Positive | PamelaQ (22 reviews) | On Jun 15, 2009, PamelaQ Navarre, FL (Zone 8b) wrote: I ordered Rose Brilliant Veranda® and it arrived in a timely manner. I received a bareroot rose of excellent size that had new shoots and a very good root system. It was still moist wrapped loosely in plastic. There were no broken branches. So I was very pleased with this order. I would order roses again from 'Wayside Gardens'. |

They arrived promptly & in great condition. They were of very decent (bare root) size as well as cane size. I was unable to plant them within the recommended time frame so I left them in the plastic bag for about a week (longer than recommended). Then, I planted the shrub roses but could not plant the climbers yet, so they stayed in the bag another week... then in a tub of water an additional week or so... far longer than their recommendation. (I know, neglect to start! We just moved into a new house & lots of prep work was needed.) When I did get to them, they were vigorous and started leafing out immediately...even while in the tub of water! Same with the 4 shrub roses I planted too! It's a great start, even with a not-so-ideal start. I would give them a shot again. This was my 1st order with them. |

Positive | paulrichjr (6 reviews) | On Jun 7, 2009, paulrichjr Savannah, TN wrote: I ordered some Lo & Behold Blue Chip butterly bushes and they were packaged good and arrived in good shape. All but one appeared to be in very good shape and even that one wasn't bad....just not as good as the other 6. I am surprised by all of the negative comments here about this company because I have never had a problem with them. The only problem that I could see was the shipment was sent so that it sat in a warehouse over the weekend and even on Memorial Day so I was a little surprised that they didn't show any wear from this. I would have preferred that they delayed their shipping so that it wouldn't have had to sat there that long but they did fine so why complain. Wayside was the only company that I could find that was even reasonable for this new plant and I am overall happy with my order. |
Positive | thegladiator (6 reviews) | On May 20, 2009, thegladiator Pottstown, PA (Zone 6b) wrote: On 3/18/09 I ordered a Burgundy Iceberg Rose bush from them and on 3/31/09 the status said shipping soon. I don't recall when I got the bare root plant but the packing slip that was in the box says it was shipped on 3/23/09. I planted it and it has taken off and been growing nicely. I will try this company again if I find something else I like in the future. This was definitive a positive experience since the rose bush was a present for my wife. I would recommend this company to my friends and family. |

Last spring, I tried to get my C Card credited because an item I ordered was not available. It took several calls but finally got the credit. This spring I ordered one item only because I wanted to see how it would go. The plant arrived on schedule and in very good condition. Maybe they have cleaned up their act from what I have read on these posts. I hope so because they have a special collection of plants. |

This month (April, 2009) I ordered (through the website) a dozen plants- six lonicera and six viburnum. The e-mail correspondence I had with the company was very prompt and very satisfactory. My order was delivered in two weeks, and I am happy to report that all of the plants were very healthy and robust. After this recent experience, I plan to order from Wayside again, probably in a few weeks. |

Positive | flowermaiden (4 reviews) | On Jun 10, 2008, flowermaiden Saint Maries, ID wrote: I decided to give Wayside another chance this year, as I have ordered in the past with good results. Last year, I had some disappointing experiences, but these were partly my fault, and some of it couldn't be helped, as circumstances were beyond the control of both me and the company. This year, they sent me healthy groundcovers that appear to be doing well. Only one of the twelve creeping thymes I ordered looks like it might not make it, but the others are already up and going. All of the other groundcover is doing well, no die-off, and is perky. So, I am pleased with them again, and will continue to order. I'm surprised that they have gotten so many negative reviews. Generally, I've done all right with them. On Jun 10, 2008, Wayside Gardens responded with: " On Jul 15, 2008 10:54 AM, Wayside Gardens added: Dear flowermaiden, |

Even with allowances for the holiday my order remains dormant at "in stock and reserved". I'm not sure what that phrase means but am beginning to think it means "maybe never". On June 5th, 2008, QuoiMerrie changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: Received email confirmation on June 4 and box on June 5th. Am in shock at what I received. My first experience with "bareroot" delivery so I have nothing with which to compare. In fairness I will change to neutral. On June 17th, 2008, QuoiMerrie changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: Ok after a reasonable amount of time to recover from what "bareroot" means I find good growth on all my "bargain plants." Any problems ongoing must be my doing. I received 3 large sticks with roots and some mummifed root balls ( 3 night owl rose and 5 iris sibericus 'steve'. ) I still have reservations about the timeliness of my order and really dislike the computer server on this site...however I must be fair and change to positive. |

After reading all the unfavorable commentaries, was hesitant to order again. The plants look very good and anticipate no trouble, other than the deer, with these hostas growing well. |
Positive | ScottiB (1 review) | On May 31, 2008, ScottiB Hilton Head Island, SC wrote: I discovered this website AFTER I placed an order with Wayside Gardens. It raised all sorts of trepidation in me after reading all of the negative comments and saddened me, as well. Positive | OkGardner (1 review) | On May 31, 2008, OkGardner Talala, OK wrote: I ordered before I found this site. I found the site before I received my plants, so I was not expecting much. Positive | TeacherinVA (3 reviews) | On May 29, 2008, TeacherinVA Hurt, VA wrote: I placed an order on April 29, only to come home from work and find that my well pump had burned out. I emailed them first thing the next morning to cancel my order, and I received a reply within hours confirming that my purchase had indeed been canceled. My credit card was never charged, and I was happy. I am disheartened to see all these negative comments, as I had been quite impressed with the website. I suppose I will look elsewhere for my jasmine and clematis. |
Positive | milesf1 (4 reviews) | On May 22, 2008, milesf1 Woodstock Valley, CT (Zone 5b) wrote: I ordered from these guys before I read any reviews or I might not have...overall though I'm pretty happy. I got a few Knock-outs, some Irises and a few other things. All showed up pretty health last season. Everything except one Knock out made it. The rainbow one actually looked dead when I got it last fall. I called and they said to plant it and wait to see. I was dead as I expected. I was not too happy about loosing 6 months of growth, but when I called them, they promptly sent a new one that was 3 times the size and blooming. Even though it was the 40s in my zone 5b garden it is still blooming 4 weeks after planting and getting more buds. So no complaints here. |

Positive | carygal (1 review) | On May 18, 2008, carygal Holly Springs, NC (Zone 7b) wrote: I too have mixed feelings about Wayside Gardens and agree that communication and organization seem to be their biggest problems. I've ordered many plants from them over the years and in most cases the plants are strong and healthy and flourish. I have some absolutely gorgeous climbing roses that I ordered from them 2 years ago. I don't like it when they substitute plants -- especially the few times they substituted a less expensive plant for the more expensive "new" version boldly featured in their catalog without making a credit adjustment. Their web site is great but you can't check on past orders -- the page always errors out. They could do a match better job just letting the customer know what's is going on with their order. I also don't like that they now charge your credit card when you place your order instead of closer to shipping time. I didn't order anything from them this spring -- the first time in about 15 years. On April 1st, 2009, carygal changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: I gave Wayside another chance and am happy to report that customer service was excellent and healthy plants arrived as promised. The problems I had with their web site are fixed and they didn't charge my credit card until the plants were shipped. |
Positive | TTM (3 reviews) | On May 15, 2008, TTM Wichita, KS wrote: I ordered PG hydrangea tree form, sorbaria sem 4" pot, 2 knockout rose 1-gallon pots, siberian iris bareroots, 3" pot echinacea,3" pot helleborus, and 1-gallon pot halo hydrangea. Everything came very well packed. Plants were larger than expected and looked healthy. My PG hydrangea took off right away--am excited how it will turn out in a few years. Prices for items are very reasonable, especially if you look for their specials and there are usually 10% off coupons you can use. Shipping is not cheap, but it seems like they spend a lot on packing. People should give them a chance. |
Positive | libraryman (5 reviews) | On May 14, 2008, libraryman Maryville, TN wrote: I made my order with Wayside Gardens before finding this website and reading these reviews. After reading all of the negative reviews, I was ready to go to battle. I ordered 4 coreopsis, 4 ceratostigma plumbaginoides, and 4 sisyrinchium (blue-eyed grass). All plants arrived together when promised and all plants look great! I don't know if I'm just lucky, or just got plants that are in season and healthy. The coreopsis are a variety that I have not been able to find locally so I'm very happy with my purchase. After reading all of these negative reviews, I will probably take a "wait and see" attitude before ordering from Wayside Garden again to see whether the reviews improve for this company. Yet, I can say that this first experience for me was good. |

Positive | Oksana102888 (1 review) | On Apr 16, 2008, Oksana102888 Arlington, MA wrote: I have ordered 3 plants last fall and, except for "Knockout rose", two other did not survive the winter, which was very upsetting. "Citronella" arrived very thin and anemic and didn't make it. About 10 days ago I emailed to Wayside gardens telling them this and without a word and no additional questions asked - I received a replacement yesterday. Small but healthy looking plant. Thanks, I was prepared for a lengthy back-and-fourth communication and you pleasantly surprised me. I definetely will order again from your company. |
Positive | 3margaritas (2 reviews) | On Apr 15, 2008, 3margaritas San Pablo, CA wrote: I ordered 3 "Becky" shasta daisies. The shipping was very slow, but the plants arrived in good condition. The size of the plants was a little small, but they were healthy, moist, and well packaged (one was a little yellow on the bottom, but not anything serious that couldn't be corrected with proper planting and care). They have their first blooms after about 4 weeks in the ground and are thriving. I would have to agree that the cost of the plants was too high for what I received. Would I use them again? I probably would for plants that are hard to find elsewhere. On May 29th, 2008, 3margaritas changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: I'm frustrated with Wayside Gardens. I ordered 3 Veronica Van Hees. They arrived - 3 little twigs. I put them in the ground and they failed. No matter what i did I could not get them to leaf out. I contacted Wayside Gardens and they said the plants were shipped dormant and to do a scratch test. I did the test a couple weeks later and they were dry, maybe a teensy bit of green, but clearly dying or near death. I contacted them again and was told I would receive a replacement shipment. I called and asked for a refund. They told me they would refund my money but it would take about 30 days because they only have one refund person. I don't like that they didn't inform me they would be shipped dormant, or at least I didn't see it anywhere when I ordered, and the twigs were truly tiny. Disappointed! |
