Anyone have a lily wishlist for 2010?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

B and D has a photo gallery of some of the new MAK lilies coming out. Along with some other beauties.

Killer... I need more real estate!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

OMG As I was reading down at this early hour ,I noticed comments about Midnight Dark Purple Lily.Guess I am in for a surprise there.
I planted it with Golden Splendor but if iy's pink I will have to dig it up.
As I was looking at Mal intros on B&D it occured to me to replace the pink Midnight with an orange something.
I dont trust purple pictures anymore.
I'm off to Plant Files

Good luck, Jo Ann. It's really easier to plant in pots until they bloom to be sure of the color before planting them permanently instead of having to replant. It's what I have been doing instead of direct planting upon delivery.

Pirl, what a great idea.

My lily wish list will be a reality before the Midnights bloom in July. This is my solution to the midnight problem if it turns out to be too awful with golden splendor and a NOID Melon colored lily.
The melon lily is in the lower right pic.It hangs out under the Golden Splendor. It has been very slow to grow and has only 1 stalk with 1 bloom.I have no idea what it is.
Just checked the collage and the Melon lily is under the other NOID that was supposed to be 3 Copper Kings. When B&D makes a mistake they really goof. They made good on it.

There's always the Pamela Harper solution - cut off the offending flower (with no more than 1/3 of the stem) so you can enjoy it inside just in case it's as bad as you seem to think it might be. Then be sure to mark your notes where you'll move it in the fall.

Another great idea.

So simple but something I probably wouldn't have thought of myself. Thanks, Donna.

If I end up with a NOID that I need to replace, I often give them to local gardens. Every garden needs the beauty of lilies and it's a great way to share the love of lilies with others. Much of what I grow in pots are given away to share the beauty! And you wouldn't believe how happy they are to receive them ;)

Two years ago we donated about 100 daylilies (yes, I know they are not lilium) to the local church for their gardens to honor the late parish priests. Donating plants is nice for the gardener as well as the recipient.

pollyK, that link where they discuss their test period was interesting to me. I noticed they test in LA. Maybe I should contact them and invite them to test in Richmond, TX.

That's a great idea Vossner. Please ask them if they will test in Hannibal, NY, too, while you're at it.

I only want one kind, but lots of it - Starburst. It's orange and white and Buggy Crazy carried it. Now I can't find it. I love it.

I think I've bought mostly all of what is new (for me) for this year, and I never met a lily I did not like. Despite the scent, I prefer orientals. Put in some OTs last year that were absolutely divine, and have purchased some more this week. Also bought a lot of zantedeschias (callas) but don't know if they are true lilium.

If I find a little extra cash, I'd love to find some yellow stargazers. I've had great luck putting lilies in containers.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Do you have any pictures of lilies in containers?

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

Window box containers for some. 35 gallon containers for lilies. Also other large containers have lilies on the bottom with early bloomers on top: hyacinths, tulips and/or crocus. For the window boxes of lilies that were gifts, I threw in a surprise zantedeschia (calla) which only added to the beauty.

The bottom left window box is anemones. If you want your container lilies to be happy, never put just one bulb into a container. Apparently one IS the loneliest number.

I have learned to jam as many as will fit flat.

And they reward with lots of blooms. I think we must be related.
