Does anyone here grow any really big bamboo? I just recently read up on bamboo, and was amazed at the sizes it comes in, clumping versus running, etc. I'd like to hear from anyone growing a clumping bamboo in zone seven.
Giant bamboo
I don't think that large clumpers are hardy in zone 7. You could check the species lists at the American Bamboo Society.

I'm in zone 7, I have a large bamboo, suppose to get 5 in, in diamenter, not there yet, a long way to go. This is the 3rd year for it. Planted in a very dry spot. I misplaced the name so can't tell you the kind it is.
The nursery I got it from is in Morrilton , Arkansas. They have aboute 30 different types. A wonderful place to visit, a minature forest of bamboo.

There are 5 bamboo nurserys in Alabama and they should be able to give you info for your specific location.
