Comments regarding A Nearly Native Nursery

I ordered two hard to find maple-leaf viburnums from A Nearly Native Nursery. They were very helpful via email correspondence. I received my shrubs the next day after my order and they were very well-packaged and a good size for the price. They've been in the ground about a week and they are leafing out and looking good. I would definitely order from them again.

I had been wanting to order from this company for awhile and finally got around to it a few weeks ago. They were the only seller of the plant I wanted. I contacted them by phone and the person who answered was very helpful. I asked if they sold the plant in a larger size that was not listed and they did, it was just the right size to ship and in bloom as well. Shipping was fast and affordable. The plant arrived in great condition and I was very pleased with it and its over all health. Great company to deal with and I will be ordering again from them in the future.

Fantastic selection and customer support! I have ordered from Nearly Native twice and had a great experience both times. The plants arrived as scheduled and in excellent condition.

Nearly Native Nursery was very helpful, and the plants look great. Because I ordered in late fall, everything is dormant, so I'm anxious to see how the plants do in the spring. I'll try to remember to come back and post an update then.

I have purchased plants from Nearly Native Nursery as a mail order customer but this was my first visit to their retail location.
They have so many plants for sale that are not even listed in their catalog and the specimen garden of about 4 acres showcases plants that I have never seen growing anywhere.
I only wished that I lived closer to visit them more often.

We visited the nursery since we only live 90 minutes south and it was well worth the trip. We were able to get Red Buckeye Trees no one else carries for our fall planting. They have a vast selection of hard to find plants in excellent condition and a variety of sizes. The owners are very knowledgeable, they spent a lot of time with us and you can call them with your questions. It was a wonderful experience; we will definitely be back for spring planting time!

This nursery not only has a fine selection of native plants, but they have excellent service and quality. When I ordered my plants, I included information about the site where I was going to plant some of them, and Debi e-mailed me to point out that a couple of those I had chosen would not be good candidates for the soil type in that site. My plants arrived very carefully packed (not half out of their pots as in the case of *some* nurseries I could name) and in fine condition, well rooted and a good size for the price. I am still kicking myself for ordering, from another nursery, three redbuds at what seemed like the bargain end-of-season price of $12 each -- that is, until three ill-nourished-looking things arrived half out of their 3" pots. Sheesh. For a few more dollars, $24 each to be exact, I received redbuds in 3 gallon pots from Nearly Native Nursery and they are MUCH healthier and larger, altogether a better value. I also appreciate the detailed plant tags, which not only provide the plant name but also the type of site and light each plant prefers. I will definitely order from Nearly Native again.

I want to first say, this is a truly outstanding nursery. I've never seen such diversity in native plants. I received magnolias and sassafras from this company with absolutely no doubt in my mind they would fail to grow and flourish. It is very refreshing to see a great alternative nursery not propelling all your non-native species of plants and trees that you see at your typical garden centers nowadays. The plants I received where healthy and robust. The owners Jim and Debi are very friendly, knowledgeable and aim to please. I am not surprised they hold a place in the watchdog top 30.

This company has a very good variety of native plants, the quality and condition of the plants are excellent, the packaging for shipping is superb, and the customer service is outstanding. They are at the very top of my list of companies that sell and ship native plants. I recommend them to anyone.

I live in the Atlanta area and was lucky enough to visit this nursery just south of the city. Jim gave me a personal tour of their garden, which is a fascinating place with a outstanding selection of natives. I'm looking forward to their upgrade to their online ordering so I can take advantage of the great inventory of hard-to-find plants. I was looking for a male Possumhaw Ilex decidua, and Nearly Native Nursery was the only place with this plant in stock. Highly recommended.

The nursery is a lovely place to visit, with mulched paths and containerized plants grouped under large shade trees. The owners, Jim and Debi, are very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The plant selection is excellent and the plants are healthy and well-grown. It's a great nursery!

My stepson recently moved into a new home in Fort Mill, SC and while visiting I was helping him design his new backyard and garden. He had his sights set on a Sassafrass tree and none were available at local nurseries. The tree was a gift, so after researching on line nurseries I decided to order from Nearly Native Nursery. Ordering was a breeze and I could tell by talking with them they were serious about the care of the tree in shipping which I appreciated. The tree arrived after left but was reportedly packed extremely well and is a healthy specimen. It is now in the ground and will hopefully thrive. They kept me updated throughout the process which is appreciated.

A great ordering experience from start to finish. For some reason Pinus palustris was hard to find via mailorder until I found Nearly Native. Moderately priced, fast shipping, packed with great care. My small order was handled with professionalism.

I've been trying to obtain all the American hickory species to plant on my new property, which has required quite a bit of research... Nearly Native was the only nursery I could find that had Sand Hickory seedlings available. I spoke to the owner over the phone and it was a pleasure talking to him. The seedlings and shipping were very reasonably priced. They waited a week until the plants were more dormant to ship but you can see the buds on the seedlings indicating that they are still viable. The roots looked very healthy too. Very happy I found Nearly Native!

P.S. I think there is a post somewhere about some individuals looking for sand hickory as well.

We are big fans of native plants of the southeast. After seeing the NNN website we made a wish list and planned a trip to their location in Fayetteville, GA. The trip was made a few days ago, and it was well worth it. We were wowed by how many native plants they have. Jim was our very knowledgeable guide, and we selected more plants than were on our list. It was a fine experience, and we bought plants that we couldn't possibly have found in our home area. It was enjoyable doing business with Jim and Debbie. Jim spent a lot of time with us, and provided so much interesting and helpful information. We will definitely be return customers.

I had been aware of this nursery for several years and finally had the chance to visit during a recent trip to Georgia. This nursery is a gem and it was great to meet the owners Jim and Debi Rogers. Jim is remarkably knowledgeable, pleasant and generous with his time and knowledge! The nursery is chock full of southeastern U.S. natives and select forms of many - many of which were selected and named by Jim. The gardens are a work in progress but nonetheless enjoyable to stroll through and there are many mature specimens of the plants offered for sale. Prices are very reasonable especially considering the rarity of many offerings. I will definitely do business with NNN in the future and hope more people "discover" this great nursery.

A visit always seems welcomed and interest and curiosity are well rewarded. Leave yourself plenty of time to browse and be prepared to go away with more than you anticipated :). Well worth the drive from Dublin. Customer service and selection will most likely exceed your expectations.

Wow! This company is the best! They have over 900 plants. .. You will probably talk and order with the owners. They are great. They will tell you if that plant will work in your area. The shipping price is very very fair...the way they are shipped is awesome goes beyond what you image. They are wrapped by a person with notes to the carrier and little notes to you. They will be wrapped in a way that will have the plant very alive and ready to be planted. I can't say enough great things about their nursery, customer service and passion for their plants. A few weekends ago after traveling over an hour from Sandy Springs, GA to Nearly Native Nursery in Fayetteville, GA, we purchased a Chinese Fringe Tree, (Chinoanthus virginicus). We also purchased a Georgia Feverbark Tree (Pinckneya pubens), two Southern Gentleman hollies (Ilex vertisillata) plus a few other plants.
We received accurate and informative directions on where to plant and how to maintain the plants. So far, they are
thriving in our yard.
The nursery itself is worth the drive just to view the great variety of plants on site. Thank you for good service and great information about our purchases.

I was delighted to find out about Nearly Native Nursery through Dave's Garden noting that NNN had the baptisia australis I was trying to find. My phone and email contacts with NNN were most informative and very helpful. The 2 plants I received were very large and extremely well packaged. It's the end of the season here, so I cannot report on how they will develop -- but I trust they will do well, as long as I do my part to provide good planting, soil, light and care -- as it surely appears that NNN did all the right things on their end.

Nearly Native Nursery is an easy drive south of Atlanta, GA. Though McBride Rd may not show up in a navigation system, it does exist and is nearby closely named McBride Ln and McBride Cemetery Rd in Fayetteville, GA. I stayed longer than expected talking with Jim who was knowledgeable and gracious with his time. He helped me select several pollinator and wildlife plants (from a longer wish list) that were suited to my yard and interests. I had not been able to find any of these plants inside the beltline. NNN is a hidden gem.

I ordered 6 Viburnum acerifolium which arrived in excellent condition. The packaging was difficult to undo (as others have noted) but the plants were a good size and well rooted. While their website is awkward to use (no online ordering), they have plants not available elsewhere and I would order from them again if the need arises.

NNN was fantastic! They dealt with me the old fashioned way: They were courteous and patient and didn't treat my small order like it was any less important than a larger order. I'll go here first as I add more more natives to my garden & recommend them to others. Thumbs up!

Amazing selection of plants. It will take years for me to collect every native plant I want from their selection. Jim was knowledgeable about plant cultivars, selecting soil conditions conducive to successful transplanting and so much more.

Very happy to have found a great source for native plants! Jim spent all afternoon showing us around the nursery and gave great recommendations. It was wonderful to be able to see what our plants might look like in a few years and see the beautiful plantings they have. We bought several shrubs and all are doing well - we are planning to go back very soon and for many years to come! I also highly recommend the advanced plant search on their website.

Such a wonderful experience for native plant enthusiasts. Jim was so knowledgeable and helpful and the variety of Georgia native plants was without equal. This is the nursery I have been searching for. His show garden gave me many wonderful ideas for my own backyard design. I'll definitely be back in the fall!!!

I have been working on removing invasive plants and incorporating more natives into my yard since moving to a new home last spring. During my search for southeastern plants, I've ordered from 5 different nurseries online, and by far, my experience with Nearly Native has been the best. They remind you of the way people used to do business, back when more mom & pop places still existed. The customer service was wonderful. Debbi and Jim are both helpful and knowledgeable and give thoughtful responses to any questions. I have, to date, planted 12 plants from this nursery: an American Holly, a 5 foot Persimmon tree, 3 3 gallon Spruce Pines, a 1 gallon Bottle Brush Buckeye, a 1 gallon PawPaw, a 3 gallon American Beech, 2 Wax Myrtles, an Eastern Red Cedar, and a beautiful little 1 gallon Loblolly Pine. ALL of them are still living and thriving, after being in the ground for almost half a year in some cases. Since I ordered twice, they went out of their way to arrange for a friend of theirs who lived near me to bring me my trees, so that I wouldn't have to pay extra postage. I would recommend this company with confidence to anybody who wants to have healthy, beautiful natives surrounding their home.

I have been a native plant enthusiast for years but have struggled to find a reliable source for harder to find items. Finding Nearly Native Nurseries has been a great delight. Their catalog is amazing to review. Their collection is extensive. They are friendly and helpful on the phone. Best of all however is that the plants I received were even better than I imagined they would be. Packaged well, they were of size and condition that exceeded my expectations. Pricing was very good And shipping was fast. I will definitely be using them again and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a reliable, knowledgable source for natives.
My only regret is that I do not live a bit closer so I could visit in person. I hear it is quite an experience.

Found native plants here that were either too expensive or not available in local nurseries. No one knew about osmanthus americanus (devilswood) except Nearly Native. All arrived in great condition, ahead of schedule and are doing well. One problem-they suggested the devilwood was deer resistent but deer muched leaves within three days of planting. I've now begun regular repellant program so the plant should recover quickly. Plants from other suppliers have also been promised as "deer resistent" but they have been chewed to ground within hours, notably Joe Pye weed and bee's balm. Latter has come roaring back but no sign of Joe.
Nearly Naive people are very polite and positive both on the phone and in writing. I now have a question with them waiting for an answer but this must be an extremely busy time. I'm sure they will get to it soon. .

Today I visited Native Nursery to purchase 3 pink mulhly grass. I met Jim, who is extremely nice and very knowledgable!!! I WILL be returning! I also had the pleasure of meeting Jim's wife Debbie who is so polite! I can't wait to go back! If you haven't been to Nearly Native, I highly recommend going, you will not regret it!

I had purchased three Georgia aster plants at our local arboretum plant sale last fall, and this month I decided to add a few more in the same location. I found only two sources in Dave's search. This one was more expensive, but was within driving distance, so a friend and I decided to make a day trip yesterday. The visit was both fun and educational; Jim and Debi spent lots of time with us. The difference in price was more than made up for by the quality of the plants and the personal attention. A couple items were technically not in stock, but Jim made a special effort to personally go dig some up for me. The only problem was that I wound up buying too many other plants, and then my helper didn't show up for work today. My 75 year old back is a little sore from the driving and the digging, but my spirits are high. If you live within two or three hours drive, the trip is well worth the effort.

Jim was so helpful, from the moment I got lost trying to find McBride Road using navigation and Google Maps, Jim stayed on the phone with me giving me directions until I pulled into their driveway.. (make sure to use "Mc Bride", with a space if you use Google Maps). I arrived 15 minutes to their closing time of 6pm, but Jim stayed with me until 8pm, showing me around the entire place, teaching me everything he could about plants. You won't get that type of customer service anywhere nowdays. He definitely knows his stuff and I would recommend Nearly Native Nursery to everyone.

I ordered two sassafras trees. The trees arrived in great condition due to careful and secure packaging. The trees are beautiful and healthy. I could not be more pleased. These folks took time to visit with me on the telephone, answer my questions, and pick two nice trees to send to me. I highly recommend Nearly Native Nursery!

I purchased 2 vaccinium arboreum from Nearly Native, but also had a great time learning about all the plants they have on their property. I will definitely be back for more plants as I build my garden at my new house!

Nearly Native was extremely helpful and professional from beginning to end. I found them through the Dave's listing, in search of native plants for middle Georgia for a non-profit's community park. With me being a little more than a typical retail customer, and definitely not a landscape professional, Debi did a wonderful job filling my knowledge gaps, helping me finalize an order within budget. Their selection was more than I could hope for in trees, shrubs and perennials. When they did not carry some fruits we wanted for an orchard, Debi helped me find those, too.
Although they were technically closed, they arranged to meet us on our schedule.
We picked up our order using our own vehicle. They provided expert packing and loading. Plants were as described and expected. In a couple cases, root-bound plants were honestly described ahead of time, with a discount applied.
Having been in the ground a few weeks, all seem to be thriving.
I am working now with Nearly Native on an order for my personal use.
