I'm growing a bunch of radicchio in containers. I don't have luck with cabbage and my sister likes red cabbage in salads, so I thought I'd give this a try. They are not forming heads, and I read it's probably because I started them at the wrong time. The leaves look good, and the bugs don't bother them like my other greens. If I cut the outer leaves, can I cut up the stems and use them in mixed greens? I'm also growing malabar spinach, which does well in the heat. Thanks

Your location isn't posted but radicchio is a cool season veggie and requires a chilling period to head. It's not at all like cabbage in that it is naturally bitter. I'm not sure it would be edible in hot weather. Nothing lost by trying outer leaves. I've only grown it a couple of times and planted in mid to late September.
Edited to add the stems will probably be best cooked to tone done the flavor but they are edible.
