i'm always wary of giving details over the internet. they say it's safe, but...

I ordered seeds from Pinetree last spring, and, although I was pleased with the seeds I ordered, I was disappointed with their cart system. It was very difficult to navigate.

Otherwise, it was a good experience.

i do the majority of my ordering online. have had good experiences and bad. but the bad are out of business so hopefully the good will stay good. when you live far from any good stores and are lazy to drive or like to be different you need online stores.

I purchased plants from 2 online sites, but I called and talk to the owners in person.

Agawam, MA

I have previously ordered seeds, perennials, shrubs and roses online. I just placed an order with GlassHouse works for the first time for houseplants (haven't received it yet).

The one problem that I came across was with Springhill Nurseries - when I ordered online they charged me sales tax even though I live in a different state. When I called about it, they told me that their web service was based in my state, so that's why I had to pay tax - if I had ordered over the phone, they would not have charged the tax. After telling them that I didn't know about that (I even asked if I could cancel my internet order and replace over the phone), they still wouldn't give me credit for the tax. To top it off, the quality of the plants was not that great.

Midland, PA

I've ordered seeds, but not plants.

Never ordered anything online;plants or other wise. Wait a minute.I did order a DG coffee mug.

I have gotten seeds from threesistersgarden, and plants from Parks (ordered online) The parks order took forever to arrive, and not all the plants lived once I planted them. The three sisters order was phenemenal, they not only sent the seeds quickly, and did not charge postage, they included some seeds I had wanted, but which were not listed in their catalog, and those seeds they didn't charge me for!

I order almost exclusively online. Last year, I ordered from Park Seed, Bluestone Perennials, Caladium World, and Stokes Seed. All orders arrived in perfect condition, and no hiccups with their websites or shopping cart systems.

Ahh now I'm confused, the question was ... Have you ever ordered plants from an on-line company?, well no I haven't but I do often buy seeds online.

Most of the garden has been grown from seed or have come from plant fairs. The only mail order plants I do buy are from 'back garden' nurseries, the quality and service are usually excellent and they have more unusual plants too.

Harrisburg, NC(Zone 7a)

I have ordered from threesistersgarden, they have great items and service. Parks and Burpee are the ones I usually order from but usually from the catalog. Heirloom Seeds also have nice stuff, and the unusual older type seeds and plants that you can't find otherwise.

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

I have ordered quite a bit online.
The only problem I ever had was with Burpee their site kept freezing up couldn't navigate through it.

I have ordered through many places online, and also through EBay and Amazon. I have had mostly good experiences. There of course were bad experiences too. I will never buy from Michigan Bulb, or Van Bourgondien's perennials...sure VB replaced the stuff...with equally BAD stuff.
I have gotten roses from Antique Rose Emporium...usually high quality...the last shipment had black spot big time though. Still....you cant find roses like they have just anywhere. I have bought seed, and plants from so many I cannot list here. Wayside Gardens, Park, Rareseed, Johnny's Seeds, Bluestone Perennials, White Flower Farm, Logees, Hirt's Greenhouse and Flowers, Blossum Farm,..Wildflower Farms, Gempler's etc....

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

I have not ordered plants online, but I have ordered seeds, clothes, shoes, jewelry, photographs, books, toys, music CD and tapes, software .... plus I met my husband online!

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I order all my plants from online nurseries. I dont use the ones where you can buy everything including the kitchen sink but from specialist ones where the staff/owners know what they are talking about. so far I have never been let down on quality.

digressing a bit, I had a problem when trading with someone in GW who sent 3 plant cuttings in an ordinary envelope!! they arrived pancake flat after spending 4 or 5 days in the post.

I have ordered siberian and japanese irises from Ensata and White Mountain with very satisfactory results.I have ordered seeds from several on-line sellers with good luck especially swallowtail. Also bought my mantis mini tiller on-line direct from the manufacturer...love my mantis

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Ordered mostly from http://whiteflowerfarm.com and http://shepherdsseeds.com, all with great success, both in ordering, and quality of what I received. (White Flower Farm, and Shepherd's Seeds)

Cape May Court House, NJ(Zone 7a)

I have ordered from several online catalogs. (surprise surprise)
My favorite is 3sisters. I see that Linnea and cnclady have ordered from them too! They have huge divisions for plants and a nice selection of seeds too. They are the best you should all check them out. All seed packs are $1.00 and no shipping for seeds.
Plantdelights is another of my favorite's. They have a big selection of salvia (and hosta) and they are healthy plants.
The most recent one is Hallisongardens. I caught a great end of the year sale on hosta. The owner is pretty nice to deal with too.
I have a bad habit of buying plants on e-bay also so I guess I have no phobia's about buying on line!!!!!!!! sue

Oh, it is great way of purchasing..and safe and we have to be very careful of who we are dealing with..that's the operative word..who!!!! Buying roses over the web is great! No running around, driving in wet weather(gosh..I'm lazy these days!) Elaine

Howdy all! I order almost all my seeds online and I just placed a huge order for plants online from a strawberry farm in California. They shipped me 1,500 strawberry plants and they arrived in record time and in great condition.

Hello all -- I've ordered many perennials on-line, usually from specialists, with few disappointments (buy cheap, you get cheap, usually). Since I have many, many houseplants as well, on-line is the only way to go for variety, whether for seeds or plants. Glasshouse Works(amazing selection -- Tom and Ken really know their stuff), Tropiflora, Logee's all provide good plants and service. I've ordered many orchids on-line but usually from specialists. Check Orchids, the monthly publication of the American Orchid Society -- nearly all advertisers are reputable. For succulents, Mesa Garden, Arid Lands Greenhouses, Living Stones Nursery and Plants, Steven Hammer's Sphaeroid Institute -- all have provided well-grown plants for reasonable prices
Whether it's unusual hostas and dianthus or special house (or greenhouse) plants, on-line shopping, for me, is the only way to go.

Welcome 1601 and Patrick to Dave's Garden from the Sunflower State' Most newbies haven't found the "Welcome Mat" yet, so when ya get a chance drop by and visit with us awhile'' Enjoy' See ya,Sis'

Not yet....but I have been checking out a lot of sites for ordering for spring deliveries. I need so many things that I am finding it cheaper to just buy them than all the postage I spend on trades! Have to admit that the trades are more fun though!

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

I haven't order plants online..yet!
But I have ordered other things from the U.S...but it is expensive with the exchange on the money and the shipping. I
am an impatient one..so when I want a plant I just go look for it in the nurseries around my area. I like to see and touch..and let a plant "talk to me" before I part with my money. I ordered some plants years ago through mail order..
and was very disappointed..

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hey, how'd I miss this vote? Guess I didn't scroll down far enough Tuesday! My answer is yes: I've ordered plants from Etera. I was so pleased with their quality and their customer service. I was so sad when I learned of their bankruptcy and their dumping their founder; I hope they can pull out of it and continue operations.

I used to do customer service support for the company which owns "Harry & David" and "Jackson & Perkins", so I dealt with online order problems from the other side.

Does anyone here know of Nickolas seed catalogue, I have ordered from them this past 30-40 years, never dissappointed
Wouldn't touch ebay with a 10 foot pole for plants, they can't even figure out the names, so you never know what you are really getting. Most speciality houses are great, the names on the plants are actually what you get. Some are very tiny, barely rooted, but named correctly. Some are very slow, when you order they grow them. One must be very patient. Many the order is mailed out in the next mail.
People that are forums are not in business, they haven't been trained on how to mail out plants. Norma

I was leary about this firstly, when I got wind..gee..one can order over the WEB!!!! well, having done this and doing it..it's a sure way, not to have to drive there, stand there and go thru all the red tape..I have found that ordering my roses thru here is fantastic.. procedure..order, and wait for them to come via Greyhound Bus. Pick them up and Bob's your Uncle!!!! (seeds, from South Africa, Xmas stuff..there are secure sites out there! Elaine

Valley Village, CA

I have not had trouble with the sites not being secure, I have not ad trouble with my address being sold. These are ethical people, or they would not have been in business this long. I believe the Eastern mail order bulb places sell your address, so you will continue to get catalogues from other nurseries. I have not ordered from anyone in Cal. but they may also do the same.
