I mailed back, "...Thank you for getting back to me. The offer of a bonus plant like 'Flower City' was very nice, but, since the little 'Dwight D. Eisenhower' is looking so very unhealthy at this point, I would really just like a sturdy, gallon sized 'Dwight D. Eisenhower', like I had ordered. If you want what's left of the poor little one, I can certainly mail it to you: I have no interest in taking advantage of you. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank you for your time." After a bit of phone tag, a younger employee called me and informed me that there weren't any 'D.D.E.' of a decent size available, would I like a different one to replace it or a refund? Since I have limited garden space, I opted for a refund. Today, I received a call from the owner. He informed me that he "doesn't do refunds", that the tiny twig he sent me was somehow really lived in a gallon sized pot before shipping, and that he really didn't owe me anything, but would make a *special* exception and mail me a replacement, maybe this fall, maybe next year. As I had located a plant from another nursery by this time, I declined this offer. He also assured me that almost no one in the retail business has any kind of guarantee on their plants, which, apart from being untrue, is rather beside the point. I ordered one thing and received something other, something lesser, while he kept my full payment. I was offered a refund, then told no, they will not give my money back, and in a patronizing manner as well. This has been my worst ever mail order experience. |
