Anyone have information or links on how to harvest and propagate these? They look like seed pods right now, and are still on the bush - want to harvest them but do not know how!
Peony Seeds
I have save my paeonias seeds by carefully waiting until they are very black and brilliant ,the pod ulmost fully open.
Then I have put them at the refrigerator for more or less 60 days in wet sand in a plastic bag. Then you give them a warmer condiont, then again the refrigarator treatment.Thenyou put them in perlite and sand. and wait.
They first put out their roots, the next year the leafs.
I am in this stage now for almost 2 years.
Books say theyl come to flower in 7 years.
PATIENCE
Ah .... Almost forgot, check they are fertil by leaving them in warm water for some time ,if they go to the bottom they are ok if not better not doing all the work.
I'm not certain-this is my first time harvesting peony seeds too. But I think that you wait until fall when the pods become brown, papery and kind of dried out looking.
The pod will begin to split open, watch for this so the seeds are not lost!
