"THINK SPRING!" seed swapping discussion for Feb. 26 swap

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Holly--

Pretty Purple Pepper is part of my seed collection.
I will have plenty....took seeds from them last Fall....

MUST wear gloves when you do this--they burn!

Sally--

I have several kinds of Columbines--but--some of the seeds are pretty old.
I have collected these from my neighbor's bed. She has a pretty one---
Maroon and red or yellow....not sure...
I have the Winky Purple and pink also. Pictures are in my Trade List....

Jill--I'll take some sweet pepper seeds in my goody bag....NOT hot ones...
A few tomatoes--something I don't have....Can't think of anything else.....
Hoped I would have my bed all ready--it hasn't even been started....
Bummer.....

Getting close! I am looking forward to this.....Gita

Holly, the variegated ornamental pepper is one I got in a trade; I haven't grown it.

Gita, I'm glad you've got extra seeds for Pretty Purple Pepper -- love that one in container plantings and along my front walk, and I didn't manage to save seeds last summer, so I don't have a lot of extras to share. If you want a particular variety or type of tomato, let me know and I'll snag a few seeds from my stash -- otherwise you can roll the dice with a mixed pack of seeds (all favorites of mine that did really well in my garden). :-)

Check out the straw bale gardening forum.. I think trying straw bales might give you a solution for this year, and if you get the bed built like you want it later on, you can use the composted bales in your new bed next year.

Jill--

I was just reading about the straw bales on Soil &Composting...
That is quite an 'operation'....

Jill--I got a mix of your favorite tomatoes last year in my goody bag.
Haven't planted them yet..
Also traded with someone recently and got 3 other heirlooms.
You should see her list!!!
I'm good on tomatoes....As it stands--I only have room for 5 .

Don't worry--I got lots of seeds.
Feel free to grab some extra baggies of the Purple pepper
when my box comes around...

Man! it just hit me!! T%he Swap is this saturday!
Glad i am ready....:o)

Thanks for the columbines- everybody!

I also have an ornamental pepper- which I originally snatched at Jills first Septmebr swap couple years ago. Mine has purple leaves (now) with a few flashes of white- it may have orignally been more variegated at Jill's.

And I just found another small seed box- I'm afraid to look.

Critter,

I'd love a cutting from your Alsobia cygnet.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Froggy & Holly, I'll chop up one of the hanging shoots for you.. that will give us a bunch of little leaf clusters (like baby plants that don't have roots yet) to propagate the alsobia. There should be enough for 1 more person... :-)

My big orchid cactus pot has a home! Hooray!

Looks like my plectranthus & Sallly's "pig's ear" could both yield some cuttings... houseplant population is "down" here, so I don't have as much variety to offer as usual! I will put a couple of "special" cuttings in rooting vases for the gift table.

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Jill, count me in a for a Cygnet cutting, too. Thanks.
