Comments regarding Tomato Growers Supply Co.

After reading the company ratings on this Dave's Garden website, I chose to order seeds from two companies. One of which was Tomato Grower's Supply Company. I ordered toward the end of Jan. 2010 and it took 8 days including the day i placed my order for me to receive all of my 8 seed packages of tomato and pepper seeds. The seed packets probably averaged 35 seeds per packet along with a freeby packet which i will give a try in the garden. I will followup with the germination rate.

I have ordered from Tomato Growers several times. They offer an excellent variety of tomatoes which are grouped in a very shopper friendly way in their catalog and on line. The only problem that I've ever had is that my Cherokee Chocolate turned out to be Green Zebra this year. The company said that they will send a replacement for next year.

I would recommend that anyone consider looking at Totallytomato.com as they carry a similar range of seeds which tend to be 50 cents to a dollars per pack less expensive.

I've had good luck ordering from both of these specialty tomato seed companies, but will probably order from totallytomato this year and save some money.

I placed an order from their very interesting web site, and received the tomato seeds, along with a bonus packet of seeds, very quickly. Very satisfied, and will order from again.

I bought celebrity tomato seeds from tomato growers two years ago and only tried to grow them this spring. They germinated very well but when they were about 10 inches tall all of the celebrity seedlings developed leaf mold. My other tomato seedlings grown from even older seeds from another company were all fine. I called the company and tried to tell them that their seeds could very well be contaminated with leaf mold. The customer service person tried to look me up in their database and that took FOREVER. Then when she finally found it, she asked me if I wanted refund. I told her that I didn't really care about the refund but I wanted to let them know about this leaf mold contamination possibility. Neither she or the person supposedly in charge of seeds were particularly interested in my findings. I won't buy from them again unless I can't find the seeds anywhere else.

my seeds arrived in just under 3 weeks which is fine - it is the busy season - they were nicely packed in a quality paper packet with a open & close resealable feature which I enjoy - I do wish they had some pretty art work - but the seeds grew nicely - packetpete is happy with TG

As with some of the other feed backs I did experience slower than normal delivery this year. I recieved no verification so I called them for a heads up. The woman was very nice and explained to me that they are about a week behind due to the spring rush. This is understandable, since I usually order in the fall for my indoor garden. Now, It would be nice to get some online verification via email, ect... and you may think this should be a negative review, but let me tell you why it isn't. I have had very close to 100% success with the seeds from here. There are SOOOoooooo..... many strains of peppers and tomato to choose from, ...and get this - I found some of my old seed stock bought from there dated from 2002, and decided to give them a go for kicks this year. 100% germination. I would never have thought that seed that old would still be viable. ...and it was 15 different strains of tomato and pepper, not just one or two seeds.

Anyways, I feel that they are worth the wait. :-)

I've been ordering from TGSC for a few years and based on my experience, will continue to do so. I placed my order on March 7th, received an email confirmation that day, and received my seeds March 21st.

Since many suppliers are being inundated with new customers and increased demand, I expected a short delay with my seed orders this year, especially since I placed my order over the weekend. I normally receive TGSC orders within 7-10 days, but the 14 days it took this year doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

The order was packed well, shipped in full, and came with a free bonus packet. The seeds have been sown and are showing good germination, including the bonus seeds. I have no complaints.

I have ordered from tomato growers every year for the last 5 years. I have been very satisfied with all the varieties offered and have had great luck with the seed germination and plant growth. I placed my order in February and it arrived very quickly. I recommend this company from repeated positive experience.

Count me in as another whose order took 3 WEEKS to get here. I called and followed up and they said that Internet orders take longer because they have to be entered into the computer. What????? Isn't the point of internet ordering that it is faster because it is all computerized? Maybe they need to update their software/system/procedures for ordering. If not, this needs to be in BIG BOLD letters on their site (there is one sentence on one web page that says that for fastest ordering, fax in your order, but I had to look for it, after the fact). Also, no email order confirmation? No email that my order was shipped? I believe that most internet consumers do it on the internet because in almost all cases it is faster and more accurate for both parties involved--- in this case, it seemed to be the opposite.

I will say that they have a great selection of seeds, and we will see how they do, but at this point, my seeds are going in 2 weeks later than I planned on and I am not so happy about that.

It has taken 17 days after internet ordering to receive my seeds. During that time I made two phone calls to try to track the progress of the order. One service representative gave me incorrect information. Now that I have received the package, I find that one of the four packets is incorrect. I am very disappointed with the service this company has provided. I am hoping, however, that the seeds are good ones. I will update later based on subsequent experiences.

I get all of my tomato seeds from this company. I have personally talked with the owner of the company, and I found her to be extremely knowledgeable, informative, and considerate. I have had great germination results from their seeds even when left in the refrigerator for a couple of years. I will continue to use this company for the source of my tomato and pepper seeds.

Great selection, and high quality seeds in my experience. It's fun to look at all the varieties and helpful descriptions. I've have good germination too. Recommended.

On February 10, 2009 , I ordered from this company. To this date on February 25, 2009 I have not received my order despite receiving an email on Feb. 11 stating that my order was received and would be shipped. I have sent several messages to this comapny and have not received a repsonse regarding my order. i am hoping to at least get a response letting me know when to expect my order.

I've ordered 10-40 varieties of tomato, pepper, eggplant & tomatillo from the company each year since 2002, amounting to more than 100 varieties total since then.

Only once has there been an error in ordering. Their website and online ordering are easy to navigate. Seeds come well packed and in a timely manner. Postage is reasonable.

The print and web catalogs are both well-done and attractive, with an easy-to-read chart for bulk orders describing how many seeds of each species can be expected per weight ordered (# of seeds per 1/4 ounce, for example).

Customer service has been generally professional and courteous.

Catalog descriptions address each variety's unique characteristics without unnecessary exaggeration, and give a good working idea of what to expect from each variety's growth, fruit set, uses and taste.

I purchased 6 varieties of Tomato seed and 4 varieties of Pepper seed from Tomato Growers. The order was shipped in a reasonable amount of time, they had everything I asked for in my order and about 90% of the seeds germinated.

I experienced a very low germination rate with the Ivory Egg variety. I don't believe I experienced loss on any of the rest of the seeds, there may have been one or two. I was very impressed with the quality of seed this company sold me.

Definitely recommended.

Browsing TGS' website is such a breeze. I particularly like how the tomatoes and peppers are categorized.

Ordered a tomato collection and bells from them online. Received my order promptly and accurately including free seeds. I used seeds from several different companies this year and by far Tomato Growers seeds performed the best. Initially I had germination issues with my bells but that was entirely due to my learning curve and not having enough heat on them. After getting their temperture up a bit I had near perfect germination rates. The plants themselves were of high quality and true to type. I already have their 2009 catalogue and will order more from them this year. Thank you Tomato Growers for my best plants!

I have been ordering from this company for the last five years. I usually order close to 5 varieties of peppers and 5 varieties of tomatoes. They have fantastic varieties, with excellent germination rates. This year’s germination rates were over 98%. I have never seen this with other companies I order from. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants the unique varieties of peppers and tomatoes.

Moreover, the seed viability was very high. I ordered a number of tomato varieties as well as some peppers.

My 2008 order came complete and in a timely manner.
Most of the 18 varieties of tomatoes and peppers have had a good germination rate.
All in all, I would recommend them to a friend and in all likelihood I will supplement my season with some more seeds from TGS.

I have ordered from Tomato Growers Supply for several years, but my most recent experience was sort of annoying. I ordered, among other things, a packet of Aji Dulce pepper seed and Neves Azorean Red tomato seed. I received two packets of the Azorean Red and no Aji Dulce. I called and was told that the pepper seed would be mailed to me. I asked if I should return the extra packet; the customer rep said yes. I returned it with a note of explanation but my pepper seed never did show up. Only one seed packet, but still it rankles, especially since the company's customer service number is not a toll-free number.
In the interests of fairness, I should repeat that I have ordered from the company several times and usually have loved their products. Apparently I just caught them on an off day.

My wife and I ordered a ridiculous amount of tomato, pepper, and eggplant seeds. The pictures and descriptions were too good. Seeds arrived, were planted, germinated incredibly well. Suggested improvements: notification of ship date (did notify that order was received) and other shipping methods available besides USPS, not that there were any problems. All in all, an amazing variety of good quality seeds at a very fair price. Great catalog. We look forward to making our next order with them.

Another "new" company that I found through the Davesgarden website. I am amazed at the varieties they carry and am equally impressed with the high quality website. Delivery was very quick for an international order.
Random seed counts showed easily twice the minimum number of seeds listed on the packets. The seeds look clean and intact. Hopefully I will have a chance to update later with germination and production info.

Placed two orders last spring and both times received seeds within a week. Germination rates were 90%-100% on 18 cultivars. That included some, such as the Micro-Tom , which can only be considered curiosities and can't be great sellers. Glad there is a company which stocks such an assortment. 2008 catalog arrived today with some interesting additions. Be ordering eggplant and pepper as well as tomato seed from TGS this year.

I've ordered from TGS for the past three growing seasons. Since I usually order early in the fall, I assume I'm getting last season's seeds and have never had any germination problems with either tomatoes or peppers.

Any company selling contract grown, open pollinated tomato and especially pepper seeds can have some cross pollination issues, but I've only had two wrong seed plants out of dozens of varieties I've started from TGS. Both wrong seed plants made some very interesting and good results ... so that just added to my experience and enjoyment.

I've called TGS on the phone a few time and Linda has always been business-like but cordial. When the 2007 catalog offered Chapman tomato, I ordered early but got back-ordered. Linda sent me a cheque for the amount of the Chapman seeds, but I wouldn't even consider cashing it after all the good service and product I got from them in the past 3 years. A month or so later, the Chapman seeds arrived which probably cost TGS more for postage than what they made off the seed sale.

I still have their refund cheque in my record drawer just in case I'm starving to death and dead broke next year.

Just would like to give the folks at Tomato Growers Supply An ATTA-Boy or Girl for the fine service given on my order for 2007. Initially I tried to order online but on their dropdown for country listings they didn't have Germany. Gave them a call and they said "No Problem" put your address in the remarks section and the rest is history. Received my order in 5 days. Super Service. Amideutch

I really hate to relay negative experiences, but I hate to see my fellow hobby growers meet with disappointment and ill treatment. I bought multiple packs of seeds from this company. One out of many packets did well. The others, even the free pack, had a terrible rate of germination. A woman named Linda is the manager apparently and I personally found her to be extremely rude, and far from accommodating. I felt really taken advantage of and would never buy from them again if they were the only seed company in existence.

This is my second year ordering from Tomato Growers, and I have been very pleased with quick shipping, and excellet germination. I have always been in the habit of planting extra seeds to compensate for ones that don't germinate, if I do that with Tomato Growers seeds I wind up with a bunch of extra plants! Awesome! My husband loves the variety of peppers (hot ones) each year we have added new varieties to our order. Great company to deal with!!!

This is my second year ordering from tomato growers supply. Last year, I was pleased with my order of tomatoes, peppers, and tomatillos. The germination rate was good and the plants did well. This year, I added a bunch of eggplants to try out.

I will order again next year as they are fast and accurate. About the only down side I can think of that they do not send out an order status other than a credit card billing email. I never know for sure they have shipped the product until it arrives. But two years in a row, it has arrived within a week (OK since I'm across the country) so I'll stop worrying about whether the seeds shipped.

Very fast shipping! From ordering to actually having seedlings sprouting was barely over a full week! Also, very, very good germination - nearly every seed planted sprouted, and that was after literally just tossing them in some soil and leaving them alone. I planted extra to account for germination problems and I've ended up having to give away some seedlings!

The germination rate of their seeds are incredible! Even the polish heirlooms. Since they are all seedlings as this point I can't say much else, but if anything happens it'll be my fault, not theirs. Excellent job Tomato Growers Supply! So glad to have chosen you for my 'first time' with tomatoes.

This is the 2nd yr. I've supplimented my commercial tomato order with these guys. They are pleasant EVERY TIME I CALL, THEy ask if I can accept treated seeds and they PROCESS IMMEDIATELY(UNLIKE SOME BIG CO. Ive ordered from them 4 years in a row now. They DO know tomatoes, and i have always had luck with germination and growth. I love the grape tomatoes and smaller varieties they offer! I often find that even unused seeds from the year before, will still germinate as well! Good quality!

I order from this company every couple of years as they get new varieties in. They are always quick and accurate with my seeds. Great germination rate and I don't have to worry about them mixing up the variety. They know tomatoes. You get a bonus packet too if you order a certain amount! These people are keepers!
