Hudson Seed Library business model is totally impractical: seed packages, called "Art Packs" are totally uninformative about the seeds and focus only on the art, which is about the artist's expression and is not descriptive of the plant either. You have to buy the package to get any information inside. I goes they assume you'll rely on other companies information. Overpriced and uninformative.

I'm sorry you are confused about our unique business and creative seed packs. I will try to explain what we do a bit here, but the best thing to better understand what we do is to visit our website and blog.

We have different seed lines for different reasons. Our Art Packs feature artwork by wonderful artists. The goal of these packs is to celebrate the diversity of seeds and their stories. Each pack unfolds like a flower revealing the seeds within. Inside each pack is more info than you would get on a conventional seed pack including detailed planting info, a story about the seed, a bio of the artist, and info about the Seed Library. Additionally, our website has detailed info (that we spend a lot of time writing) about each variety based on our region. Our monthly email with all original content helps gardeners know when and how to start seeds, transplant, harvest, and save seeds from the varieties they grow.

Our business model is actually based on cooperation. I know this is unusual for this day and age and can be confusing if you don't read our About Us page or the Membership page, but we believe in sharing seeds and that's why our business is based on a library model.

We also have a full line of seeds in traditional seed packaging. These heirloom and open-pollinated varieties cost less than the Art Packs. It's even more affordable if you become a member of the Seed Library. Our most active seed saving members pay less for regional grown heirloom seeds than anywhere else.

I hope this helps clear things up for you. It is a struggle being a small regionally focused seed company in an era when multinational chemical corporations are in control of most of the world’s seed resources. We are doing our best to be responsible stewards and preserve heirloom and open-pollinated seeds for future generations.
