I laughed so hard at #24! My kids resist and argue about wearing their helmets, despite regular blows to the head, but for some reason totally understand the need to wear a cup. LOL

Romance versus Love

The romance has gone out of my marriage. Instead, there is love.
Romance used to say, "I'll do absolutely anything for you," but love goes a step further and says, "Yes, and I'll prove it."
Romance is fleeting, but love is long.
Romance is flying, but love is a safe landing.
Romance seeks perfection, but love forgives faults.
Romance anguishes as it waits for the phone to ring to bring a voice that says sweet things, but love is the anguish of waiting for a call that assures you someone else is safe and happy.
Romance is suspense, anticipation and surprise, but love is dependability.
Romance is dancing in the moonlight, gazing deep into desired eyes, but love is saying, "You're tired, honey, I'll get up this time."
Romance is delicious, but love nourishes.

Well-wishes to SW. Get better, girl! (((hug)))

"The passage of time in prisons is not in a cell of brick and mortar but in one of hopes dashed and tragedies un-averted. How precious, then, the chance to go back only to discover that in facing the past you must face up to yourself... that exiting the prison of time doesn't free you from the prison of your own character... one from which there is no escape."

First of all I would like to offer a prayer for the health of our beloved Jules/Singing Wolf. Please get better soon! Now, I am beginning to feel a bit "under the weather" myself...I hope not so bad as SW.

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE...

Election Cake

30 quarts flour, 10 pound butter, 14 pound sugar, 12 pound raisins, 3 doz eggs, one pint wine, one quart brandy, 4 ounces cinnamon, 4 ounces fine colander [coriander] seed, 3 ounces ground allspice; wet the flour with milk to the consistence of bread over night, adding one quart yeast; the next morning work the butter and sugar together for half an hour, which will render the cake much lighter and whiter; when it has rise light work in every other ingredient except the plumbs [raisins], which work in when going into the oven.

Wow! I wonder how many people this will serve?? LOL!!

Wow, that's a big cake!

Thanks for all the well wishes. I am hoping I'm on the mend.
They do have Mac laptops, but they call them note books I think?
Does anyone remember reading Mad Magazine in the 60's? Well they used to have a thing called, "You know you are growing old when . . .
You are drinking Ensure, on a regular basis.
I am, and while I don't particularly like the stuff, at least it seems to help some.
I really loved all the quotes and poems, great stuff! : - )

Here is my real quote for the day. It somehow seems appropriate.

Welcome back, SW!!! Mad Magazine...boy, that brings back the memories. LOL I loved the little bits along the edges by Sergio Aragone.

I found this little poem...

When I Am An Old Cat

"When I Am An Old Cat I shall wear
a diamond collar and leave my footprints
on white couches; I shall drink my cream with
a touch of brandy and spit out my vitamins;
I shall sit on the laps of dog people
just to irritate them; I shall nap on top of the
neighbor's petunias and perch on top of
birdbaths and grow charmingly chubby.
But for now I must tolerate the dog
and use my litter box and not sharpen
my claws on the sofa, so no one can doubt
the truth that cats are superior to dogs.

But every once in a while I wonder
if I should be naughty now and then
and nip a few toes, so my humans
won't be too shocked when suddenly
I become an old cat and
start to wear a diamond collar."

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Wow! Our cat is almost 20 years old...no diamond collars for her. We keep her outside, though if she occasionally stays inside on the coldest nights, she never makes a mess or scratches anything but her bedding and will go outside to do her business. We keep her in the basement during the night all winter, then if it is warm enough make her go outside.

Apparently, she's not old yet.

my old dog wants to hear a doggie version, anyone have one? my cats are young and just annoy her !

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

A song from Mad magazine. Sung to the Marine Corps Hymn.

From the ants in my petunia bed,
To the crabgrass on my lawn,
I will fight them off with chemicals,
Till the bugs and weeds are gone.

We will use quarts and quarts of poison spray,
and we won't stop till we're through!
Now the ants and weeds are dying now,
but the plants and trees are too!.

Some little ditty that I felt was so contrary, that I have remembered it all these years, but then again I am a Marine Corps brat, so the tune stuck! LOL!

Loved the poem Kwanjin. : - )
Sweet kitty, evelyn. Mine seldom reach age 10 due to life on the farm and the ever present coyotes. Maybe the new fence will help. Only the ferals stay out at night. Can't sleep unless my girls and Buddy Holly are in at night.
BTW, when my EB#2 got married, they had a ceremony in the backyard, of their ministers house. During the ceremony, their cat left it's paw prints on her satin wedding dress train. I just cracked up. Seemed fitting for my family. LOL!

Glad to hear from you Deepwater. Does this mean you are home again? We had some problems with folks not being to pull up the last page of this thread and have moved on to the link posted just above your last post. Just click on it to join us. We miss ya, guy!

Thanks SW. Actually I'm back at work, but I still check in with Dave's everyday. I just can't post photos because all camera's and cell phones are confiscated when we arrive. It's not because of unwanted photos, but because there's a similar concern about electronic interference with instrumentation that the airlines have.

The Caspian Sea is starting to get into it's winter weather mode, so I'm in thermals for the next four or five months. Unlike Baja where winter means putting socks on with your sandals...sometimes.
