I took this photo July 19th. Guess it does have more than 10 flowers at a time and this shows the northeast exposure - there's even more on the opposite side of the trellis!

Your platycodon looks nice too (at least that's what it looks like... to the left of your clem). I can't wait until my clems produce a show!

This is SO pretty. Just look at what we have to look forward to, BG. I looked this up and some photos make it look more red--others a magenta. I may give mine a prime spot in front of the house, or maybe I'll plant it in the hole I dug next to the Semu's. It would probably bloom earlier than Semu, but if they were to bloom at same time, Ernest would look good next to purple. Agree?

Thanks, Evey. It has become a very lush plant since I started cutting it back ruthlessly every year. That is/was platycodon but it was the right plant in the wrong spot so I moved it.

Sharkey - I'd guess it's the weather that changes the color from a medium reddish to much darker or a bit lighter (as shown in the photo) but it would look good with purple or with one that has a similar stripe.

These were the first blooms this year on June 26th.

ernest is an ususual color. it looks old fashioned to me. i have it planted with huldine, rouge cardinal, pink cameo and there is a small liner empress in the the mix that will take a year or so to have anything to add to the show.
ernest did bloom with huldine this year.
sharkey, everything looks good with purple, but i accidentally have it all white /pink/rouge as the above indicates and it is nice. they do not all bloom at once.

ernest does seem for me to die back after blooming and therefore gets some whacking that probably keeps my bloom cycle a little modified.

right now i have a problem, i have 000's of photos unlabeled. too complicated to explain why. until i go thru and sort and label not as easy to grab a photo, which is why i have not been posting as many pics. but this is huldine and a glimpse of ernest together this year. and right now i am on a new mac air (hubbie got the other mac air) and i seem to have to export the photo to my desktop to be able to post it, not as fast. gotta figure that out too.

The size of the EM blooms amazes me. I love these photos so much that I'm willing to take my chances with him, especially since I've already purchased it.
