Beautiful blooms Jackie! Glad you are hand pollinating those blooms!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Helena.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Jackie, those are very pretty.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I think you picked the best three to pollinate. Gorgeous blooms from those.
I really do not know how to pollinate, I think. I can't see why I wouldn't get crosses with all the pollinators I have outside. I bet I do.. saving two seeds from every i nil and tricolor I harvest, then I I am going to figure out the rest. *SIGH*

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Debra I think there might be instructions on how to pollinate in the sticky at the top of our forum. Also you can google parts of a flower. My method is just hit or miss. You can see the white pollen at the tips of the anthers.
I get some of the pollen on the tip of my brush and whisk it around a little deeper in the throat
of the bloom. It works most of the time, with a few exceptions
The lovely Plum Surprise hasn;t made a single seed no matter what pollen I put on it. Maybe its sterile?
I don't see any honey bees outside to do the pollinating for me, thanks to Monsanto.
Early in the spring, I only saw a few bees where I used to have hundreds.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Jackie, if you were to plant some gaura and some eupatorium your bees will return, I promise, and all mine were just from wild flower seeds I threw down before snow time and then I threw some down in early spring on top of the snow. I'll send you a few seeds of those two bee plants.
they are kind of tall and weedy, but when they bloom, the bees flock to it.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Linda
Debra, thanks but don't worry about sending them right now. I don't know when or if I'd ever
get them planted.

Gautier, MS

I'm still getting a few blooms from vines that I thought were done.

Its gorgeous.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh I agree! Love your speckled, and that l'st purp is so interesting, I just love the striped blooms, never a same exact bloom..
this is a repeat , sorry but it just won't stop///
I LOVE the yellow leaves on my Pandy right now.. so pretty!
oange noah is keeping the dried up sunflower arch in one piece now.. Just a few blooms left on the sunflowers, everywhere I cut back there is a new growth with some flowers.. The Butterflys are still stopping by, but I haven't seen my Hummer since last weekend..
Jackie, seriously , all I do is throw the seeds where ever I want them ( or hope) to grow, no digging or raking involved at my house.. :D

Cool here too about 50 overnite.
DH took so long getting my greenhouse ready for the winter

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Linda, the temps here are unbelievable. 53 last nite but still managed to get up to 93 today.
it will be 94 here tomorrow. I;m not going to complain because this will be the last of the extra warm temps. I still haven't forgot about how cold I was all winter.

Gautier, MS

Beautiful bloom Jackie.

It feels perfect here for now.

First bloom is for you Jackie. Still enjoying a few of the last to bloom.
