Croton Leaf-dropping

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I got a Croton from work and repotted it about a month ago. A few days ago it started losing it's leaves. At the rate it's going, it will be bare by this weekend b/c it's a small plant. Anyone know why this happened??? Is it dying???? P.S. I've never had a Croton before.

My grandaughter has 2 croton plants. They lose leaves if they get too dry. On hers the leaves are very upright, but begin to droop as the soil dries too much. I place them in a sink of water to soak for an hour or so about every 2 weeks, then let them drain well. Seems to work for them.
I also water from the top as seems needed.
They are close to a west window which gives them lots of sunshine.

Thanks for your help!!!!

Watch your croton for spider mites. They are notorious for getting them. They suck the juice out of the new growth at the top, when they're just less than an inch long, which then curl up and fall off. Hold the plant up to the light or sun and check at each leaf joint (node) for a tiny web. Any new plant, isolate from the rest because they often come with them. :)
