Today, I was :"hunting" birds with my 40D and 400mm lens when this Silver-spotted Skipper Butterfly caught my eye.

So, I grabbed my other 40D with its 100 mm macro lens and took this pic.

Hi burn. Yes, it is a moth larva. It will develop into a Geometer Moth. What you have is commonly called an "inchworm', hence the name.

I don't recognize this one, but its markings are so distinct, someone should be able ID it. I'm curious as to what it is. I'm still looking around my references for it. As you said, it is pretty.

Hack, your small monarch is a Viceroy. See the more horizontal stripe across the hind wing?
And Burd you've got a Red-spotted Purple. Love those.

Oh...another one of the little duckies!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, Burd, I'm pretty sure it's a domestic. ;-)

Nanny, it's really not eating as many mosquitoes and bugs as my last duck!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Well...may have to go if it can't pitch in a little bug control! lol

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

It's probably to beat to eat, after a long walk to the pond. He just need to rest for a bit. So happy he found your place.

Anyone interested in starting a new thread?

Hey, mama, that pretty viceroy is Burd's, not mine. :-)

And thanks for ID'ing that Red-spotted Purple for us.
