I have never really thought about using one, but now I think I'll go out and buy one just for the fun of it.

I consider "The old farmer's almanac to be fun reading but don't take the advice particularly seriously

Rutherfordton, NC(Zone 7a)

I like the ads. But up here in the mountains, people plant their crops by it-and have their teeth pulled by it.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

It's a bit entertaining, or used to be for me. I bet I haven't seen one in years. My neighbors up the road live by it tho. I tend to plant what and when I want.

Jacksonville, IL(Zone 5a)

I voted no, but not exactly because I don't find it helpful. It's just that I don't use it. It probably would be helpful. I do try to plant by the signs of the moon, but they don't always fit into my schedule! I find that when I do, though, things are usually more successful.

Cleveland, OH(Zone 5b)

I didn't vote. I just never picked one up. But like dguimo said, I think I will just for the fun of it.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I have enough trouble trying to fit planting into my busy schedule, and without being caught by the weather, without trying to complicate my life by figuring out planting by the phases of the moon! Don't see the sense of it, personally.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

I have found that almost every transplant or plant flowers date is followed by rain. Occaisionally there will be an exception (we've just been in a drought). Today was a transplant day and it rained tonight. It has improved my gardening tremendously, but sometimes it is difficult to work around the specified dates. I prefer Blum's Farmer's and Planter's Almanac.

Rapid City, SD(Zone 5b)

I use it each year and it seems to work like a charm. I also use it to plan my vacations in summer for good weather - perhaps I am just lucky, but it seems to work well for me. P.S. I also read my horroscope, LOL!

What's a Farmer's Almanac?

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I voted no - just because I have never used it, not because I don't find it useful - it might be!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Evert, check here: http://davesgarden.com/gardenology/go/16/ and here: http://davesgarden.com/gardenology/go/618.html for some idea of an Almanac. Here's a link to the OFA's website: http://davesgarden.com/gardenology/go/618.html

Seward, AK

The Almanac was made for the lower 48 States, and is of no use in Alaska. The best advice is, of course, to plant when it's raining or will rain. That makes the days and nights of equal temperature with no risk of burning or drying out in the sun.

Vols, all those links went to gardenology definition.
Here is the online farmer's almanac.
