Lily Lovers... continued

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

so so sorry, golgi. Tom Pouce is special to me - those of you that have heard the story, just skip this part, sorry to bore you, lol - My parents grew up in Holland, immigrated to Canada, and Mom took some favorite recipes with her. Tom Pouce is a very popular dessert in Holland and the lily hybridizer responsible for that gorgeous lily, named it after his favorite dessert! Now that Mom is gone, that lily is a special remembrance of her (and the dessert is yummy, too!) :)

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

A very special lily it is then, kooger. And now I will have a story to go with the flower. Thank you for sharing that with me.

All these pictures are absolutely gorgeous!

debi_z.... those muscadets are so pretty, they look fake. I bought some of those at Walmart last week.. they were a great deal, 6 in a bag for 4.88.

I've always said that the oriental/asiatic lily was proof there is a God, for no one else could do anything that perfect.

This is my first set of blooms since beginning my foray into lilies.

Those are beautiful...what's their name?

Sigh.....I'm just waiting for spring.....major zone envy here : )

I ordered 'Coral Sunset', but I m pretty sure what's blooming is 'Tropical Dream'.

I'm thrilled with the mistake!!!

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

whats in a name it is luscious !

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Just look what happens when you don't check in for a few days....lilies lilies lilies all over the place. I love it!

I was out planting today and yesterday, put about 70 in the ground and still have 5 orders to come in! Whew!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

You frost-free already? Lucky you!! It quit snowing about supper time. I'm guessing about 6-7" total. About double that less than an hour N of us. :)

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i see little trumpet lily greens popping out at one corner of a garden, and then i gaze over and not 15 feet away is snow that hasn't melted yet.
tomorrow is the first day of spring........well officially anyways...............

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Debi, You and Franklin take some mighty fine pics of some gorgeous blooms.... look forward to more....

Dstartz, Your Tropical Dream is beautiful.... I am adding that to my already long list....

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh don't I wish we were frost free already!

Our ground has been thawed for several weeks though ( the farmers are putting down their anhydrous like crazy around here) and I am hoping the bulbs will work on their roots rather than the shoots most of them already have. I am hoping the cool temps of the soil will discourage rampant stem growth! I put them in with about 6 inches of soil over the tops of the bulbs, we'll see.......

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

lilyfan, what is anhydrous and what is it used for?
thanks debi & franklin

Sue, you just plunked the bulbs on the ground and pour a bag of dirt over them? Clever!

debi - anhydrous ammonia, those white tanks you see in farm country, lined up at the elevator. It is fertilizer. The pelleted also makes a good bomb, with other ingredients - as in the OKC federal bldg. bombing.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks kooger

Anhydrous ammonia is nitrogen. It is use primarily to rapidly rot any residual trash/debris/stubble left in the field just before planting time.

It is also a nitrogen that is readily available to the seedlings (there is no need for time and moisture for it to dissolve) so they can pop out of the ground with vigor.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

It also kills all of the angleworms that reside in your soil and after some yrs. will make the soil harder to plow or chisel!
We used it for maybe 4 yrs on our corn ground before discovering the loss of the earth worms.
Earth worms are one of your most valuable resourses when farming or gardening.

Maxine a retired farmer of 42 yrs. in Wisc.

I didn't know that about the earthworms...

We never used anhydrous. That's used in the wetter, clay regions to the east of us. We farmed sandy loam and used liquid fertilizer.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Plenty used around here too ~ as attested to by the number of thefts by the meth addicts.

Mary, the 'born-n-raised' city gal from Nebraska

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

the pelleted is used round here, too, we use it on our fields... and we have those crazy meth nuts around here, too, unfortunately..

Moby, I for sure thought you was born and raised in the country. Happy late St Paddy's Day , me dear ol grandpap on me fathers side used to speak the language of Erin to us when we were wee lads and lasses... I always thought he touched the blarney stone one too many times... lol... he was a lot of fun...

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Ah, yes...the wee folk are a great deal of fun. Some of us are just a bit taller than most. ;) Thanks for the Paddy's day wishes ~ stuffed me gob full with plenty o' corned beef, cabbage and praties.

Went to Des Moines today to play with the Lily Folk; IowaRon, Llilyfan (Sue), Wanda and Anahi (Bev). Wonderfully fun bunch!

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Oooh, now I will not be happy til I taste some corned beef and cabbage... lol... it has been a long time since I had them... :))

and playing with the Lily Folk sounds like great fun... am hoping to meet them the first weekend of May if I can...

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Hope you can!

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Me, too!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Moby & llilyfan twisted my arm and FORCED ME TO BUY MORE LILES! Life is So unfair to poor little innocent me....

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

WOE is Wanda ,poor girll life is so unfair , LOL

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

hmmm, seems we read of some pouncing going on when a nearby booth had a sale.... ok, who was doing this pouncing?

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Maxine
