This is called rattlesnake weed. I don't know why.

At around 3,000 ft, Boney Mountain is one of the highest points in the Santa Monica Mountains, which are very nice but I don't consider them real mountains.

Thanks for the new thread, kelli~
The photos are so nice-the lupine is gorgeous.

(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the pics, Kelli. Always enjoyable to go on your rambles.

I found out that rattlesnake weed was used as an aid for snake bites.

Thanks, interesting

Springboro, PA(Zone 5a)

Partly Cloudy 43° F Beautiful weekend here--plenty of sun and moderate temps. I've been fighting the head cold from hell the past few days but managed to get some pruning, raking and other clean-up done.

Kelli.......You're in full bloom there-- I especially like the lupines.

marsue.........You are well into spring there. I have 1 crocus blooming and other things are beginning to peek out of the ground.

dyson.......breaking sod with a small tiller is no easy chore. I don't envy you.

rusty.........your raised beds are looking good!

Photo: I've wanted some copper topped post caps for my sitting garden but was too cheap to pay the $50 to buy them. I was at a HD a while back and they had some on clearance for only a $1 a piece. They were for 5" posts though, an odd size I've never seen around here. I adapted my 4" posts to accept them and they worked out quite well. I like the bigger size because they stand out better.

I forgot to wish everyone a HAPPY SPRING!!!

I love those e_b!
GREAT Look!
Like you I'm too cheap to pay full price....lol!

There are about a 1/2 dozen plants called either Rattlesnake Weed or Snake Weed.
All were though to help... none do..... :-(
I found the one Kelli photographed (Euphorbia albomarginata)
years back when I was researching a plant we grow called
Rattlesnake Master Plant (Eryngium yuccifolium).
It too was thought to help w/ Snakebite.

Mache is pretty funny. We grow it for it's blooms.
Never could ID it.
Then someone in England finally gave us the name.
Seems here and in most areas it's cut for salad greens before it bolts.
So no one knew the flower.

Rusty that's a good looking Project!!

Pepper THANKS for keeping the snow for us!!!!

We were out in shirtsleeves again.
The rain still hadn't moved in.
Just starting to drizzle now.
It's still 60°!

Our neighbor took me over to Lowe's and we picked up the subfloor and wall sheathing today.
Thought that's all we'd get done.
But the weather held up so the base is now plumbed and the sub cut.
Tomorrow looks like a rain out so we won't get the floor glued and screwed till probably Tuesday.

Lots of new blooms today.
The first is a hybrid Pulmonaria I've been nursing for a few years.
Love this bloom.
If you go counter clockwise from the red/coral bloom that's the colors it goes thru w/ each flower.

Some of you are digging in the soil and greeting green and growing plants. Today DH began chopping a path through the
snow on the lower deck.
Was in the high 30's*F this afternoon~normal for this time of year.
Sunset will be 8:14.
ric~the project looks great. Belated b'day greetings to your father.
E_B~your project is beautiful. Love the copper.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, the boys went home yesterday. I stayed up till 8:00 pm before going to bed, and I still slept in :o) It's a chilly 28° this morn! Looks like the mid 50's all week. I'm reading, but can't comment on all.

Mau, we haven't seen Friday for a while. He's looking dapper!

Darius, I love your winter names!

Pepper, I'm glad your nephew is OK!! Glad your Dad won't flood for now.

Ric, you have a great looking Dad! I agree, he does not look his age!

Rusty, you really got hit with the snow!

Celia, love the hawk! They have made a come back around here.

Pepper, we did not get you or Rusty's snow. Our layer melted already. You have my pity.

Kiska, you've come into Spring and Frank looks great! Love the snow dog trying to climb on the porch ;o) Ahhhh, moose :o)

Kelly and everyone, love the new blooms! I still only have crocus.

Early, how lucky to get the copper caps at that price!! I love copper roof on the bird house I have.

Kiska, oops, you and Frank still have a ways to go till Spring :o(

Dyson, I hope you got the garden tilled up before the rain. Hope you aren't overdoing anything!

Where is Sharon? I hope all is well with her.

I had to laugh at myself. I told the Grandkids to come wash their hands and one of them hollered back, Wait! I shot back with Weight broke the wagon. I didn't get it when I was a kid either, but Mom used to say it.

Yeah, they look innocent :o)

Well the front moved thru last night and dropped some serious rain for a time.
No violent weather, though I did hear a rumble or two.
Just gray here today so far.
Looks like low mid 60's today. Sunny and the same tomorrow.
After a VERY Cool Jan/Feb we are now running 10 higher than average.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Kelli, I think rattlesnake weed is the neatest plant I've ever seen. I have to keep looking at it!

Jackie, love the shadows on the snow! Great news about Frank, he must have had enough of those! Cute moose, coming with mommy to find something to eat!LOL
Sally, those goat babies are too cute and your babies too!LOL
Kelli, great pics! I have the winter vetch on my field too.
Celia, lovely daff!
E_B, good choice of that fixture for your fence!
Ric, thanks for the info about muscari. I also found something interesting about their bulbs which are looking so much like garlick. They say the Greeks are eating them. Love your blooms. The alpine rock cress seems so much like aubrieta, only it's white.
Here's mine blooming... not a good picture, sorry!

Hi Everyone:
Weatherwise: it was a dreary, cloudy day in the low 40's with a raw feeling to it.
Now: 41 F, 63% humidity and light rain, no wind.
Rain forecast through tomorrow night. It is needed.

Love to see pics of the goats and other "kids" and the project with the copper caps - they look great.

Kiska: I was going to ask if you still have snow, but I know the answer. When can you plant outside? How long a growing season do you have? How much daylight are you gaining each day. Right now we increase by just over 3 minutes a day.

picture is a dreary day on the beach.

Thumbnail by ledgegardener
Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Rusty you could plant Rice!

Adina they do look a lot alike.
Is aubrieta evergreen?

Well the Weather Liars really blew this forecast.
Supposed to be 62° we barely broke the mid 40's.

That IS a cold dreary beach shot!
Beautiful though!!

Hit Lowe's and HD today.
More wood, a new ceiling fan for the Kitchen and new lights.
The LED under counter puck lights are in.
Tomorrow we'll work on the other stuff.

Ric

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

It got all melting so fast today... Good!

It remind me of Wizard of Oz as the witch said I'm melting!

(Zone 3b)

Mostly cloudy; 34*F;
Isolated snow showers in the evening. Lows in the lower to mid 20s.
Wind 10 to 20 mph.
Sunrise was 7:50 w/Sunset at 8:17 this evening.
Gain of 5m 51seconds today.
adina~that purple blossom is gorgeous. Glad to see there's an end to the winter you've had.
legergardener~I love the look of the misty ocean view. "Official" planting day is Memorial Day in May; except for root veggies, nearly everything planted has been started indoors weeks earlier. Carrots and radishes, in the soil, from seed, do have time to grow to maturity. The season is short, intense and with 24 hour light, grow non-stop. Mid-late August ends the growing season, but harvesting pototoes, carrots goes till early Sept. Cool weather crops are grown here. Normal summer temp is mid-60's w/cool rain frequently.
This link has info about the veggies. Paragraph four features our friend, Scott Robb. (Giant veggie grower)>

Gray day here, too. Overlooking frozen pond-we live at the base of the mountain in the distance.
