I ordered four pecan trees, and received them last week. I ordered the smallest trees they offered as I wanted the tap root to be small, and to develop in my own soil. With larger trees the tap root can be damaged during digging, which lowers survivability.

The packaging was excellent. The trees were bigger than what I ordered. I was initially concerned the tap roots may be damaged, but all four trees had intact tap roots and good feeder roots. To my surprise, PMG included a free fifth tree - a Creek pecan. This was one of the types of pecan I had considered ordering, so was very happy to see it was included as a free tree! This was the only tree to have some damage to the tap root, but can't complain as it was free.

The prices were also very good - especially for pecan trees. I also like that they offer several different sizes at varying prices. This gives the buyer more options.

I also spoke with PMG a few times. Everyone was always very helpful, and willing to answer my questions.

Overall, I'm very happy with the trees, the price, and customer service. I received bigger trees than ordered, a free tree, and all at a good price.

After receiving a couple of more orders from PMG, I must change my original rating.

I was initially happy with my first order. However, I have now planted 8 trees from PMG. Of those, only three have survived. That is a dismal 37% survival rate. I have planted hundreds of bare root trees, so I am very familiar with planting and caring for them.

I ordered again from PMG this year because I needed to replace my pollenizers that died. I received that order yesterday, and inspected the plants today. All three trees had approximately 50% of their tap roots cut off. Pecans must have an intact tap root, and if cut off, will have a low survival rate. As such, I expect these three trees are also unlikely to survive.

I could ask that the trees be replaced, but each replacement tree would cost 50% of the cost, plus shipping. It wouldn't be economical to keep replacing these trees.

I will say that the times I've spoken with folks at PMG, they have been very nice and helpful. But I won't order pecan trees from them again.

A GardenWeb member saw the posts included below that were reported to be from the business's own computer. That member wrote the company to ask from their response. Apparently they had been a regular customer and felt betrayed. The response was as follows:

"We have a computer in our offices for public use. We are in a very small town and many / most local customers do not have Internet. Some of our first customers used this PC for reviews. Later when we were informed that any review from these computers would be listed as internal, we stopped asking and or allowing anyone to give us reviews from this PC. So do not be too distressed.

R.R. / PlantMeGreen"

So, apparently the owner of this company expects us to believe that people in his town have their plants delivered all around the country by FedEx and then travel back across multiple states to his little nursery with it's special computer just to give positive reviews that are mostly written as if the same person wrote them! Beware! Be very careful about doing business with this guy!

I called this company looking to find out the sizes of their persimmon trees. I asked them to send a photo if possible. They quickly responded and sent the photos. But I never asked them to pull the plants from the field and take them to the warehouse and prep them for shipping. All I wanted was a picture of the plants in the field so I could see the quality of the plants I could expect to receive. The plants looked fantastic and I was going to purchase them, but had some questions about other types that might be available in the future that might not grow so large. When I sent a note requesting further information I was dropped like a stone. Apparently they are only interested in a sale, not listening to customers and answering questions. It is very unfortunate as now I feel unable to order from them due to not purchasing the plants that were inquired about. Too bad as their plants did look like they were worth buying.

On June 10th, 2015, Fishman1 added the following:

The fact that no attempt was made to contact me after that correspondence only shows that it was a take those plants or do not ask any questions situation. Even though further information or clarification about availability was clearly asked for. No further response will be made on this issue.

I decided to change my rating to positive because I did not actually purchase anything from PMG, and therefor should not influence the way a man runs his own business . Even if I was not happy with it.

Changed due to lack of reliability.

Dear Phil,

He is a copy of the email (less the 4 pictures I sent). That was sent to you yesterday afternoon. A few hours after you requested pictures. I did expect to actually just take pictures in the field / on the nursery, but it was pouring rain out and I was getting soaked, just picking them up. Anyway here is the email again.

Phil,

It is pouring rain out, so I brought the 3 plants in the warehouse to take some pictures. They are attached.

NY / Long Island qualities for free shipping on all orders over $100…. If you use a coupon or discount that takes you under $100 the free shipping will not work, you will need to purchase something else….. get a bigger plant….. or just not use the 10% discount. Look at the DIEHARD for $2.50, it is a great price and almost at our cost.

These exact trees will stay in the warehouse for a while (it is storming out) and can ship today if needed.

I hope this helps,

I pasted it exactly as it was sent to you (again without the attached photos) and without your previous email asking for pictures and if shipping would be free to NY.

Not sure why you think the plants were prepped for shipping.... they were brought inside because it was storming out and I could not photograph them in the rain. We have 1,600 acres of nursery. If, I run them back out on the nursery (in the rain) and the customer (you) then orders them. I have to go back out and get them and may not get the same ones (we have usually 100's to pick from). It looks like you are angry and I am not sure why. Everyone wants the sale, but I truly felt like I was helping you and going above and beyond the norm. I will try and see this from your view and will add another line to my email for the next customer with a similar request that says something like..... "These plants will go back out on the nursery after the rain lets up." I can assure you, that you miss read my intention and I am sorry for that, please accept my apology for toughing one of your nerves or hot buttons. It was absolutely not my intention. If you feel, like you want to discuss this on the phone, please call and talk to me. My number is 850-270-0511, I am here from 9-5 most M-F. Sincerely, Richard Roccanti"

I ordered 3 apple trees. When they arrived it was a scorching hot day and the trees were wilted in the box. I certainly understood that was outside of their control. I called them to let them know. There was an answering machine and I left a message with my name and number. I went ahead and planted thinking they might bounce back. I received no call back from the company. After a few weeks it was obvious they were not going to make it so I called again and again got an answering machine. I left my name and number and again no call back. I waited a week and informed credit card company of the situation and they reversed the charge. Then I got a call from them. Quite rude. Of course they just sated their policy, which included informing them. They did not seems to understand I had left messages without a call back. The customer service person said they did not want my future business, which of course was not a possibility.

This was my first time ordering from plantmegreen. I liked the options they had online and I got a lovely crape myrtle. I ordered it on Monday and their website says they ship M-Wed so I thought I would be getting it in a week because they would ship it by that Wed. They sent it out the following Monday (1 week later) and I live in WA so it took 5 days to get here from FL.

The reason for a negative review vs a neutral one was two fold:

1. I assumed they would use faster shipping because it was wilted when it arrived 5 days later (obviously)
2. The plant was forced into a box that was about a foot too short for the tree. An 8" portion of one of the branches was broken and all the other tops of the branches are bent. If I ordered a 3' tree, I'd like to receive that entire specimen instead of the top being bent and broken due to poor shipping practices.

I have planted the tree now and hope it will recover next year but I don't think I will order from them again when there are so many options. order #343908

Dear edawsey,

#1 - standard & free shipping from FL to WA is 5 days - you did not contact us for advice - you choose "standard / free" shipping - you can choose 1 day or 2 day options also from our site. Why would you assume we would ship it faster if you choose ground?

#2 - The crape myrtle was shipped in a 4 foot long box. You ordered a plant that is listed at 2 - 3 feet in height. You say "If I ordered a 3' tree, I'd like to receive that entire specimen..." You received a tree much larger than 3 ft, if it was in a 4 foot box and you say it was still 8 inches taller than the box. We should have pruned the extra tall branch in question and apologize for now requiring you to prune it. "
