Lol susie...did Mr Green Man eat any of them? If you would like: google Greenman to see the historic significance of him for your garden. Wickepedia has great info on the subject>>>>. I'm so glad he made that trip without too many booboos. Ya rather heavy for sure...was going to send another book but jusy not enough room in that box..lol. Sorry about that torn book jacket but thought it was still important to include (almost took it off). Truely..Amazon used books are a bargain for a few $$. And the inside looked great. You should find great info from both authors, and Heavenly pictures of fabulous gardens and how to s. Hope you find a few goodies to start also!!!! Merry Christmas!!!! Kathy

I've been laughing all day today, knowing that I finally beat the odds of something happening. Heck even the baking went great today.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Kathy I was going through the books last night & Didn't put them down till after 9pm They have so much Info & Beauty full gardens .
So much to look forward to this next growing season . a Little rip Cover dose not take away from all the great info inside & I'm A OK With Used books . Yes I will look up & Read about the green man as soon as i get back later this morning doc called & want me to go for a few more test this morning daylight is here so guess i better get going .

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Love the green man and all he symbolizes. Great boxes coming in.
Robyn, I understand about brain farts too. Put a crockpot of stew on, you know, peeling carrots and potatoes, cutting up onions, tomatoes, etc. walk away for the day and when Dave came in after work, I told him to grab a couple bowls and we would eat. He opened the lid and asked, "are we eating vegetarian?" I had totally forgotten the stew.meat!

I'm alll bummed out about my box. Well it went back to the Post office it first went to. But that's all it says.... Doesn't give me details about expected delivery. Well the "New Expected Delivery"...sigh. But Nonetheless still excited it's almost near :-)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

>>> Moved my seat.. so as not to lose y'all.

Kiowa, CO(Zone 5b)

lol heaven...
Kim, still a week til Christmas, so don't fret gal...
roux...wow love that greenman, where's that located.
Susie, ya, hoped you like what was on the inside more. And Martha's got great info and soooo many pix to boot, wish she would talk more about gardening on her shows but has changed her theme to kitchen and inside the house. She used to offer some great advise on tv til they began including a studio audience. And Pam Harper is a Perennial GURU...lol. Should be lots and lots of useful info in both.

Snow 'spose to come in over night tonight...even saying it might Blizzard. I'm ready!!!!!! Pix are what it looks like at the top of the world in summer, tho this area has seen between 2-3ft of snow this last week.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Kathy, he was at a Celtic Festival here in TX a couple years ago. Really cool watching him walk the site and pose with folks.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

That tree guy is kind of spooky to me.....looks like concrete but if he was walking around he must of been foam, amazing what they can do with that stuff.

Kim don't bum too much about the po still lots of time left, but I know you can't help but worry. I mailed on Friday at 9am early, main po, and they kept saying it would be there Monday, well Priority Mail® Out for Delivery December 18, 2012, 8:37 am! I know you shouldn't count the weekend end but that is 5 days..... but glad it is showing up hopefully today hopefully in one piece, I am sure they are moving lots and lots of mail......

Love that leaf face Kathy, did you make him? Too cool. Dang wish I would of thought of gardening books or magazines, love to read and reread those when it is cold.
They are promising us snow..... ;( I would really rather have rain, hate driving to work and home in snow....yuck. Mostly home at night, I can beat the folks in the morning but in the evening all the non-drivers leave work early, clog up all the roads, and then no one can get home. Suppose to be 55 today then drop down to 16 and have snow....crazy crazy weather.

Kiowa, CO(Zone 5b)

Happ...go to Amazon used garden books. I'm telling you just the absolute best!!!!!! They start from .01 to $3-4.00 ish. Just depends on what it is you're looking for. But really great ones for .01 EACH.....shipping is $3.99, tho, but $4 for books new that could be $40. Ya great..... Also my library has a clearance room, and there they are $1 papercover or $2 hardbacks, and have also gotten some great buys there. Remember goodwill usually has a section for a few dollars. I have sooooooooo much reading to do for things aquirred this way..yikes!

Gosh roux thought it was a carvinwith a little boy in front , duh! ..lol.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Well kathy I have started The Greenman LOOKING GOOD :)

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Did you all hear the big thud when Kim’s box landed on our porch? Oh my gosh, I am thrilled beyond words!
Everything was wrapped so pretty and neat, thought about waiting til Christmas to open…..yeah right, for about two seconds.

The small boxes held a beautiful pair of handmade sterling silver earrings and a matching bracelet with natural garnet semi-precious stones and glass lampwork Rose beads, just beautiful! These are simply amazing, Kim, I know you made them. The paper bag with the tree held a pair of purple gardening gloves, always much appreciated.
Next was a little box like you’d put a gift credit card in. Outside says Joy and inside were four lovely packs of seeds.

Stay tuned…..

The scented 'Frosty Peppermint Snow' jarred candle smells divine and is burning as we speak.

My ornament collection has just grown by two more. One is a Hallmark Keepsake with a Coca-Cola Santa ornament relaxing in his easy chair after the big night while a deer lays at his feet, and the other one is an adorable cuddly knitted Reindeer.

There’s more!

All that would have been a gracious plenty but the gifts just kept coming with two boxes of Yellow and Pink Daffodil bulbs, a box of Folger’s Vanilla Biscotti K-cups to use with our coffee machine along with an instruction booklet about how to reuse the cups for brewing. Last but not least was my card with a Dove, a book entitled ‘Garden Themes’ by Barbara Damrosch and a Garden Gate magazine.

Kim, what can I say except you went way out of the norm including so many thoughtful gifts I’ll use and treasure! What a fabulous job and was totally surprised to learn you were my Secret Santa :)

Wooohoooo!

Today I received a package from Joyce (happgarden) filled with Joy, Love, and Thoughtfulness!! There are no words to express my appreciation but I will say a Simple Thank You. I laughed, cried, and ate up the chocolate and nuts are gone. I probably shouldn't have done that... But at least I took a picture first! The cookie cutter and note attached made me laugh, the Santa night light made me cry...because I love nightlights and I have them all around the house. But none like this and it was as if you knew that? I will try to list everything because there is so much...

Santa Clause Night Light (glass/beautiful)
Christmas Movie Night decorated paint can (LOVE THIS!) it's filled with goodies
2 DVD Movies - Fly away Home & Deck the Halls (with Danny DeVito..who I love) Never seen either movie
Lots of Candies, Popcorn, chocolate
3 tins filled with Candy (MaryJanes and others that reminded me of childhood)
Cookie cutter with funny Poem - she made me cookies but ate them all...LOL Cookie cutter to make my own.
Pecan Chew and chocolate wreath (just a picture of wrapper because I ate that while I was still opening my gifts)
Aloe Socks (Made my day!) I was just saying I need to get me some of those socks...
Christmas Brooch - Love it! and Happy New Year Hat
Popcorn buckets - like the movies...The babies (4 and 5 yrs old) loved them and I popped corn and put it in the buckets for them :-)

Gonna post all the pictures...I think there is more then 5 so I'll post right after too :-)

Doesn't my package look like a bundle of Joy??!!

Fruity I made the jewelry especially for you...You said you like burgundy, had pierced ears, and wrist size! LOL. And I know you like flowers...ha ha

Merry Christmas everyone! I am so happy today :-)

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Love your goodies too, Kim. Happ always does a splendid job. Looks like you got Movie night, Christmas cheer and New Year's all wrapped up. That Wild Thing is a hoot!

(Zone 7a)

Kathy I did the Amazon thing for Fruity's package...I saw the book elsewhere and thought it would be good. But then I went to Amazon and got it for 42 cents :-)

I can't type sometimes...edited

Yup...Kim great books there...lol, just to let you know I have that same book. But I PAID FULL price for mine......was when it first came out. I got myself some specialty garden books this summer and was thrilled, I'm still eyeing 1...

And Kim what a wonderful package of goodies. DeVito is always great....Now ya just need a snowy nite...Blizzard warnings just came out for here, starting after midnight with up to 50 mile an hour winds and 4-6" of snow. Hey bring that movies on over....lol.

And Fruity, wow what a haul.....just to let you know Barbara's husband is Elliot Coleman (veggie gardens are his thing< and actually they are both famous authors). And Pam did such a great job on all the gifts.

Fabulous job girls!!!!!!!

(Zone 7a)

We've been been blessed with a mild winter...My daughter lives in South Korea and says it's about 9 degrees there everyday. I couldn't imagine that! The coldest night we had was 29 degrees...but didn't last long. My plants look great! Nothing has really died down to the ground from frost. Just the Daturas...and not totally down.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Would any of you be interested in older Martha Stewart LIVING magazines? The ones I have begin January 2000 and end May 2004. Most years are complete and several issues here and there were never opened and are still in the plastic wrap. Anybody want a year's worth or more for postage? Thought offering them by year would give more of you a chance. They will be sent Media Mail to help keep cost to a minimum. If you're interested, feel free to post here or Dmail me with LIVING in the subject line. First come, first served beginning with the year 2000 til they're all spoken for. Since this is the busiest time of the year for mail, I'll hold off mailing until after the Christmas rush. I'd rather offer them to you all before donating the lot to Goodwill.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh Kim glad you liked your box. Figured you could put on your infused socks. Plug in your night lite pop your pop corn and curl up Christmas night with your feet up and watch a funny movie then new years night or eve put on your hat and repeat the process.. but it sounds like I should of sent more goodies...rofl.

The little green cans make great seed savers once the candy is gone.

I must confess I wondered why I got the DeVito movie so reasonable at dollar general so while I was packing the box at work I saw where it said previously viewed! So I hope it works and just want to tell everyone cause I sure didn't know they sold used movies..

Have a great holiday.

O.K.--- not liking the looks of the tracking info on my buddy's box :( Took 3 boxes to the post office on the 17th and mailed them-- one of them being my buddy's box! Got tracking #'s on all 3 of them-- one says "delivered" today(right on schedule)-- one says in state it's going to with delivery expected tomorrow(as scheduled)-- and then there is my buddy's box------ says "acceptance" Sept. 17th at 2.23 p.m. & then "dispatched to sort facility" Sept. 17th at 5:28 p.m. and then NOTHING!!!! Says expected delivery date is tomorrow!!!! Called post office to see what they had to say and all they said was that is the only info they have on it and sometimes it takes a while for the system to update !! I am not a happy camper !!! Don't have any idea where the box is and how long it will be before it gets where it is supposed to be!!!! Thought that was what the extra cost for tracking was supposed to be about---knowing where your package is and seeing it get there on time as told!!! FRUSTRATION!!!!! Sorry buddy!!! Hopefully it will show up "SOMEWHERE" and get to you soon!!!

Kiowa, CO(Zone 5b)

Blizzarding here today, finally moved east...look out, 'spose to be nasty going to the east!!!!

in Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Shilrey,
I know how you feel . I mailed out my box on Dec 6 th. On Dec 12th,it said it was dispatched from Kansas City. My expected delivery date was also the 12th. They told me the same line. It takes the system time to catch up with it. I was told to call the post office after 14 days the box went missing, and they traced the box which is now the 20th. I told him if you can't locate the box now, what makes you think you can local it later. He didn't have answer. I been watching this box every day and nothing. I feel sick over this. I will have to contact the post office again today. I will contact my secret buddy today also. I will have to resend something else out . I am so sorry my secret buddy.
Patti

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Kathy your blizzard is alive and well in Missouri. Thought I was back in Colorado. Left home at 4am and got here at 6am. The first 30 minutes weren't bad at all and then we went total white out...... people in Missouri don't have a clue and were stopping in the middle of the road, and one guy I came up on was driving on the wrong side of the road! We didn't have much snow on the ground but with 50 mile an hour winds the blowing was horrible. All the guy had to do was look at the road down and he could of seen the weeds that were on the side of the road. When I passed him he figured it out. Suppose to have sunshine this afternoon, yes! We got lots of rain last night which was great along with lightening.

My package said it was being sorted up to the day it was delivered....think sometimes the computers get overwhelmed and the auto scanners don't read well....

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Patti and Shirley, my box took eight days to get from here to MO. Totally fell off the radar for six of them. But it did get there, I am sure that y'all's will also. Your buddy will understand, don't fret. (I did)
Man the front blew in during the night and I mean BLEW in. We have 38mph winds right now with gusts higher. My French doors in our bedroom blew open in the night, causing me to leap to my feet on the bed, wishing I hadn't moved my gun (TX thing). Dogs were going crazy, and all I could hear was the frantic banging of my wind chimes and the roar of the wind. Dave was still snoring next to me! LOL
Got everything sorted out and locked up the doors, let the dogs out for a bit, then as I am crawling back into bed Dave mumbles if it I am getting up. He was almost a casualty of the storm!
Will be light In a bit and i will have to see if we lost any trees.

Fort Myers, FL

Hi everyone,

I received two lovely books from Kathy J. yesterday -- such a nice surprise getting two separate packages! One was wrapped, so I'm saving it for Christmas. The other is a vegetarian cookbook I've never seen before that has lots of new and interesting things I'm excited to try. I've been a vegetarian for more than 30 years and collect cookbooks, so that's saying something!

I'm looking forward to the arrival of y'all's storm later tonight -- right now it's still in the 80s here but our high tomorrow is supposed to be the mid-60s and then 40s tomorrow night! That's Christmas weather around here :) We have a lovely yard-weed, Richardia grandiflora, that makes it looks a little like snow this time of year, but still it just doesn't feel right when you're sweating while decorating the Christmas tree! And certain types of cookies are IMPOSSIBLE to make. I'm off to plant some plants in the hopes that we get some rain tonight :)

Have a very Merry Christmas, everyone!
Emily (another newbie)

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

We were all newbies once and I, along with so many others, have you, Susie, to thank for taking a chance on us! All you awaiting packages you've mailed to be delivered, hold tight and trust that they will be delivered to your recipient soon. They always are even if we do stress over those that were either redirected or don't appear to have moved for days. They're still in the postal system. The concern you've shown is a credit of how much you care :)

Emily, my hat's off to you being a vegetarian. I tried that route years ago but still had a craving every couple of months for a hamburger, of all things. Must not have been eating well enough to stop craving protein. What's the secret to your success for so many years? Enjoy those cookbooks!

Ya'll in the Midwest be safe in the path of snow storms. Are any of you traveling for Christmas?

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

ty fruity We love getting others hooked on the fun around here don't we ??? Just got home from BINGO & Very tired tonight
so good night all our storms are to move in sometime tonight .

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Participating is an affectionate obsession, or maybe it's an addictive affliction. We are all such good enablers and I do enjoy the camaraderie of exchanging, many times not knowing who's sending to me. That's half the excitement and couldn't imagine a much better pastime.

Fort Myers, FL

No secret, I'm afraid -- I just never liked meat at all! It took me until I was six or seven to convince my parents, but once they let me try it I never went back. That's part of why I still collect cookbooks -- people have gotten much more creative in recent decades!

All of you in the midwest, stay safe! Here in south Florida, it is a sunny but WINDY day. Our temps should drop into the 40s tonight -- exciting for us! Should make my brassica patch happier too -- they don't enjoy sustained 80 degree days :)
