Comments regarding Bluestone Perennials

sent my first order this fall, plants were green, healthy, well packaged when received. planted within 3 days they seem to have started well. I have recommended them to friends and passed my extra catalog around locally. I expect to order again in the spring. having gardened for 50 plus years I'm careful about zone recommendations and try to select plants that will survive in my area, I thought their descriptions were pretty close to my actual gardening experience.

I've placed several orders with Bluestone this year to fill my new flower garden in my backyard. Most of the plants they've sent have been doing great. A few died, mainly because of underdeveloped roots. I called about these and they didn't hassle me and will be sending them in the spring.
All in all, they are the best mail-order nursery I've dealt with.

I ordered some bulbs on Saturday via Internet. I received a confirmation email advising my order would be processed on Monday. By Tuesday, my bulbs had been delivered! Wow! Great, fast shipping.
The custom search feature on the website is very helpful as well - you can search for a plant by the features you want, so if you want a plant with pink flowers that is less than 18 inches tall and blooms in mid-summer, and can be planted in clay in full sun, you can get a list of the plants they carry that will meet your criteria.

I ordered three perennial collections from Bluestone: shade, sun, and butterfly/bird collections. All arrived healthy and seem to be very happy in their fall beds.
I also received free shipping on this large order because I had returned my previous smaller order's packaging to Bluestone for recycling.
I will order from them again.

In 2006, I inherited my parent's home in Minnesota and was looking forward to planting my garden this spring. I spent hours looking over the various catalogs that came and ordered from about five different mail order houses. Sure wish I had known about Dave's Gardens and the reviews before I placed my various orders. I was so disappointed in most of the vendors that I almost gave up ever ordering mail order for plants. That is, until I ordered from Bluestone! The plants were so fresh and so healthy that they looked better than if I had purchased them locally. After I planted them (I got 3 Elfin Thyme plants), they established almost immediately and even though they were supposed to bloom early in the spring (and I got mine in June or July), they still bloomed. They have remained green and vibrant all summer (and we were in the second year of a drought here in Minnesota). We are now heading into winter and these plants remain the most successful plants I ordered last year... already starting to spread. I will be placing most of my next year's order with Bluestone Perennials.

I have been buying shrubs from Bluestone for few years and have been very happy w/ my experience. The shrubs are small but establish very quickly. If there's ever an issue, their customer service is superb. My order this spring was the best yet. Daphne Carol Mackie has done just great. It flowered and then put on lots of growth in the summer - the varigated leaves are just cheerful. I now prefer to browse their catalog in the comfort of my home rather than going to different nurseries to track down the plant I want.

Adding to Bluestone's many, well deserved accolades: I love this company! I first ordered form them 8 years ago, and since then I've placed 5 or 6 orders. The most recent order arrived 2 days ago: beautiful sea hollies, heucheras, penstemons, and loads of allium bulbs. The were perfectly packaged, and came out of the box fresh as a daisy (so to speak). I'll plant them in 4 more days, when the beds are prepared. These plants are very small when you get them--they come in the little 6 plastic six packs. But the first garden I planted (8 years ago!) with Bluestone perennials was lush and mature looking within 2 years. The plants came well rooted, like my previous purchases, so I expect them to take off just as well, after settling in over the winter.
Bluestone's prices are great, and you can recycle the shipping materials by returning them and getting a discount off the shipping on your next order. All in all, great company, great plants.

I ordered 6 Geranium Johnson's Blue plants on 9/17 from the website and they arrived on Friday, 9/21. Plants are in good condition and ready for planting. This was my first order in a few years. I remember from my earlier purchases how good their service and plants were. Nothing has changed. No hassle, excellent service and value. in addition, I believe, their FAQs is one of the best. It answered all of my questions.

I had never ordered plants online before, but wanted to try. I read a lot of positive things about Bluestone on this site, and chose to order from them.

I was very pleased with the condition and size of the plants I received (hostas and astilbes). They were at my door within a week of ordering them, and all in good shape. I have since placed another order with them! I would highly recommend this company.

I give them a 8-9 on a scale of ten. This fall I ordered Thrift, Sedum & Poppies, the Thrift & Sedum were good, the poppies were poor quality . So I called them and they were more than happy to send replacements - which look like I expected them to look.

I received my first order from Bluestone today. All plants arrived in excellent condition. The plants were also slightly larger than I expected. Prior to receiving my order I called a couple of times to ask questions and add to the online order. They had/have outstanding customer service both before, during, and after my transaction was completed. It is no wonder that they have such a high rating and they have more than substantiated their reputation with me. I will be a customer with this company for a long time to come. Highly recommended.

I just received my first order from Bluestone Perennials. The plants are wonderful and larger than expected. The condition was perfect. I have ordered many plants on-line and these are definitely the best. My favorite used to be High Country Gardens, but I ordered from Bluestone based on comments posted on this site and am very glad I did. They will get many orders from me.

Ordered one plant as a test. It arrived 8/27/07 or so in great shape, and was healthy. Size was larger than anticipated, as some of the posts stated small plants. I am very happy with the plant, it is a great addition to my garden. I would order again. Packing peanuts are not the easiest to deal with, but it seems to protect the plants. Would rather deal with peanuts, than a ruined plant.

My first order from Bluestone arrived today and I am very happy. I ordered three hostas, 2 wide brim and 1 sum and substance and they arrived happy and healthy. A little larger than what I expected. Considering the warm temperatures we are having here in Northern CA I would say the condition the plants arrived in was outstanding! Furthermore the plants were not scheduled to be sent out until late September but Bluestone kindly honored my request to send them out a few days after I ordered. Good communication. I would buy from again.

I placed an order with Bluestone and a couple weeks later placed another order for a couple more items fulling expecting to pay twice for shipping since I placed them weeks apart. They actually sent me an e-mail telling me they were combining the orders. Amazing, just based on this fact I'd use them again(and again and again.....).

I have ordered from Bluestone Perennials several times in the spring over the past couple of years and my experiences have all been positive. All of my plants have arrived exactly when I requested them, been well packed, and in healthy shape, and most all have done well after planting. The one or two times when a plant did die soon after planting, Bluestone replaced them promptly at no charge, no questions asked.

This is a great company that I've dealt wither for years, trouble-free all the time!

I love this company! I have ordered from them the last 4 years and have always had a good experience. The plants are in great shape and arrive when they are supposed to. The very few times I had a problem, customer service was always courteous and helpful and the problem was resolved quickly. I would recommend this company to anyone.

I have purchased perennials from this company for over 20 years. This year I ordered three collections of White Guara to plant in front of a red shed. When it bloomed it was a pink plant I have yet to identify. I emailed them and got a fast reply that they will reship in the fall with the correct plants. This is the first time I have ever had an incorrect order or one that did not thrive. I will continue to use this company.

I've purchased perennials from Bluestone in the past, and know their plants are small.
This past spring I bought one of their perennial garden selections, and was mostly happy with what I received.

I also ordered a few shrubs from the half price sale, and I was disappointed with what I received. They were little more than cuttings. Out of four plants, one looks good, the other three look like they may not survive.

I'll happily order perennials from them, but will look elsewhere for my shrubs.

I was ordering plants online from at least 9 different companies so far. Bluestone is one of my very favorite. I placed 3 orders with them, total about three dozen plants. Most amazingly, every one of them lived! This is despite our heavy clay soil, rabbits, dog and etc. I didn’t have such good results with anybody else. I’ve ordered plants last fall, which arrived healthy and larger than expected. I was somewhat disappointed when my spring order arrived, because some of plants were very small, but I guess they were just breaking dormancy because they grew very fast, and some were about a foot across in just a couple of weeks. I couldn’t resist it and ordered again from their end-of-season sale. I ordered their larger-pot-plants, including irises, daylily and coreopsis. Prices were unbelievably low, but plants were large and healthy. Now I have large and blooming coreopsis, and six very nice irises growing. Daylily was sent potted with two fans, and it was exceptionally healthy. I didn’t expect it to bloom this year, but it has two scrapes and blooming. The price was one tenth of what it costs elsewhere. I wish I bought more daylilies. The only time I had a problem with Bluestone plant, I sent them email, and they replied (and apologized!) in a few days, and sent me a replacement within a week. The replacement plant was fine, and it is doing great. It is true that their packaging could be better, but it worked out ok so far. They send free-shipping coupon, if you send their packing peanuts back. Their selection of plants is hard to beat. Highly recommended.

ordered 15 plants from Bluestone in January and they arrived a little later for planting than I liked but they were exceptionally healthy and carefully packed. They all are thriving and I was so happy with them, I placed a second order and those plants came right away and are also doing great!

I had a really great experience with the people at Bluestone. My order was processed and shipped within 24 hours and arrived the next day. The plants arrived very healthy and perky with hardly any wilting. I kept them well watered, and they were very patient until I had time to get them into the ground. I only lost one or two out of more than a dozen that I got into the ground, but getting stomped on by a clumsy golden retriever would do that to anyone.

There was a little bit of a mix-up with my order, and I ended up receiving someone else's order in addition to my own. I called right away, and they got things figured out while I was on the phone. I ended up with about twice as many plants at no additional charge.

I will order from them again and recommend them to anyone. The ladies I talked to on the phone were super helpful and friendly, too.

I ordered 2 of their "collections", one for a shade garden and the other a border garden. The shade garden is doing nicely, however some of the plants from the border collection did not make it. I e-mailed the company, and they are sending replacement plants in the Fall, no arguments, no questions, no problem! Nice plants, wonderful costumer service, reasonable prices, great company.

Couldn't resist - placed an order during their 50% off sale. I'd heard so many good things about them - figured 50% off was as good a time as any to "try them out." God Bless them, even during this mad rush sale, they were able to do an "add on" for me (how could I pass up a cold hardy Gardenia?)!! Received healthy potted (no bare roots here) - WELL PACKED plants in a timely fashion!! Plants are all in the ground and doing well!!

I caught the end of the season half price sale. I wanted to try some Lobella in a shady area, and the six I received are already 18 inches high! Very pleased with what I received and how the plants are doing.

The plants are very small when they arrive. They do well though and go on to flourish. There's a lot of time between ordering and when the plants arrive. Thats frustrating for someone in my zone.

I'm a first time Bluestone customer, but I already know I will be one of those customer-for-life types (as long as they keep doing what they are doing...) First off, they have a great website. Second, they do a print catalog. I'm sorry, but I like to have a visual reference that is not just a computer screen. Many companies (no, make that most) don't do a print catalog. So you're confined to doing your plant research online... ok most times, but sometimes you just want to sack out on the couch, or in bed, or at the dinner table, or wherever, and just READ something... ie a Nursery Catalog... So THANK YOU, Bluestone, for taking the time and expense and trouble to do a catalog! Third, (and this is obviously the most important), ALL the perennials I received were healthy, well-rooted and ready to go. All are doing great and have put out lots of growth in a very short time. The 3 packs are obviously on the small side, but these little cell thingies have a ton of root mass--actually MORE than certain expensive perennials I have bought this year elsewhere... The bottom line is: once the plants are in the ground, what do they do? Well, if you take your gardening seriously, you bother to find out what type of soil, sun exposure, etc, your plant is going to need, and then you plant accordingly. I guarantee that if you plant these Bluestone babies the way they are meant to be planted, and follow up with appropriate care and watering, then they will perform beautifully. Some people complain they can go get a gallon perennial at Home Depot for $5.99. Well, I do that too. But to get all different wonderful varieties of plants, with color and foliage variations, and hard to find genuses that you will never EVER find locally (let alone at a Home Improvement center) then a place like Bluestone is an incredibly valuable resource...

I 'm raising a lot of unusual perennials and I thought I was done already, 'til I found out about the half price sale on this nursery... what the heck, why not try this company too? Anyway, I did order sombrero mum,natascha phlox, and wirral pride daisy, during the memorial day sale. I received all healthy plants. It's a month now and all of them are doing well. The customer service is also superb, very helpful and accommodating. Thank you!

I had never ordered from Bluestone, but thought what the heck with the 1/2 price sale going on.I ordered 43 plants and all were more than I could have ever expected from a mail order nursery. The healthiness and size of the plants received was bigger and better than some that you can get at the local nurseries around here. The price's were an absolute steal as well.The prompt shipping and excellent packaging was another plus. They have a new customer for life.I have not lost any of the plants I received from them.

This year I decided to splurge and ordered plants from several mail-order nurseries to evaluate which ones I liked best. I ordered from seven companies listed in the Garden Watchog 30 as well as a few not included in the 30.
Bluestone Perennials won hands down! I expected the plants to be small from having read previous posts but I was very pleased with their vigor and the price was great since I ordered during their 50% sale!

They did not send "left-over" plants as was obvious another company had who also promoted their plants on sale. The packaging was excellent and the plants arrived looking healthy and ready to grow.

When I informed Bluestone that they had mistakenly sent Boltonia instead of the Calamintha I ordered (the pots were labeled correctly but contained the wrong plants) they immediately responded very plesantly and told me that they would ship the Calamintha at the end of the summer when they were available again.

The website is very user friendly and the "saved cart" feature is very helpful in preparing an order.

All in all a very positive experience. Thank you, Bluestone!

What can I say? I love Bluestone Perennials and they are my first choice perennial store. I live in Alaska and my plants have always arrived wonderfully packed and healthy.

Have ordered many times. Customer service is excellent. They always ship during the week I request. Their plants are on the small side but are healthy and take off quickly. I would recommend them highly to anyone.

Although I had ordered a rather large order from Bluestone earlier in the season (and was very happy with the plants I received), I just happened to be looking on their web page during their annual sale. I found some hosta plants on sale for half price. I ordered three of two different varieties. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised at the size and the health of the plants I received. They are all growing and doing very well.
I definitely will buy from this company again.

I would recommend this company to anyone. I ordered about thirty plants a few weeks ago when they were having their half price sale. Bluestone Perennials provided exceptional customer service- sent several e-mails letting me know when they would be shipping my plants, had my order shipped out within 2-3 days from time I placed order.
The plants I received all arrived looking healthy and not one has died; a few of the plants were actually just planted this weekend, as my wife and I have been trying to decide were to plant everything- and still everything looks healthy.
If you are looking for a top notch company that really cares about the quality of plants they provide Bluestone Perennials is one of the best I have found.

I couldn't resist the sale prices. The 3 packs of perrenials arrived rather small but healthy, they will do fine with a little care on my side as expected. The one quart shrubs were excellent.
