A big snapper along the road. My son will pick up almost anything, but he wouldn't attemp this guy. I don't know if he could have lifted him anyway.

Found this gal on a walk in the woods. We disturbed her meal of fungus, which is still hanging out of her mouth.

A young red newt.

Before everyone gets upset, my son has been taught:

Which animals he can pick up and which ones not to
For the more agressive ones, to be ready to be bit and if you get bit, don't rip your hand out or throw the animal. It's a chance he is willing to take
To be gentle with them
To put them back where he found them
To wash his hands when he gets back home
He has been bit by garter snakes, crayfish, bugs, etc., but it hasn't slowed him down
He knows how to tell a poisonous snake from a non
etc.
etc.
He loves animals
His name is Asa

I wouldn't let that slimy thing crawl on me. He watched it crawl around his hand and arm for over an hour! He needed a shower after that.

Black Rat snake, almost six feet long. When startled they make their body all kinky and mimics a rattlesnake by shaking his tail real quick in the dry grass and leaves. This guy did both. My son was at a friends house and wasn't home or I would of had a picture with him holding it.

That's a big ol' snapper right there!!!! Your son reminds me of myself when i was his age. The grace of God that I lived this long, because I would catch and pickup critters and bring them home...such as snakes, lizards, baby coons, opossums, skunks, etc. Your pics bring back a lot of my childhood memories, Thanks.

My wife doesn't mind snakes as long as they don't startle her in the grass.
