Can anyone tell me what type of pest may be doing this to my Nellies, and what I can potentially do to fix it?
I'm assuming this is being done by some sort of pest. I can't explain the brown spots. But the ends of the leaves certainly appear to be chewed up. And it appears as though there are droppings all around the base of each shrub that is experiencing this.
These shrubs are 8-10 years old and this has never been an issue. I'm in the Dallas, TX area.
Thanks in advance!
Nellie R Stevens damage from unknown pest
I wonder if you have 2 things going on.
1.Holly leafminers love holly but I do not see long pathways but still could be burrowing as it feeds in the middle of the leaf sucking the life out of it.
2. Maybe some cat larvae eating the surface of the back of the leaves. Look all over the undersides.
Small animals can eat holly leaves but with the poop below, I think you have a few big caterpillars living on your bushes. Look all over esp under the leaves. Look at night with a flashlight too.
