Eaten cucumber fruits

East Meadow, NY

I am first time growing vegetable garden. I have cucumbers in container. I had several small cukes eaten completely on the vine that was almost touching the ground. I blame slugs for that. I check my plants daily and today I noticed two cukes fruit were bitten and they are almost on the top. What do you think can leave damage like that? It so disappointing to see them be eaten and I want to save my others, so that they can grow.

Those are rodent teeth. Either rats or squirrels. Rats tend to take the whole fruit. Squirrels like to sample everything on the menu.

Yeah, those look like rodents to me too. Same thing happened in my garden last year. They sample every piece. 😑 Recommend you try the automatically moving fake owls or the automatic water sprayer to try to get rid of them.

Drops of lavender oil, at ground level will deter squirrels .. but have to be replaced after each rain or watering. I've heard that peppermint oil also works.
