Hello friends,

I've been hanging around here for a few weeks. I live in Central Mass and keep some flowers and veggies. This year the gardens are betters than ever thanks to the new husband on the property. 8-) We've fenced in a good sized veggie patch and are growing corn, beans, summer and zucchini squash, a dozen or so toms, basil, potatoes, eggplant, peas, celery, broccoli, peppers, strawberry, pumpkin, melon, carrots, beets, radishes, and tons of herbs and flowers. The bed out front has turned into basically an all-perennial bed, and in front of the porch we've got bulbs (got to move the hostas there this August to cover the dead and dying next season). Another bed out back is mostly annuals from direct seed (morning glories, zinnia, cosmos, lupines) that I hope will self-seed, along with some verbena and lantana as place-holders while they grow. I've got a grassy bed with liriope, zebra grass, and some more lupines and morning glories (probably there's nasturtium in there too). And this past week the husband put in a nice brick walk out front that I surrounded with celosia and portulaca, with a little pink vinca, salvia, and begonia for good measure.

I lean toward organic square foot/wide bed devil-may-care gardening. I tend to trellis with oddball sticks and strings, and you'll be hard pressed to find regimented rows of anything here. I've been gardening "forever" and am an amalgram of all the techniques I've tried and read about over the years. Somewhere between rustic/cottage/hippy gardening, I suppose. It's very nice to meet you all and I look forward to finding some nice smart friends here!

Yes, I do spend pretty much every spare minute outside. This weekend was a bummer!
