love the 'passionate rainbow' gaura, but mine didn't come back this spring. I think they like to put down deep roots and I was trying to get it to be containerized. (1)

My glossy abelia bushes are blooming away. They bloom for me in just a few hours of morning sun. Sure do attract butterflies! They will bloom now til first frost. They stay evergreen here most winters. (2)

I'm also trying some large containers of 'Sun Impatiens' in two different colors. They top out at 2'x2' and so far are not bothered by Impatiens necrotic spot disease, (3 and 4) They sure are thirsty.

Each week brings a new suite of plants in bloom.

Yipeee found 2 with color...except it looks like I didn't log this lily in my journal....hmph...now I've got to figure out her name. Her scent is amazing - the buggies apparently love her too. Gal #2 is growing by my office...such a cheery little thing

Your Lily looks like one of the Chinese Trumpet Lily "Regale". They grow 4-5' tall? yes?
Yes! Their scent will permiate your whole house.

These are the Lilies I so fell in love with when I went to Latvia--in 2008.

I have the "Alba"--but it is not doing a whole lot. Moved them last year--may just be catching up.

#1-My white Regale Lily
#2--the ones in a vase when we were in Latvia. SOOOO extremely fragrant!

Holly, not only are the Snaps showy long-bloomers, they are reliably perennial for us.

Chantel, Yes my glossy abelia is fragrant in moderation . like light honey.

Jen , I am not a fan of water crystals as they throw off one of my tests of when a plant/pot needs water. I found that MG with crystals was not a good mix for my many large pots of coleus and definitely not free draining as others I grow prefer...so, 'not worth it' to me.

As to the Sunpatiens being thirsty: they like all impatiens will droop and let you know they need a drink, but bounce back pretty well. The ones I'm growing this year were a special purchase item from Sams Club, 3 plants to a 12" hanging basket. I intended to separate the three and repot into containers but the roots totally filled the entire basket! Root bound there is little to hold any moisture and I don't want to use my large decorative containers just for Sunpatiens , so they will just have to make do with twice a dat 8counts of watering for now.

So sad that we may loose impatiens to Necrotic Spot and coleus to Downey Mildew and roses to Rose Rosette Disease Sigh

What you call "Sun Impatiens"--are they not called "New Guinea Impatiens"?
They like sun--but NOT the hot afternoon sun.

Very good plants--nice colors--grow to nice clumps--and are always thirsty.
Pop back from a wilted state in a matter of minutes.

I always plant some in the bed by the shed. They get various stages of sun as it passes over my trees.

BTW--our HD (and others too--maybe??) still have the 4" deep pots of "Proven Winners" annuals for $2.50.
Reg. price is $4.98. That is where you can get the New Guinea Imps. and also all the Million Bells petunias.
Angelonias---eic. Many other nicer annuals as well.
We also still have all the 6" (white pots--4 plants in each) sale of 4/$10. Reg. price--$3.33.
I pull the plants apart and plant them as individual plants. Comes to 60cents per plant.
I think they just got overstocked on the 6" annuals. People are not going for them as much as hoped.
I got a lot of nice Zinnias. LOVE Zinnias!!!

I just realized that i am posting a lot of plants that are perennial as well. Sorry--if I goofed!
However--all these are in bloom right now--and it IS summer---many of the pictures taken today.

For some reason the poppy seeds I sprinkled around in early spring are blooming like gangbusters and so many colors! May have to post this one photo at a time since the ones I chose never went through. These are basically varieties of bread poppies.

Seems to work if I send one at a time. Maybe it will take two!
