I have heard the soil in OK is very hard, clay and rock?
Can I grow bamboo there? Will it thrive? be invasive? ect. There is not any rain during the summer usually and dry air, temps over 100. We are thinking of moving there. One of the things I am thinking about when looking at a house to buy is the privacy/fencing. I was thinking of bamboo or something similar, tall and thick to screen out neighbors.
bamboo in southwestern Oklahoma?
Most of the bamboos that will be hardy there are runners and would need root barriers if you plant them. There are some hardier clumping species but you might have to look a little harder to find them. Bamboos aren't really drought tolerant plants though, and many of them would do better with a little shade especially in hot temperatures like that, so I think there would be other types of screening plants that would be more suited to your climate.
ok, thanks, that helps me, I guess I will rule those out!
