. Also, her lilies are grown in the same type of soil I have so even better.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Wow, Emily, you have blooms already! I'm sooooo jealous! Mine that are in the gound look like yours that are in the ground though. They all have buds on them.....I can't wait till they bloom! The area I put them in needs more spring color though....way too much green right now. LOL I have some giant calla lilly bulbs I bought from Buggycrazy that I still need to get in the ground. They are starting to sprout in the paper bag in the garage!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Happy Birthday, Emily!

Lucky dog, I bet you'll still have lily blooms on your birthday.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Happy Birthday, Emily!

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Thank you :) Yes, my pink lily is still blooming and two of my muscadet lilies are also blooming.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Zone envy strikes again. I have to wait until June 20th for my Asiatics to start.
Happy Birthday.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

June 20th? In zone 7a?? Wow

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Emily,

Post pics of your Muscadets! That is one of my favorite lilies, but mine aren't close to blooming yet. Happy B-Day!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Steve: All this talk about blooming Muscadets makes me want to get some Thunderbird!

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Managed to sneak outside between downpours. Three spikes from one bulb, but only one is blooming right now.

Editted to say: This is Loreto, not Muscadet. My bad.

Stunning! And to think there was a time when I refused to have orange in my garden. Now I have a plot of orange.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Steve, it was just a poor attempt (I guess) at a joke.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I think this is Coral Sunset.

Just beautiful. Love when they shine as yours seem to.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

So pretty, Emily!!

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Thank you :) Is this "Coral Sunset"? I'm pretty sure it is, but it looks different than the pic in plantfiles: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/55509/index.html I looked at some other sites and the pics I found are just about identical to that in the plantfiles entry. The closest I could find was an entry called "Coral Sunrise": http://www.lilynook.mb.ca/images/Asiatics/Coral%20Sunrise.jpg

Emily, mind if I post one here? This will be my first Asiatic bloom ever too! I can't wait.....hope it opens all the way tomorrow!

EmilyRasmus, your lily IS Coral Sunset. You should post your picture in the plantfile and actually ask Terry to remove the existing picture. The picture currently on plantfile is mislabled and should not be there. Yours IS Coral Sunset.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I bet your Tropical Dream is going to be beautiful! You get that from Buggycrazy? I think I have a few of those in my lily garden somewhere.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I hope it's beautiful! I got this one from Aknapp's fall bulb co-op....got quite a few of them in that co-op. I just couldn't resist!

Have you guys been getting a lot of rain up your way too? A couple of days there I thought we were gonna float away!

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Turns out the entry in the plant files http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/55509/index.html was made by someone in connection with bloomingbulbs.com. They have the same photo on their website as the one listed in the plantfiles and are also listed in the "vendors have this for sale" section.

Yes, far too much rain. It was supposed to be nice today, but it rained off and on throughout the day. Can't wait for it to start drying out as I actually have standing water in parts of my garden that need further soil amending.

Coral Sunset is supposed to be 36" tall, but like most of my other lilies, it's much shorter. I bet it's only 18" at the most. I wonder if lilies tend to be shorter their first year.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

It's been fairly nice this evening. We had some showers throughout the day too. I think it is supposed to be nice for a few days this week.

I was wondering the same thing. Most of mine are very short....this is the first year for all of them.

Waxhaw (Charlotte), NC(Zone 7b)

Lilies usually take a season to establish. You can not gauge their height until after a full year.

They tend to be shorter their first year. Maybe because the roots are not well established yet.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

My tallest lily is an Asiatic lily labelled as "yellow gal" that is still living in a 1-gallon container. Over 4 1/2 feet tall, just now has buds on it.

mgh,
When your "tropical dream" buds open, would you mind posting a pic? I have 3 marked as "tropical dream" and the bud is the same color as the "coral sunset" so I'm wondering if the one I posted is actually "tropical dream" instead.

On a side note, isn't this weather crazy? Goes from raining 5 weeks straight to 90f.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Emily, the bud opened up yesterday and both days I have forgotten to take a pic. I will try to remember to do it tomorrow. I don't think it looks like it is supposed to, but it is the first bloom, so we will see what the others look like.

Yes, this weather is crazy! It was about 60° three or four days ago and today it was 95°! And here I just got done telling Tazzy how mild our weather is and it has to go and prove me wrong! I had to start watering my lawn today.....things are drying out very fast. I need to start getting into the habit of watering my hanging baskets everyday now too. I missed one day and my mimulus was very droopy! Can't believe it after all the rain we have had.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I hear you. It took me 2 hours to water all of my plants indoors and outside tonight. I'm hoping my other lilies wait a few days for this hot weather to subside before blooming as I'm afraid their blooms will be burned by the hot, dry sun. How often do you water you lilies during hot weather like this?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, I just watered them today for the first time since the rain stopped. This is my first year for lilies so I don't know that much about them....I'm just winging it. LOL I usually always water at night though...I've always heard that was the best time to do it. I don't know if that's right but I do enjoy it since it's my relaxing time after the kids go to sleep. ;-) Thankfully my lilies are lightly shaded by a large tree for most of the day, so they shouldn't get burned. I hope yours don't either.

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Mine get full sun until about 2pm so I think they probably will get burned.

Okay, this isn't a lily, but had to post it any way. My first brugmansia bloom ever.

The verdict's in. The "Coral Sunset" is "Tropical Dream".

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, here is my 'Tropical Dream'. As you can tell it is really faded. I realized that it is getting more afternoon sun than I thought it would. It did have much more color when it first opened, but it still doesn't look like I had hoped it would.
