While y'all party...

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I have been working hard! *giggling*

How about the cut-off is Tuesday 9 am? That way I can attempt to get them all out by Wednesday morning, so y'all can receive them by the weekend.

Here are the things which are available now. I broke them down by categories, and it depends how many people want some of the things, to determine how I can do this.

First, the groundcovers that I have an infinite amount of. All are fairly invasive:

pachysandra
sweet woodruff
wild ginger
bloodroot
lamium 'Chequers'
ribbon grass
Bishop's weed aka goutweed
Mother of thyme
lily of the valley

Next are the perennials (and biennials) that I have a whole lot of:
forget-me-nots
gooseneck loosestrife (can be VERY invasive)
spiderwort -- magenta (also VERY invasive)
sensitive fern
wild violets -- big leaf and small leaf. Big leaf very invasive by underground runner, small leaf very invasive by self-sowing. Both gorgeous and sweetly scented.

Now for the things that I have a limited supply. I am trying to guess how many trades, keeping in mind that I want to give everyone a good-sized division. If only one or two people want something that I have a lot of, they will get a much bigger piece. Ready?

Hostas: All are named varieties from the '80s and '90's, but the nametags are long vanished. Here is a list with a kind of brief description of each:

--green with large undefined white margins, big leaves: 5
--green with smaller better defined white margins, medium
leaves. Spreads well: 3
--variegated that changes as it matures. Opens green with
yellow margins, then changes to blue with green
margins. Small heart-shaped leaves: 5
--solid green, similar to 'Royal Standard' but it isn't
exactly the same. Very large clump-former: 4
--solid green, very small leaves. Really gorgeous: 2

Astilbes:
'Erica' 1
'Superba': 2
cheninsis 'Pumila': 3

Heuchera Purple Palace: 3
Monkshood 'Sparks': 2
Epimedium 'rubra' (bishop's hat, barrenwort): 1
Toadlily x miyazaki: 5
either Campanula portensklagiana or Campanula Poscharskyana
(I can't tell them apart until they bloom; they grow
together): 4
Liriope: 1 (still dormant)
Painter's Palette: 1!!!!! I will have a lot more later in
the summer, but right now, 1!!!!! *grin*
unknown plant, tagged 'Trollius' but unlike any I have seen
before, much more of a roamer with smaller foliage: 1
Bergenia cordifolia: 2
Meadow Rue: 1

Bulbs available right now: species crocus, grape hyacinth, daffodils. I have about 100 bulbs that should be ready to go out on Wednesday. I will have another couple hundred in late May. Very varied mixture.

Now for my premium special plants. Hard bargaining only for these. One per person only!!!! Get back!!!! Pond, got your goatwhip? *grin*

Heuchera Dale's Strain
Tiarella Running Tapestry
Tiarella 'Cygnet'
Heucherella 'Bridget Bloom'
Autumn Fern

Edited to add another unlimited perennial.

Some Posies and some shades of green
To kickstart my new little garden
Is really all that I desire
so my pushiness I trust you'll pardon

I don't want to step on toes
as I push up through the crowd
But I really want one each of those
and for beggin I'm not too proud!

So Lupinelover keep me in mind
and remember how to count
it's 1 for them and 6 for me
when you settle up my account!

And someday when I'm able
to offer divisions of my own
I'll be certain to remember
the generosity you have shown.

(told ya I couldn't be good for long ;~)

Aaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!! Back, back! *whew*

My ISP was down all day yesterday, the library was closed, so I am just now seeing all the fun.

So far, the only thing in serious dispute is the Painter's Palette. Tovara virginiana 'Painter's Palette' is the Latin Name. Here is a link to it: http://www.plantdelights.com/Catalog/Current/Detail/01048.html

It is a very neat plant, adores shade, the flowers are very unusual in the late summer, just a great plant to have around. But $8???? Whew!

I have a mass of seedlings, but they are still very tiny, so how about I will pick one of you (random? first? alphabetical? any suggestions? I know -- the one who can come and help me pack all these boxes!!!) to get it now and the rest can get theirs in late summer?

Zany, if you want something that stays small and is not invasive, I strongly urge you to not pick these violets. I adore violets, have plenty of room to let them roam, but they are VERY INVASIVE!!!! Even if grown in a pot, ants gather and disperse the seeds of that one everywhere! The one that travels by stolen has not shown tendency to re-seed, but the stolons are relentless in their conquest, even in my severely heavy clay. Some of them are 5' long!

Now off to check my e-mails to see what y'all have to say in private... Doing my best to keep to my schedule of getting all these boxed/sent by tomorrow afternoon.

BTW, I will have a lot more bulbs in a few weeks. Only things I won't have are tulips and hyacinths, but many of the minor bulbs (snow iris, chionodoxia, etc) may be in short supply. And only a few more daffodils later... most are already promised to local friends.

One clump that I dug last week had 29 bulbs in the clump. One bloom. Way over-crowded!

Zany, you nut! For the poems you have written, you get anything you want :) But make sure you really want the violets!

Edited to attempt to fix the Hyperlink. Try again...

The link to the Painter's Palette didn't work, :o(

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Someone asked me for a photo of my bed. Well, this isn't the typical shady garden bed. Almost my entire backyard (about 1/6 acre worth) is woodland, originally carpeted with English ivy. That is slowly being replaced by much better things.

Ripping out the ivy, improving the soil, and replanting is very time consuming, and I do a patch every year. After I have replanted the improved site, all my left-over plants are up for grabs, or go into a compost pit.

Here is one photo of a very small part of the area.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

here is a different view of a different part of the backyard, showing the bunny trail through part of it. Most of the groundcover in this photo (taken 7/01) is still English ivy.

Boy that looks pretty, even sideways! Sounds like a lot of work, I know how crazy that ivy can get!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I forgot to add two more shady groundcovers in my original list. Well, not actually FORGOT them, but didn't see them enough to find/dig them. Found them today.

Hardy blue plumbago (Ceratostigma plumbaginoides)
Houttuynia cordata

Anybody want????

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

Ooo! Ooo! Plumbago please? My one was Geeeeeeeourgeous last year. Would love another! :) yipee!
