Every year I plant 3-4 bunches of pampus grass. They do great that year but will not come back the following spring. I have several patches of zebra grass and they all return. What would be the difference? I'm zone 6 and they are planted within 6 ft apart. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any suggestions.
pampus grass dies every year - zebra grass does great
Pampas grass-Cortaderia sellanoa is not hardy for us in 6. There is a bigger variety that is hardy but the plumes are not nearly as impressive, but the grass gets about 15 feet tall. Zebra grass-Miscanthus is quite hardy in six.
I see the pampus grass in yards in my neighborhood. They are huge and seem to be doing great. I must have them planted in poor soil or something is wrong with the plants purchase at Lowes.
Thanks.
True pampas grass really is not hardy for us in 6, not even in 6b. http://www.floridata.com/ref/c/cort_sel.cfm This one is: http://www.holoweb.com/cannon/ravenna.htm
