So I ordered these what is supposed to be giant hibiscus seeds, the owner never would let me know exactly what kind or if it even is a hibiscus seed. Any ideas
Hibiscus seed?
I don't know what a "giant hibiscus" is, but they do look like seeds from something in the Hibiscus family (Malvaceae). So maybe it's what you wanted? Suggest saving some of them for planting in the spring as it's a bit late to be starting seeds for this year.
You could also try to find a picture of the plant/flowers you were expecting to get and search to find its correct name and then search for what the seeds should look like.
Reminds me of Hollyhock seeds which is in the same family as Hibiscus.
ordered from amazon, should have known better, I was trying to get Hardy giant hibiscus. Supposed to be dinnerplate size flowers.. I doubt these are true to the picture on amazon!! LOL thanks for the help. Came from hong kong in the mail
I was scammed, they are holly hock seeds!!! Not hardy hibiscus
Try a more reliable source like Park Seed. They can be rather pricey but at least you get what you paid for. http://search.parkseed.com/search?w=hibiscus
I have two hibiscus plants that are about fifteen years old. One is a Texas Star and the other is a Lord Baltimore. Both blooms are red. The Texas star flowers are about five inches wide and the Lord Baltimore flowers are eight to ten inches wide. The Texas Star produces seed, the Lord Baltimore doesn't
Hmmm, wonder if Midnight Marvel is in the same boat as Lord Baltimore (used to have that one). Never seen a seed pod stay on the plant but the other ones I have make copious amounts of seed. The hibiscus sawflies have made lace of my Midnight Marvel and Confederate Rose and some Roses of Sharon this year.
