Thanks! My cactus was given to me and she's pretty old and was definitely water deprived. She has really perked up this past week that I have had her. Is she brown and dry looking in spots due to under watering?

Yes she is a little strange looking but I couldn't tell you exactly why. If you can provide strong light and regular water (when soil is dry or almost dry) the cactus should recover. These are pretty sturdy plants.

They don't look like buds to me but nice new growth from the watering.
