Is this REALLY cacus?

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Couldn't help it folks! Saw this recently and just had to have it! I've never seen a cactus with leaves before. Is it really a cactus, and if so, any idea of the name of this beauty?

Shoe I almost got this same plant today at HD,till I saw 2 sago palms someone had hidden at a reduced price behind some pots,if you don't get it IDed,I'll check the tag tomorrow.:)

It is a Euphorbia fo sure. Perhaps E. perrieri, lambi, nerifolia, vigniari, or maybe not. Good luck!
How about adding it to the eyedee forum?

Hi shoe,
You are right, it is NOT a cactus, it is a Pachypodium lamerei which is a succulent.
I am sure you have heard the phrase before: 'All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cati') As far as I know there are only two genera of cacti which do have leaves: Peireskia and Pereskiopsis, and these don't look much like a cactus either.

Anyway, your Pachypodium lamerei comes from Madagascar (this is what's often called 'Madagascar Palm' although it has nothing at all to do with a palm.

wow...thanks maddy, I've always wanted a Non-cactus cactus!

Ulrich, that was my next step, the ID forum. Is Pachypodium synonymis with Euphorbia, or are well still talking two different plants here? I'll try to find some pics of each and post.

Root, if you don't mind, check the tag when you go...I'd like to know what HD is selling it as, just for curiosity sake.

Thanks folks.

Well I'll be..., I should have known better. I even took this picture not long ago: http://plantsdatabase.com/showpicture/6898/ Didn't relate the size, but many Euphorbias have leaves too.

Hmmm...just found out why. The URL for that particular plant still only shows the same URL for the home page...it doesn't add extensions onto it for some reason.

Oh well.
