snow poetry #2
I am still hoping to actually see some snow!
Last night tho it did get down to 2 degrees and water pipe to hot water heater apparently froze. Fortunately it did not take long to thaw it out! yeeeks.
Thanks, Dave.
No snow, just ice.
It isn't nice.
D.H.'s car wouldn't start so he took mine. Stranded on the ice! Guess I'll see what I can do around the house. Saw the big, fat neighbor kid ( who is probably at least 20 years old by now) trying to walk down to the corner in his baggy sweatshirt and basketball pants. Even the young athlete was sliding on the ice. Ha!
Hi, Kyla. Hope all is thawed.
Kyla, there are advantages to having snow within a short driving distance but not on your street.
Where's the poetry on this new thread?
It seems that snow is in everyone's head
We have snow here
And cold I fear
My garden is looking completely dead
Poetry is in the hearth
Keep yours burning brightly
Good to have snow,
good not to have snow.
I have a choice, though,
for just some snow.
Not too much bad snow,
only that good snow.
You know,
the snow that looks most sparkly in the glow
of whatever light a star might throw.
Oh, YOU know,
THAT snow.

Okay, here is my annual does of poetry:
It is nice when snow is in the air,
until you have to go somewhere.
and then if where you have to go
is all covered up with snow
it is not then so nice, oh no,
but do you think it cares, the snow,
about how messy cold it is to go
for you in all that cold and blow?
Oh, no, it does not care, the snow.
At least it does not laugh or crow
if down you slip and down you go
because it just does not care, that snow,
not for you or Jane or Sam or Joe.
Not for anyone, oh no!
It might as well be ice, that snow!
In unrhymed blank verse,
It isn't snow that makes one fall
It is ice.
Just put me up there with TS Eliot!
Yup, I like it.
A cold white blanket
Sometimes covers the city
Quiet and pretty
Very nice dparsons. You are better at rhyming that I am.
There are some things that just aren't nice.
One is Ice and the other is Mice!
I've said this once and said it twice.
Another thing that's bad is lice.
It's really all just a roll of the dice.
Rice can be plain or eaten with spice.
I've said enough, this will suffice.
" It's not Exactly about snow, dear.," says D.H.
Yes, but it is about ice and it rhymes.
and you can use the ice
to freeze the mice.
Roybird sounds like DH is feeling a tad partypooperish today?
Thank you! He thinks he is a better writer than I am. But, he only writes important things. He still claims "it is not about snow".
wonder what an important thing is?
IMO good writers don't often make that kind of distinction...... but then, whadoo I know?
;-)
Poetry has never been important. That is a good thing. If it was important somebody might want to regulate it. There are certain subjects and certain words that are deemed important. As long as you don't include those you are fine and the regulators won't try to keep your poetry out of the schools.
Being a poet is almost as disreputable and frivolous as being an artist! WoooHooo!
roybird, your DH obviously isn't aware of the Rocky Mt. Forum rule that says anybody can talk about anything, no matter what the stated topic. Probably you should fill him in on that.
By the way, your writing seems just fine to me. I have never read any of his, so I can't compare. But I figure that as long as I get your gist, you are a good writer or at least a good enough writer. Perhaps not T.S. in the class with T.S. Eliot though.
I think Dr. Seuss gives TS a run for the money!
For a snowshovel, I have no room
I just opt to use an old pushbroom
don't got pushbroom but got a rake,
got food and coffee and even cake!
And the cake was even not baked by me!
So here I stay most happily.
Meanwhile the snow still falls and falls
and floats and wafts and covers all
the birdseed in the tray outside
but under the eaves, that tray is clear
so even more birds are feeding there
and I can watch them from my chair!
I like the snow when all is well
and snow can cast its peaceful spell.
I like the California quail
With snowy dust on it's cute little tail!
Sweet!
Neat!
Okay,
all the birds say,
let's eat!
The world around this beautiful place
Must be left by me to go to the busy race
Of Scans, tickets and the removal of shoes
I have chosen to leave and look north to lose
The comfort of my family and the warmth of home
To the worries of Santa and his reindeer's bones
I head north to the pole where Santa awaits
My arrival with hope of each reindeer's aches
To make healthy the famous one's Flight
On a trip through the world on such a special night.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AS I LEAVE FOR THE NORTH POLE.
Take good care of those reindeer!
Contented Zerbeebee got back his TV
And he's been watching it with glee
The Direct TV guy last Saturday came by
And he pointed a dish at the sky
At our house the cables run under floor gables
And their connection the TV enables
The TV guy's belly was likened to jelly
So it was "Dad" who enabled the telly
One mild disappointment as Dad made a statement
The amount of TV watched has a limit
But not to disdain, Zerbeebee didn't complain
Seems the lesson of the dog was quite plain
^_^
TV for free
can be quite a glee
TV earned
is a good lesson learned
roybird adds:
TV earned
don't get burned
which is neat
she's everso street
