They're bending over so you can sniff 'em.

North Pole, AK(Zone 1)

Pollyk...is THAT why they do it???...Never thought of it that way but will from now on...LOL.

I need to report a garden problem.
Us ladies must have had a disturbing episode like this when bending over lilies to do the weeding.
Its called B F (boob flop) I wish I had reall money for the buds that have been broken off because of this.
I realize a sportsbra would help, I just cant find them( havnt looked really) for my frame.

JoAnn, I followed your URL and your pictures and yard is beautiful. I would love to post pictures here but it takes so long. I have a facebook account that I rarely use. I guess I could post there. I like to see how others combine flowers like your diathus, astilbe, etc. Am working on that now. Plus the question of 'to use bark or not to'. I had some down when the yard was first redone but after a year it looked awful. Big chunks of it. I guess I could get the smaller ground stuff. It would mix into the soil easier.

picasa is always an option.. I upload there when there are too many to post here

Jo Ann, I've lost a few to the BF too, but BB (big bottom) is my worst problem. LOL

Here's one I'd like to ID. About 3 ft tall and just a nice little medium pink with spots.

Picasa is free from google.Try it.
Like Allison said its so much easier to make an album that post 12 images plus the lables if you choose to use them.

Mulch is the question of the ages.
Its all up to your taste.
There are drawbacks to all types. I like the natueral wood mulch but we use free mulch from our town. Its the xmastrees we leave by the curb plus other heavier shrubs and trees thr town grinds up.
It had big pieces that stay on the surface for years. Some people rake those off before they re apply the next mulch. It doesnt last forever. We apply it aevery 3 years.

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

I just rearead this after lincolnitess's comment thinking I had missed something. Did I ever! ROTFL. I don't have those problems, though the 'frame' increases each year and my stiffness in neck, back, knees have caused a zig when a zag would have been healthier for my plants; I guess you could call it BF (big foot).

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Ohhhh kraps I have those problems too.

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

If I ever get my garden stable (is there such a condition) then I would apply mulch, but I have so many small plants and I plant annuals in the back beds also. They go in sooooo tiny and in weeks are great big, but that first few weeks they need plenty of room so as not to get trampled by BF, or pulled as a weed. I fear the mulch would bury them. I know our xmas trees are collected also. Wonder who grinds them. We had a mulching place but they were shut down by the city; finances I think. They did a wonderful service turning junky stuff into good soil and mulch. The city should have paid THEM for their services instead of taxing them out of existance. Our government at work.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh, my gosh you guys! LOL!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Dont make me go there!
Our mulch isnt the greatest but its free,we pay a guy to deliver, there are large pieces of wood in it.I found enough large pieces to use for kindling for a month in winter, crate slats etc.

Yeah, but there is a lot to be said for FREE. But I see what you mean. You would think if they are going to go to the bother they would do a better job. HA just doesn't seem worth the effort.

just hate that

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

It might have been a nannosecond after discovering this last spring ,that I photoshop all images from nurserys.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Not purple for sure, but it's beautiful, and a good color echo with the echinacea.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I had read in posts of gardeners who grew echies, that some varieties reverted. I have Green Envy and one from the Sky series that are going purple-ping.
Anyone have this happen?

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

The first of my "Acapulco" lilies opened on Saturday.

I can almost smell the perfume. It looks a lot like stargazer and starfighter.

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

They are all very similar - and yes, the fragrance in the garden is overpowering. Here is a newer introduction - "Salmon Star".

Beautiful. You know, that might be one of the NOID's I found last year. I get some at year end from Lowe's and haven't been very good about leaving labels on them.
