March: in like a lion!!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Time for a new thread! The weather outside in much of the U.S. is frightful!! I am sooo ready for Spring.

I am way behind--again!! I have been in central AR this past week--staying with Michelle #2 (there are 3 Michelle's in my life) in Benton and visiting from there with my sister, my son and my DGD, Samantha. I drove home late Thursday afternoon and had to catch up on laundry yesterday.

It sounds like you all have some changes going on in your lives: Jeri, Mary. Genna. Then there are Sandra and Loretta with their eye surgeries. Charlotte, it's good to hear that things went well for you at the garden show and congrats to Jake for getting the job teaching English in Hungary. It will be a good learning experience for him!!

I can tell you ladies who are thinking about down-sizing that you won't regret it. It is amazing how getting rid of a lot of "stuff" which has been accumulated over the years will free you up--in every way. I went through that when I moved from Cabot to Harrison. When I married Al and moved to the Ozark Mountains, I didn't have a lot of "stuff" because I had either given it away or sold it or donated what was left to Goodwill. I went from a 3400 sq. ft. house in the Conway, AR area to a 2000 sq. ft. house in Cabot then to my own little apartment in the basement of my daughter's house (it sounds like I was living in a dungeon but that was not the case at all - LOL) and now I am in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house again but it is something less than 1700 sq. ft. with 4 acres--most of which is wooded. Only about 1 1/2 acres has to be mowed and that is more than enough!! Thank goodness for riding mowers and all the other equipment needed to maintain this place!! So far, Al and I have been in good enough health and able to do what needs to be done around here but we might eventually have to consider moving to a smaller place ourselves.

We are waiting to hear from the knee doctor in St. Louis that Al saw in January so we will know what, if anything, he is going to do or can do about Al's knee. The knee stays swollen and is starting to pain Al more and more. He has had surgery on that same knee twice already, so something is not right. We went to a different doctor this time around--one who came highly recommended. Anyway, Al is not one to sit around and twiddle his thumbs. He has to be doing something all the time and it is aggravating for him not to be able to do everything he wants to do because of that knee or to have to stop and rest the knee whenever he is out splitting logs or whatever it might be.

Jeri: I forgot to tell you to have fun at Disney World!!

Our temp today is supposed to be 50F or thereabouts. Tomorrow our temp is supposed to be 16F with a low on Sunday night of 1F!!!!! BRRRRRR
I found this graphic on Facebook. It expresses my feelings exactly!! LOL

Oops, I posted on the old thread, but thanks for the new!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

This is what Sandra posted on the Feb. thread. I copied and pasted it here for her because I know she just had her eye surgery and is seeing differently with each eye:

"Jeri, thanks for posting for me. My body betrayed e again and chicken little had to be put to sleep again ! They told Jerry I had a "boatload" of medicine this time. This eye is much better than the other was. The feeling of a stick in it is much less than the first one. I thought I was seeing well with the first one, but now---WOW--the right one is so good that it makes the left one seem bad again! Of course she said the left eye would be the one to make me have glasses when it is all over. I still feel a little sluggish from the meds and the new way I am having to see things. Now I am opposite ! I used to take my glasses off to read, now I have to have readers to read! If I forget and get up with the magnifiers on it makes me dizzy ! It is quite an adjustment, but I will get used to it soon I a, sure ! praise God the whole thing is done, my nerves have been shot from struggling to see things and hopefully that is over now! Just have to get my new habits straight. I go on March 26th for new glasses, of course I have to see the surgeon next week, but I a, looking forward to that last visit.
Loretta, so happy you are doing great and hope your second one does even better as mine has!

Jerry's Mom had to be admitted to hospital yesterday. She took a cold Tues night and Glenda came yesterday to take her to the doc. She was so sick, Glenda took her on to the ER hoping she would not have to sit all day as she does in office to see the doc. They kept her there in Ripley all afternoon because her oxygen kept dropping too low. They also found she has a UTI. The doctor decided to send her to Corinth where there is a lung doctor. Ripley is pretty much a first aid station now, just GP doctors. They said at Ripley she had a small spot of pneumonia, she has COPD and is on oxygen at 2.5-24/7. When they got her to Corinth they put her on 4 oxygen and when Jerry came home she was more comfortable. Hopefully they will get her fixed up and back home soon, I am lonesome just knowing she is not down the hill."

Sandra: I'm sorry about Jerry's mom being sick. I hope she is better and back home again real soon!

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Marilyn you should have planned your trip so you could have stopped by Kathy Ann's today on your way home.

We had a great time as usual and ate way too much!!

Sandra, Loretta was there and was doing great! She didn't seem to be having any problems. Driving around like a crazy woman trying to keep up with Kathy Ann on the way to Bald Knob. She said she didn't have any discomfort in her eye. She has the other one done in two weeks. She said she was amazed at how much better she can see. Hope your eyes clear up soon.

We have another winter storm coming through tomorrow. Enough already!! We were talking about when we are going to make some plant runs and finally decided we were going to have to wait and see what the weather is going to do. We decided it's going to be much later before the nurseries get a lot of their plants in.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Charlotte, I was gone 4 days as it was and I think Al would have sent a search party after me if I had stayed another 2 days away from home. LOL Besides that, I was thinking you ladies were having your party on the 8th, so I didn't plan to come. It was only when I saw on Facebook that the party was the first, that I realized I should have planned my trip differently.

Loretta, I'm so glad you are doing so well after your eye surgery!

The latest in the winter weather is on its way. We are expecting from 2--4 inches of sleet/snow/freezing rain today. Our low tomorrow night is supposed to be ZERO!!! BLEAH!!! Our church services were cancelled this morning because of the expected bad weather. We live in a rural area where the county roads are hilly and curvy and we have an aging congregation. Most folks up here do not get out in this kind of weather at all, which is good!!

Manchester, TN

Im in TN and my lilacs are budded-we're supposed to get below freezing temps too. Do I need to cover?

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Marilyn it will take a long time for 2 to 4 inches of ice to melt!! It's sleeting here and has started sticking to the streets. I imagine things will be shut down tomorrow but it warms up Tues. I have lots to do at home and since I want be able to get out hope to get a lot done tomorrow!

It rained here all day. Really hard at times. We even had thunder and lightening! I've been working on pricing and cleaning today. Seems I can't ever stay home long enough to get some things done. Hope to get started on a couple of painting projects tomorrow.

I have lots of daffodils in bloom and the sleet is really beating them down. Glad they have not all bloomed yet. This has been the craziest year for weather!!

Laceys Spring, AL(Zone 7a)

Gardeninfool, I hope you covered last night! I heard it was down to below freezing up your way! It was 33 or so here in North Ala this morning after being around 70 all day yesterday. Fickle weather this month so who knows what will happen between now and the middle of April.

Sandra, glad your surgery went so well and that you can see great. I'm sure the new glasses will be an adjustment. I have reading glasses too after wearing contacts for so many years. After the Lasik surgery I only need the readers so it is an adjustment. I sometimes forget too when I get up and forget to take them off. You'll adjust, lol!

Marilyn, hope it doesn't stay too bad up your way!

Girls, sounds like y'all had a good time at Kathy Ann's. Saw the photos posted on FB. Good times!!

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

We have a solid sheet of ice here today! It sleeted for several hours last night. Some little snow flurries are going on right now. But the sun is shining and it's going to warm up tomorrow. May not melt today as the high is only going to be 27! I have lots to do inside so hopefully I can get a lot of it done today. Sure not going anywhere!!

I didn't mention it before Sandra's surgery but Richard had a terrible time with his cataract surgery. He had been taking a med for prostrate and it can cause complications and it did for him. They had to use some kind of device to hold his eye open and that caused some kind of damage to his cornea I believe it was. Can't remember for sure as it's been several years ago. But his vision was not good afterward and he ended up having to go to a another eye doctor - a specialist in his problem. He had to do some kind of procedure which finally got his vision cleared up. It took several months but in the end he could see better than before the cataract surgery. He has only had one eye done and really hope he doesn't have to have the other one done.

Ripley, MS

Charlotte, thank you for sparing me that--right before I was scheduled for one of my back surgeries, can't remember which right now a "friend" of mine had to go and tell me about waking up during her knee replacement surgery but could say anything. What a comfort that was--LOL
I am sorry Richard had such a time with his. Maybe since he is not driving now he will be able to manage without having the other done.

Mammaw Mills has been in hospital, but much better now, she gave us a scare Sat, couldn't breathe much at all, but they put some dieuretic in her IV which helped her. Glenda is with her now and they might send her home this afternoon.
Kenneth had his cancer removed this morning and is doing well.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Mrs Mills seems to be having a lot of problems lately. Hope she is better and can come home soon. Glad that Kenneth is doing well.

Yes Sandra it's amazing what some people will tell you! Richard's problem all had to do with the meds he was taking. Somehow it affects the eye - maybe the muscle in the eye.

Nothing is melting here today. But I have tons of things that need to be done and I am getting some of it accomplished! I'm tired of the cold but really didn't mind being iced in today. I needed a couple of days just in the house.

Ripley, MS

Yes, she will be 84 the 13th of this month. Glenda said that the heart doc is concerned about her pacemaker and won't let her go until he can see her. They have turned her oxygen down to 3 now. Physical Therapy has walked her a short walk twice today and she was worse with her breathing on the second walk than the first. I told Glenda I would come stay with her tomorrow and let her go home, she thanked me and said she would stay.

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Sandra, sorry to hear your MIL is ill. This winter has been really hard on everyone - I know several people much younger than her who have been hospitalized with pneumonia or the flu.... I'm hopeful they got her checked out good and that she will be home soon. I'm sure she is more than ready to be back at home! Does Mrs. Mills suffer from congestive heart failure?

Leigh's grandmother's bday was also March 13.......

Leigh's hand seems to be doing really well - and in a few weeks I don't even think you will be able to tell where his scar is. His incision is about 5" long, but is healing remarkably well. We go back to the dr tomorrow for his followup and I feel fairly certain he will return to work next week. I hope he isn't rushing it because he has to lift a lot of heavy things - 105 lb batteries for one thing - and he has to connect and disconnect a lot of small things so he uses his hands and fingers a lot. Last night it was swollen some because he had been using it too much during the day......to me that says he isn't really ready to return to work REGARDLESS of how much cabin fever he has! ^_^ But, then you know HE thinks he is................ LOL

Sandra, I bet it is a big adjustment after your surgery but sounds like your surgeries went great and were a huge success. My Dad sustained damage to one of his "lens" while he was undergoing heart surgery. We never did find out what happened during surgery to damage it, and of course this has been years ago (1992) but they were unable to replace the lens again so he never did have good vision after that. Now, from what I understand, they can even replace the lens again if necessary. Technology is constantly expanding the limits of what they can accomplish with surgery! Kyle has plans to 'shadow' an opthalmologist over the next several weeks there in Arkadelphia so he is hoping to get to witness a few of the procedures.

It is COLD and I am ready for some above freezing temperatures!!

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Genna glad Leigh's hand is doing so well. I know he will be glad to get back to his normal routine. Is he still driving back and forth to Little Rock every day? If so it was good he was off this week. Roads were a mess yesterday and still are in neighborhoods today.

I just discovered the neatest thing with my new laptop! I can talk to it and it will do things for me. It has what is called Dragon Assistant. I just say hello dragon and it asks me what I want to do. I can have it check my email, facebook, get my calculator, etc, etc. I can dictate notes. So much to learn with it!

Ripley, MS

She doesn't have that official diagnosis, but with her COPD worsening, I am sure it is probable not too far away. She already has a pacemaker.
I took their supper and she was napping, Glenda said she woke up at 3:30 this morning !
Home health is coming today.

I asked about the possibility of more cataracts as they kept saying I was young. The answer I got was this---when the implant eventually gets cloudy there is a procedure that they do with lasers to correct that.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Sandra my mother had congestive heart failure and some of the things you have mentioned sound similar.

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Charlotte - he is driving still, but of course, has been off since the 13th when he had surgery. I am trying to get him to delay returning for at least another week so he doesn't injure it, but I doubt he will do so. The doctor basically said 2 weeks ago he would leave it up to Leigh when he felt like he could return. :( Cabin fever has set in and he is SICK of being stuck at home..... BUT, once he goes back to driving he will be tired of that soon too. We are praying that the position will open in El Dorado soon, but so far it hasn't posted.

I just called a few minutes ago to make sure that Hot Springs was ok and that the clinic was open..... they said roads up that way were clear thank goodness! LR looked really rough on the news last night!

Sandra, sounds like her schedule got disrupted by being in the hospital.....or does she always wake up that early? The use of the diurectic is what made me ask about the congestive heart failure. Leigh's gm had that and she only had one kidney so it was really a struggle....they would put her on diurectics for the buildup of fluid, then have to take her off because it was overloading her one kidney, then the fluid would build up again and she would have to go back on...... she was on that rollercoaster for the last several years and it just got worse as she went along. I am glad to hear that Mrs. Mills is back home - I am sure that makes her feel much better by itself!!

Did I tell ya'll that I am going on a cruise with my sister? She gave me a cruise for my 50th bday in December and we have finally set the date.....leaving on Apring 27th and on a day like today, I am wishing we were leaving this weekend instead!! We are going to Cozumel, Belize and Isle of Roatan (not sure of the spelling) ..... I am excited about the trip, but wish we were going sooner. She is remodeling her soon to be house and just didn't think she could leave before then. I'm sure the way time flies by, it will be here before I know it!

Hope everyone stays warm!!

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

The fluid buildup is also what made me wonder. Mother would have fluid build up so bad the skin on her leg would just break and ooze a gooey fluid. She took diuretics every day and she never looked actually swollen. The doctor told her to walk to help build up her lungs. Also one of the problems with congestive heart failure. She didn't go far from the house (she would walk around the block a few times) but she walked every day until she just got to the point she couldn't. She had a neighbor that would walk with her. She walked even if her neighbor couldn't and would even walk in a light rain! She was 76 when she died and it was from the congestive heart failure and she also needed another by pass surgery (she had had 2 ten years apart) and they couldn't do surgery as she would not have been able to make it through the surgery. She was actually wanted to have the surgery but the doctor wouldn't do it because he knew she wouldn't make it through surgery. It had only been about 4 years since she had had triple by pass surgery. She had a quadruple by pass when she was 62. They don't last forever.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Genna forgot to say I'm sure you'll enjoy your cruise. I've been to Cozumel before but not the other places. Sounds like your following the coast of Mexico, Belize and Honduras. I've been on a cruise to a number of Caribbean Islands. It's nice to be able to get out and explore the places you stop and then be able to get back on the ship. Love the Caribbean. Would like to go back!

Ripley, MS

My sister wants me to take her to Hattiesburg to see her grandson Adam graduate this May, where is my cruise ??????? Oh well, you will just have to have enough fun for us all Genna.

They want Mammaw to walk too, but she can barely get around. She is on lasix every day for a long time now, her ankles swell badly. They are down now and she was admiring her slim ankles-said she hadn't had legs that skinny in a long time ! Her ankles have been so bad they had her on 2 a day. The home health came today and physical therapy should come tomorrow.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Mother was on lasix too. She took it for a long long time. She was younger than Mrs. Mills which I'm sure helped her with her getting around. Also she had always been a very active person. She ALWAYS got up by 6 at the latest and was on the go all day until about 11 pm. She always went to bed late and got up early - go figure! After dad retired mother would get mad at him for sleeping in! Like he told her "what difference does it make?" However, the last year or so before she died she had a much harder time. Dad started going to the grocery store with her. He would push the cart for her and get what she wanted off the shelf and then bring the groceries in when they got home. It had gotten hard for her to reach and lift anything. That was a real change for him! He never went to the grocery store before that. That's when I realized how much she was going down hill. She really believed in doing what the doctor told her. She didn't eat any fried food. Didn't use salt, etc. She just had bad genes! My brother died of heart problems at 59. I go for regular check ups. My cardiologist told me the last time I went a few months ago that I must have inherited the good genes as my heart is fine.

Laceys Spring, AL(Zone 7a)

Genna, I remember you said you were going on a cruise! That one sounds great. I've never been, but I've heard great things about Belize and Roatan. Seen parts of those places on TV and of course have heard about Cozumel. Should be so relaxing and enjoyable. Hope Leigh doesn't go back to work too soon. You are right...he doesn't need to over-do.

Sandra, glad to see you doing so well, but sorry about your MIL.

You folks really had a bad time this go-round with the weather. We had really cold temps and some ice north of us, but nothing bad here. Haven't been out in the yard much since Sunday. Some of my early daffs are blooming but I think I lost all my miniature gardenias except maybe a couple. Oh well, if that's the worst of it for this winter that isn't awful. I think the daffs are ok, but the Tulip Poplar buds are probably toast. They always seem to suffer and probably won't come back.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Elaine we did have some bad weather here. We had about an inch and a half of sleet Sun night. Schools were closed Mon and Tues as it didn't get above 27 Mon and the roads were a mess! Our street finally melted except for a few spots late yesterday afternoon. The ground is still covered in sleet/ice. It's supposed to continue to warm up this week so hopefully it will start melting.

I saw where Garden O Vey posted on FB that they had lost all their gardenia stock. She showed pictures and they were toast! When I moved here there were 3 big gardenia bushes in front of my kitchen window. It's a big triple bay type window. We had a winter similar to what we are having this year and I lost all three of them. I cut them back to the ground but left the roots in the ground. A couple of years later one of them came back from the roots! It has never gotten as full as some of my other ones but it has gotten really tall. I have to prune it back some every year. I hadn't thought about my gardenia until Gardens O Vey posted that and now you mention losing some also. Need to check mine. They are very susceptible to the cold.

Genna you might take something with you for motion sickness. I have never had any problems with motion sickness but discovered when I went on a fishing trip out in the San Fransisco bay that open water can cause me to get sea sick. So when we went on a cruise I bought some of those wrist bands and took with me. Good thing I did! When we hit open water I got sea sick. The bands worked (at least for me). There is a little ball that puts pressure on a certain spot on your wrist. As long as I can see land I'm fine but when there is nothing but sea it makes me motion sick. The water also seems to be rougher and causes the ship to have more motion. On the big ship you can barely feel the motion so don't think it's going to be rocking like in a small boat!! I did really enjoy the cruise and would definitely do it again. I love the sun and the Caribbean. My all time favorite vacation was to the island of Anguilla. We flew there. Very laid back island - not a place to go if your looking for shopping, etc. I had to walk down a dirt road to find some tshirts to bring back as souvenirs.

Ripley, MS

My mini gardenia. Is gone too. I feel sorry for Diane, from some of the posts she had made earlier it looked like financial ruin was at their door. She was very worried about the early bad weather we had before Christmas. I only had one but she had lots of things to worry about.
I should have known something was going to happen to mine, it bloomed beautifully for the first time last season. Before it was just a bloom here and there.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Yes I have felt sorry for Diane. You can tell she is really down! While a dead gardenia and other plants is just an I convience for us - it's their lively hood! They don't even have a greenhouse to put things in to protect.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Sandra, I hope Mammaw Mills is doing better today and that your eyes are getting better every day, too!

Genna: Hopefully, Leigh will wait that extra week before returning to work even if he does have cabin fever. I had remembered that you said your sister was taking you on a cruise. You will have such a good time!! I will warn you ahead of time that the food is delicious and it is available practically 24/7 so be sure to take your will power with you! :) I agree with Charlotte that you need to take something for seasickness with you when you go on your cruise. I have been on 3 different cruises and there were short periods on all 3 of them when I got a bit seasick. Fortunately, it didn't last very long and I did have something to take for it. You can get an RX from your doctor for patches that you put behind your ear. They work very well--at least they did for me.

Our weather folk are telling us that we will have temps in the 60's on Friday but we are far from that today. This is what it looks like out my door today:

Marilyn, you just moved into the cold zone--Cayla is still stuck inside too, they didn't thaw out any today, maybe tomorrow. She said they were thinking the schools there would not go back this week at all.

Mammaw was sounding a little better today, according to her nurse. She seemed a little stronger today too.
My eyes are doing wonderful !

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Sandra, so glad to hear that your eyes are doing great and that Mammaw is sounding better and feeling a bit stronger.

We had some thawing yesterday and will have more today and certainly tomorrow as it is supposed to reach up into the low 60's by then! They are even promising that we may hit 70F by Monday!!

Saturday night/Sunday morning we are supposed to go back to Daylight Savings Time so everybody remember to set their clocks forward one hour.

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Well, Leigh's doctor told him he could NOT go back to work for at least 2 more weeks - he has to go thru some occupational therapy as well. He can't get that started until Tuesday - but they are hoping that will help it heal faster. He could go back to work now except that he has to be able to lift batteries that weigh 115 lbs by either straps on top or by "finger holds" on the ends. The dr said that would put WAYYY too much stress on his hands with the condition they are in and since ATT wont let him return until he can do the entire job, he can't go back yet. I was thankful the guy told him that!! Because I was afraid he would go back too soon and do more damage. He did tell him to start slowly lifting more than the 10 lbs he has been working with the past week and try to get up to 30 by next week and hopefully to 50 the next week - if so, then maybe he will be able to return to work.

We have our daffodil festival here in town tomorrow and Saturday. It would sure be nice to have some warmer weather for it. It was 36 when I left for work this morning, but 40 when I went home for lunch and the 40 felt worse than the 36 from this morning because of all the moisture in the air! The sun has finally peeped out in the past 30 minutes or so, so maybe it will warm up a little before nightfall.

I am excited about the cruise, but a little nervous about the not being able to see land part. But, I do plan on getting some medicine to take with me just in case. Belize looks the most interesting to me because they have some mayan ruins.....not sure if we will be able to go on the excursion that goes to them, but I hope to. There are actually two different excursions, but the one I would prefer to see is 7 hrs - so we would not be able to do anything else in belize but that. Haven't talked to my sister yet about the excursions and she may prefer to have some free time to look at the shops. If so, there is another smaller ruin that is on a shorter trip that I hope to see.

Not looking forward to losing that hour of sleep but I am ready for spring and that's a sure sign it is on the way!! ^_^

It appears that I have lost several of the shrubs and stuff that were planted last year...... not sure yet, but they just might not have been established enough to survive these harsh conditions. We also have several gardenias and they may be gone as well............. My oleanders almost looks like someone burned their leaves - the leaves are all curled and dead looking - not sure they will survive or not. Several things look pretty rough!! Of course, I am sure the weeds managed to survive! :)

Sandra, so glad you are doing well and glad to hear that Mrs. Mills is doing better. Maybe she can just start with a few steps at a time and slowly work up..........Leigh's grandfather had complete kidney failure and went into a coma. They basically laid him aside to die at the Warren hospital and the family insisted that he be moved to LR....at LR they did some short term dialysis treatments that shocked his kidneys back into functioning and removed a lot of the toxins that had built up in his body. Unfortunately all those toxins took their toll and it was months before his mind was back to normal, etc. But, he was used to being active and refused to just sit in the house - and so he started walking the floors. Could only stand up for a few minutes at a time when he came home but eventually got to where he was pacing the floors, then he would walk the neighborhoods. He would walk until he was about to collapse and then knock on someone's door he knew and have them call his house for Leigh's grandmother to pick him up. He was mad because they took away his truck and he couldn't drive, but he eventually got to where he was walking several miles every day. And of course, he eventually got to where he was also walking back home instead of her having to go get him......in the process of all that "exercise" ouf of frustration, he helped clear his body and mind of all those toxins and slowly returned back to normal. It was an amazing transformation and a real testiment to the benefit of walking. Speaking of which, I NEED to get back on to the treadmill every day....it has been months since I have been on it! :(

Marilyn, hope ya'll eventually thaw out! Looks like it might be a while...........

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Genna: I'm so glad that Leigh's doctor told him he could not go back to work yet! The OT will help and it will give him something to do. :) That is an amazing story about Leigh's grandfather. It just goes to show you that medical personnel aren't always right (the ones in Warren) and also it is a testimony to the human will.

We experienced quite a bit of thawing and melting yesterday and should have a lot more today. There is still a lot of snow in our yard, though, but we are getting there!!

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm enjoying this beautiful weather we're finally having!!! Gorgeous sunshine! My son is also here and enjoying his visit. He had a meeting in Monroe, LA Fri. morning so he flew in here late Wed night and spent the night and worked from here on Thursday then then drove to Monroe Thursday afternoon. He came back here late yesterday afternoon and is flying home late this afternoon. It's been good to have him here. I actually cooked a big home made meal last night and it was really good. Maybe I should do it more often!LOL I cooked a pork loin roast, rice, corn casserole, sauteed mushrooms, carrots in orange juice and for desert an old fashioned cola sheet cake. I used the recipe without the marshmallows.

Hope everyone is enjoying this gorgeous day!

We should be hearing from Jeri soon about their trip to Disney.

Ripley, MS

I am packing up to stay at Mammaws with her. No Internet there, maybe I can check in with my phone. My doc said my eye pressure was high and gave me drops to use for a week and come back for a pressure check only. She said it should fix me right up. I still have the little windshield wiper effect I had before surgery, so she pulled a little case from her pocket, used something that made a lilac, purplish light in my eye and said it was a floater ! It is a transparent floater, usually they look dark.
Mammaw is still pretty sick and still weak, we don't want her alone yet. Maybe in a few more days she will start getting better.

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Marilyn, glad to hear you are thawing some! The weather was decent yesterday for our daffodil festival but feels cool and damp today - at least to me! I was glad the doctor had him stay off a few more weeks as well, because I know he will overdo once he goes back. They make them move all those batteries alone and in awkward positions in and out of cabinets ..... so that makes him much more likely to strain his incision and the muscles in his hand that do not need to be pushed currently. Hopefully the OT will be helpful...... he goes to that on Tuesday.

Sandra, sorry to hear that Mrs. Mills is not doing better! It is good that she lives so close and that ya'll are right there to help with her.

What will they do about the floater? Leave it for now or try to remove it? Hope the meds help the pressure and you are seeing better soon.

Charlotte, I am sure you enjoyed your visit with your son! It is always so good to get to spend time with our kids! Kyle and Jessica and Kyle's girlfriend, Madeline, came home on Friday afternoon and went back last night. Kyle and Jess had a big organic chem test on Friday afternoon before heading home and they have a physics test tomorrow. We spent several hours at the daffodil festival yesterday and had a lot of fun. Then I grilled chicken and zucchini and stuffed jalapeno peppers and had green beans for supper......and I made a fresh apple cake for dessert. I was supposed to have had baked sweet potatoes but I forgot to start them in getting everything else ready - so we didn't get those! LOL..... I forgot to put my chicken breast out to thaw before we left yesterday so from the time we got home until I started cooking I was trying to "rush" the chicken thawing and that got me way off schedule. It was 7 before i got supper on the table, and then they left shortly after dinner. They went back so they could hopefully do a better job of studying and preparing for this physics test! They both need to do well on it, and neither really seemed to understand the part this test is over. The teacher doesn't really teach - and she is expecting a baby any day so she didn't hold the normal review session for this test.

Need to get busy and get a few things done today........I have been really lazy so far this afternoon. Guess I am dragging from losing that hour! :) Or at least I can use that as an excuse.

Have a great day everyone!

Sandra, sure hope Mammaw Mills improves soon! Check in with us as you are able. Hopefully, your eyes will be all better before you know it!!

Charlotte and Genna, it sounds like you both made good dinners--except for the stuffed jalapenos, Genna. LOL I don't "do" jalapenos in any form. :D My grandson Christopher can eat them right out of the jar--the hotter the better!!

We had a yucky morning weather-wise. It was overcast and damp but the sun came out after lunch and we made it up to 60F. Hooray!! We still have some ice on our sidewalk out front, though, because it faces east and doesn't get any sun in the afternoon. Hopefully by tomorrow, it will be all melted. I'm tired of looking at snow!

We haven't heard from Jeri. Is she back from Disney World yet?

Sandra glad to hear Mrs. Mills is doing better. It is so good that she is so close to you all so you can keep an eye on her.

It was a little overcast here today but still fairly warm. Sat Jeff and I ate brunch at a restaurant that had outdoor seating. We actually sat outside and I was very comfortable with just long sleeves.

Jeff said he is probably going to be able to visit a lot more often. He just recently got a promotion and his new job is going to require a lot of travel. If he is anywhere fairly close to Little Rock he can work out a visit here. He said he really likes the work he is doing and now that all the boys are going to be in college he doesn't mind the travel. I think he actually enjoys traveling some. He just didn't like to travel when the boys were growing up. He is actually going back to Monroe in just a couple of weeks. Not sure if he is going to fly in here or try to fly directly into Monroe. It will be nice to see him more often.

I think Jeri is back home. She is probably still trying to catch up and is probably tired. I'm sure we'll hear from her soon.

Marilyn, I didn't think I would like the jalapeno's either - but I sure do! I don't normally eat peppers - but I cut these in half and and strip all the white and seeds out and most of the time they are not hot at all....although occasionally you will get one that has some heat to it. This is the only way I eat them! LOL

It is wonderful Charlotte that you will be getting to see Jeff more often! I know that will be a pleasant change. Phone calls and skype are great - but nothing compares to one on one! Back several months ago when I felt like I hadn't seen Alex in forever and I took that day off work just to go see him and spend some time with him....I laughingly told him i had reached the point where I HAD to touch and smell him if only for a short while!! He thought I was crazy of course......but I was serious...... after a while you just NEED that! ^_^

I bet this is a great time of year to go to Disneyworld......... I know once all the kids are out of school it gets very crowded. Years ago the day after Thanksgiving used to be their busiest day of the year. Plus, the weather was probably really nice.

Charlotte, ditto what Genna said about you getting to see Jeff more often. I didn't travel all that much when the kids were at home, but my travel really took off (no pun intended) when they went off to college and got married. I guess things work out that way but you get to a point in your career where you have more freedom and time to enable you to take jobs that require travel and take on more responsibility too. So glad you will see more of him as a bonus to his promotion!

Genna I know you miss the kids right now. It's a busy time in their lives while they are studying and getting their careers and families started. I love jalapenos just like you describe. I'm trying to start some from seed but my seeds aren't cooperating. I think I got some bad ones from the company I ordered from.

Sandra, sorry about the floater. You may have had that all along and just didn't realize it. Hope Mrs Mills gets better with your TLC.

Can't wait to hear from Jeri too. Saw a few photos on FB. You know those kids ran them around and they are probably exhausted.

I am trying to plan ahead (gasp) and make plans to add more butterfly plants to my gardens. Can ya'll recommend some good basic plants that won't take over everything?? I know some of the milkweeds are very invasive and others aren't, but aren't sure how to tell which is which! Suggestions?

I do miss the kids, but I do pretty well just talking and texting them until I reach a point....then I have to SEE them in person! :) I get to see Kyle and Jessica much more than I do Alex ..... he has to report to the hospital almost every day even on Saturdays and Sundays in rotations so it makes it pretty difficult to get to see him. We went last weekend while he was between rotations because I knew it might be 8 more weeks before we got to see him again.

Echinacea (coneflowers) are always good perennials. Black-and-blue Salvia attract butterflies and hummingbirds. It will spread but it's easy to dig up and move and it's not what I'd call invasive. You can put it in a pot or just throw it away if it gets a little out of control. Scatter some zinnia seeds. They love those. I always have a bunch of zinnias come back every year and have to move them where I want them or thin them out. Almost don't have to buy new seeds anymore.
