Do you know what color the blooms are?

Reminds me of a hedgehog cactus ie Echinocereus enneacanthus.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

It looks very much like Echinocereus scheerii v. koehresii. I have several specimens of that species but it's difficult to positively identify until you see a flower. Mine bloom orange-red, but there is quite a bit of variability as to bloom color in that species. You cancheck the spine arrangement, and color, but there again there is variability. Most of the areoles on mine have 1 central spine and about 10 radial spines. The description calls for 1-4 central spines and 5-12 radials. Hope that information is of some use.

thank you…good as guess as any so far…

Looks a little hedgehoggy..... Has it been stressed? Darker coloration around spines?

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

very cold and windy here but very little rain… I would certainly guess it's been stressed

Yes. Really cool looking specimen! Lucky you!
