Carolina Gardening: Tree and Fruit Question, 3 by Entlie

It bloomed profusely in the spring, and now has small berries on it. She asked me what it was, and the closest I can come is a serviceberry, but googling the blooms don't look quite right. Does anyone know what this is and if the fruit is edible?
