Several years ago a friend came for dinner and, knowing I'm a gardener, he brought a blooming lily plant, instead of the usual bottle of wine. I planted it in the border and each spring it is the first of the lilies to bloom in my garden, a sweet reminder of the friend's kindness and thoughtful gift. This morning it opened for 2011.

Hey, that kind of looks like mine! lo

I am sure mine is one somebody sent me and it just never bloomed until now.

Very pretty, nanny...love the orange

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

What a lovely present, and how thoughtful. A bottle of wine would be (however pleasantly) gone. A lily is a present that lasts, especially in your hands!

And they do look as thought they both have the same blazing color.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Those are very vibrant. Very nice.

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

I bought this beauty at Home Depot last year to have a mid-size lily at the front of the bed. I'd forgotten what a lovely bloom it has (and, of course, I tossed the tag, so I don't know the name!).

very pretty nanny! A friend of mine from work gave me a box of lillie bulbs a couple years ago. The box was so heavy I could hardly care it. Was so much funny seeing what blossoed from it the next year, this is one.... the color is so pretty. Just wish they would last all summer!

That would be nice....It is fun to watch them bloom! I have had some sent to me that they weren't sure who they were so I am waiting to see!

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

To me, the beauty of flowers is their 'temporary' nature - you catch a glimpse of exquisite perfection and it lasts but a moment. Carpe diem!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Probably a lot of truth in that Leawood. If there were there all the time it would get so we wouldn't really 'see' them anymore.

This white Asiatic lily opened today.

Nice I do not think I have any yellow one. Some of my bright yellow ones opened today... ;) Nice to come home too.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Although this isn't my first. But this bloomed today.

Really pretty Bev! Lost all my tigers.....I have lost a lot of lilies with the virus and some just not coming back.

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

I love the tiger too - I added 5 this spring, but so far, no blooms. That's a great setting Lily_Love!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

So sorry Nanny about your lilies. Here are my Tigers. I have too many. BEV

Nanny, your first one looks like Matrix to me. Is it a short one? I love it's brightness. Mine is so short the daylily leaves next to it almost cover it. Needs moved.

Latvia is going crazy as it always does.
Sorry about the weeds. They are getting out of control.

My favorite so far this year is a new one called Freya. It starts out a nice yellow then fades to white with yellow edges in a couple days.

lincolntes.
I have Starlett just planted bulbs in April.
All your lilies are beautiful.
Weeds here are worse than last year.Too much rain

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

Lincolnitess, your lilies are lovely. As for weeds, it's just like my garden - I don't see 'em! BTW, the daylilies you sent last fall are all over the place. This was the first to bloom - do you recognize it?

LOL...I think you are right...and I think you sent it to me!! You sent me some and there was one you weren't sure of who it it was!! It is about 2ft maybe....not tall by any means. Stands just above the Barbara Mitchell daylily leaves that is in front of it.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

LG, that sure looks like Special Ovations. I dont't remember dividing it last year, but I sure might have.

Nanny, I don't think I sent any Matrix, but your could be this orange one that has bloomed around here for a few years. I think it might be Orange Pixie. The one behind it is Mount Negro.

Lincolnitess, it must be very rewarding to see the things you've shared blooming in others' gardens! Gardeners love to share, and you're a wonderful gardener!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

And a very generous one, too.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

It is fun to be able to share plants with others and I have many too that others have shared with me. You blowing Bubbles prolifs look like they are going to bloom his year.
